Wave the Ocean
Wave the Ocean is a traditional American melody with lyrics by Tim O'Brien. This arrangement is meant to reflect back on the sounds of the Appalachian mountains of Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia, but also incorporate the instruments and voices of BYU Mountain Strings in their most recent configuration. The film footage shows Mountain Strings in various locations in Budapest, Hungary, and Stražnice, Czech Republic, where they traveled in June, 2023. Mountain Strings accompanies the BYU International Folk Dance ensemble at international festivals. Mountain Strings enjoys filming their music on location when the opportunity arises.     I love this version and I know many. I always feel like BYU groups have an interesting approach to Celtic-based music-it’s like anglicizing by a different route? There’s a great BYU a cappella version of Danny Boy that has a similar approach. It feels less gritty and folksy than an Irish or Appalachian version but the orchestration is more precise.
