I remember smoking American Spirits Perique cigarettes at Starbucks listening to this on my mp3 player during Xmas time cuz at the time I didn't have a smartphone yet.... A very good song, probably the sister song to "Little Empty Boat"....

I think the lyrics may have been just too personal for him to put it on the album. A few people state that it is far superior to a few songs on the album which I agree with- though obviously this is subjective, it's art. Glad he put it out there...

Superb album. Can't quite put it into a single word or even a single sentence, but there is just something entirely different in listening to Nick and his music, over other bands. The style, the lyrics, the overall soundscape - is rarely found with other bands / songwriters. Every song sounds so personal to him and the sheer passion he puts into his songs is amazing. There will be a special place in music set aside for Nick if he ever retires.

This song gets me to my soul. It is so hard to feel happy for someone as they are doing so well without you but you are not doing well at all, your life is falling apart in ways that go beyond your pain of missing and loving them and all you want to do is ring them up and have them say it is all ok but you can't. They are happy and have a life with someone else, that someone else has the life you should have and the family you never could give the one you love. Life fucking sucks. As someone who is young and has a shitty medical condition that shortens my life, do not push people away thinking you are doing them a favor saving them from the burden of you. Do not take their choice away to love you and stay because you are afraid they will leave you anyway or be hurt by the inevitable death. I wouldn't change anything about my life or my illnesses if I could just go back and let him love me.

It sounds more like a song from The Lyre of Orpheus, than a B-side of Boatman. Beautiful, anyway.
