Beautiful boat, love the biplane junk rig! I plan on a biplane wingsail rig that will operate like a junk, with wharram style hulls, for my future boat build. I figure the wingsails will let me sail a little closer to the wind than a standard flat junk. I am curious about your experience with the biplane setup, at what range of angles does the leeward sail get blanketed?

Great boat. Perfect for your use. I would like to put a similar rig on my 8.5m catamaran one day. Can you give a bit more technical detail. Masts, are they home made. What diameter and thickness? Sailcloth, what exactly is the product. Is it holding up well. I have some experience of junk sails, surprised not to see some heavy reinforcement at leach and luff. I think if you can make 6knts, your leeway should not be too bad, dagger boards not required. Building a bit of camber / shape into the sails will help. Lots of information in the Junk Rig Association. My only criticism is that huge Bimini , surely that has a very detrimental windage.

I've often wondered about putting a mast in each hull, instead of tandem in the center of a cat like this. How do you find the sailing with this setup? Junk rigs are fantastic, of course. I'm just interested if you find it better, worse, or kind of the same as a traditionally oriented rig? Hope you share more. Vahi is beautiful.

I would like to see a yurt on a Wharram that had a roof that did not have a steep pitch. Yurts are hurricane proof. A Lexon door in the front and aft with a clear vinyl panel near the top of the walls would help you see 360 degrees. The yurt could be large enough to enclose the main hatches that go into the hulls. Yurts are very light in weight. One day I will see this.

I was looking at a junk rigged cutter. Having stay sails might help going up wind. But I love the ease of handling the junk sails. Please add more videos.

Love the boat and love the Wharram style of boat building which basically came from the Polynesians and James Wharram continued the progress on building the boats and making them very popular and safe in the boating world. There are even professional boat builders who are building Wharram Boats. I hope that you continue to make the videos for RUclips as I don’t use Instagram as my Instagram account and my FaceBook was hacked on two different occasions after using Instagram and I had a very secure password.
