Galaxy on Trail
Австралия
Добавлен 15 янв 2018
I was introduced to the outdoors early in my life by my father who is a keen Hunter & flyfisher back in New Zealand. I moved to Australia in my early 20s began exploring this beautiful country and have not stopped. Nature has always inspired me to create, back in the day I'd shoot my adventures on super8mm film, and show them to my friends in our lounge with a soundtrack and a few drinks.
I work as a video editor professionally and this channel was born from the combination of my love of the outdoors and video editing. My goal for this channel is to inspire you to get out and explore the wild places of this beautiful world so come along with me and my friends on adventures, traveling light, bike-packing, hiking, canoeing & a bit of fishing here and there.

Victoria Divide 2022 Day 4, Route adjustment to Great Victorian Rail Trail
Your mates wearing the loose fitting light coloured shirts would be more comfortable on warm/hot days
… Quick question: suspension fork or no suspension fork? I have carbon fork and can put on a 2.8” tyre … maybe 3inch. I’m thinking of doing it this year thanks to your great series of videos, cheers & thanks in advance
Hmm.. was pretty chunky.. but doable with a carbon fork.. suspension is all about comfort for me.. some big rough descents.
Love the vids mate. Any chance I could grab your gpx file for this ride?
Hmm not sure about sharing the gpx, it was part of the event created by Dan hunt. It’s all his hard work planning.
Hello!!! Thank you for posting these videos! They really are great. I have a question about gear, specifically, how you carried your drone around. I just purchased myself a new one, and have never taken it backpacking before. Lots to think about with waterproofing, shock resisting etc. Any thoughts? Cheers - Paul
Thanks for watching, I carried it in a backpack, not the greatest when cycling, but was the only way I could get it all in.
Awesome bro
The Bellarine is awesome!!
Well done boys, awesome ride, loved your videos, cheers, Jon An Aussie in Philippines
Thanks so much for watching!
Hey mate, loving the series. What bars are you using on this rig?
Thanks mate.. they are soma dream riser bars, I added on some bar ends in the middle and wrapped them.
Very cool. On my bucket list :)
Such a great walk!! get planning!
Great video. What's the gpx? Any water tanks on the route?
I’d suggest entering the event proper and ride with the event.. check the hunt 1000 website for details. Each year it’s a different route.
@@galaxyontrail this is the Grampians.
@@DeniM-cv2ro ha ha sorry then yes!! there was water about when we rode.. but it would depend on the year.. ridewithgps.com/routes/38116277 water sources at 61km, 78km, 95km, smiths mill, 134, borough huts, halls gap, around 200km, 208km. any of these could be dry and all require filtering.
Is this 2022 or 2023
This was December 2022
Looks like a great ride, but might be a little tough on my Gravel bike.
Yes it’s lots of rough terrain.
I enjoyed watching this series. Thank you for taking the time to make these video's.
Thanks for watching, such a great walk!
Great series, really enjoyed it. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it mate.
Loved this series. Thanks for putting it together mate.
Thanks for watching!
Epic Journey mate! Congrats on finishing strong and creating this series.
Thanks for watching!
Is this a route you made yourselves or an official bike packing route? Looking to get into bike packing, I all ready pack saddle with my horses but thought bike packing would give me a few more options to get out there more often to adventure!
It’s an official route
Planning is half the fun of bike packing. I’ve made my own route and ridden ones others have made, just get out there!
Really enjoying the series, looks like it's tough work for an old fela and, yes I am an older fela.
It was tough.. but it’s all about giving yourself enough time.. and training for it. Thanks for watching!
Was a pleasure riding with you mate and great to relive the memories through your videos
Cheers Dan, right back at ya mate, thanks for watching!
Hey @galaxyontrail I'd really like to see a video of how you achieve your shots & filming of your rides. When u use onboard, when you fire up the drone if you use a tripod etc.
Sure will mate!
Awesome mate, wish i was 30 yrs younger!
Thanks for watching Jeff, glad you enjoyed coming along for the ride.
Awesome little vid, what creek were you running there. im about to buy a packraft for the bike, Really like your content, Both bikepacker (fatbike) and fishing
Hey mate, it’s up near Myrtleford, thanks for watching. What pack raft are you looking at?
I loved every video. Inspiring to say the least. Thanks for sharing
Thanks mate, I really appreciate your comment.
Enjoying the vids. Can't quite work out how you do the crushing hill after hill and come back the next day. With so little complaints. When do you start to hurt?
Thanks Vince, I’ve done enough trips to know how hard to push so I can go on day after day, what works for me with water, nutrition.. take breaks, walk to use different muscle groups.. big one is the hunt is not a race.. and focus on enjoying the moments of the journey.
Well done mate. To film as well as doing the hard yards was super impressive.
Cheers mate.. I enjoy filming, so it’s one of the things that helps me get through the tough stuff. Thanks for watching.
Great footage
Thanks mate, was an epic day.. so lucky.
How much training did you do?
Great question, I'll aim to answer this in more detail in the next video, but the short answer is 3-6 months.
Thanks, this was great to watch
Cheers Ian, glad you enjoyed it!
This looks great. I checked the map. Walhalla seems to be a little of the main Hunt 1000 track. At least according to the one web site I checked.
Hi Ian, the route is not set in stone, its Dan changes it up depending on conditions etc. Here is the route we rode for your reference. ridewithgps.com/routes/41361508?privacy_code=oHlC6EU446mJn5cL%C2%A0
Loved watching all your videos for the commentary and the scenery . What an achievement for you and the rest of the Hunt cyclists.....
Thanks so much Fiona, I'm happy you enjoyed watching & I appreciate your support.
Really enjoyed this video series! Thanks for making. Awesome effort also.👍
Cheers Francis was a big ride!! Thanks for watching.
Awesome effort and video series. Really enjoyed the videos. Thanks for making!.👍
Thanks for watching Francis!
Really injoyed this series. Cant wait to see what you create next.
Cheers mate, thanks for watching. Got any of your own in the works?
@@galaxyontrail I've got a couple ideas that require planning. One including a ride and fish somewhere in the high country. Planning on doing the hunt 1000 proubly not this year as we have baby number 2 due early October. But I'm really keen on the Sydney to summit that Dan has created. Outside of riding planning on a lot of snowboarding this season. Wouldn't mind hiking up Mt bogong in the snow. If you are interested Can keep you in the loop. Would be great to go on another adventure together.
@@dylanpearson9465 Keen as for a flyfishing ride somewhere mate & Bogong too. Keep me in the loop!!
@@galaxyontrail shore thing mate. Definitely will. Will talk soon.
Awesome series mate. Lived every pedal stroke of it. You have me sold on this. I'll have to pick your brain on routes, camping etc.
I think its running in Nov/dec again, I suggest doing it officially to get the full experience. Likely there will be some tweaks to the route, but happy to chat mate.
Great series. Loved it.
Cheers Adam, glad you enjoyed it.
@@galaxyontrail thanks for all your hard work! I’m planning on doing the hunt in 2024. Thanks for the motivation!
Thanks for bringing us along!
Any time mate
I love how you put the Centenary Trail in at the end. It's my local off road commute!
Was such a nice ride into Canberra, you are lucky to have great trails to commute on🤙
@@galaxyontrail totally. My mates and I count our lucky stars all the time. I am dead set a km as the crow flies from the top of the trail into Isaac's Ridge (at the top of the tar that you had in the video) I have a cool bit of ST that goes around Mt Wanniassa from the top of my street. So good.
Followed along the entire time. Epic Trip, congrats!
Thanks for watching!
We’ll told. What great journey… bring on December 23 🎉
Thanks mate, sounds like you are doing this years hunt, good luck with your preparations!
Love that last drone shot!
Thanks Mate, really sums up the spirit of the hunt.

Will be sad to see this series end. Been on edge for each episode to come out. Seeing the fly fisher reminded me of how i would love to incorporate both bikepacking and fishing into a trip. Would be so good.
Yea sorry Dylan, I’ve had a bit going on.. we rode past some nice water, I’d be keen as to do something like that too!
My favourite day of the trip!
Nice once you know you have broken the back of most of the hard work, and have time to enjoy, was a good day on the bike! Thanks for watching.
This is such a cool thing to do. Huge appreciation as I think I would struggle so much to do this!
Thanks James, it's by far the most enjoyable 1000km I've spent on my bike. There is a 500 option too.
Awesome, waiting for the 2023 announcement, planning on joining from the states!
Amazing Chris!! You'll get to see the best parts of victoria!
Great video mate. Enjoying following along
Thanks for watching Ed!
What an awesome trip...any advice you would give to others doing to it for the first time? Gear you could not live without/gear you would leave at home?
Ok I’m getting the picture, a gear video is the next one I’ll be filming. Advice is to start with some 2-3 day trips, get the legs into working all day and backing it up the next. I couldn’t of made it without spare sealant, gaffa tape and your own way of getting through tough days with a smile on the face. For me that’s being able to stop and soak in the beauty of where you are even if your pushing your bike up a 30deg hill in the full sun.. it’s always nice to share your journey with a few mates too. Thanks for watching!
@@galaxyontrail Gear video would be great!
Adaminaby is an awesome spot. I spent a couple of weeks over Xmas of 2018. The ride up to the hut was much quieter for me. It was on a Sunday. The Boundary Trail chewed me up and spat me out. The bakery is great.
Was nice to have a shortish day and at this point in the trip, there are Bikepackers everywhere in town. The great community feel of the hunt really getting into full swing!
May have missed it. Have you done a gear load or review for this trip?
No I haven’t done a gear video, it’s in the works. Basically my setup was the same as my vic divide trip. Link at the end of the video.
It's a shame that the route didn't take you along Long Plain and into Brindabella. Much better than the way you went.
As I understand it, with all the rain we had in the month before, any other way out was through a river up to your neck.. so we had to skip the whole Jagungal Wilderness. Always good to have a reason to go back another time thou. Thanks for watching!
@@galaxyontrail yah, we had lots of rain and flooding in November last year. I reckon you would have been right heading Long Plain/Broken Cart Trail/Brindabella Road into Canberra. It was never closed and there is only one shallow creek crossing that way. The Goodradigbee and Murrumbidgee rivers both have bridges and didn't close in that time. Anyhoo, loving the series.
Love these videos mate. Sad that it’s coming to an end soon! We should all probably start talking about another mission soon!
Yes another trip in the calendar would be awesome!!
