@@JP-ll4yk My Brother in Christ…no one asked them to aspire to other bands styles, I never attributed them to “adjusting to the SWAC” and the fact that the highest score I gave them was on the March they opened with should showcase that I have no problem with their style or playing marches. It was mostly about cleanliness (lack thereof) and matching the energy of the battle

@@MarcusJY it’s less so about “fitting in” which I see what you’re saying, I don’t want that and I appreciate the diversity in style or music. I also think theres an art to playing the flow of the battle, yin to a yang, one upping a song, slowing down pace, etc. it all has its place, you just need to pull off the right order

I think that’s a fair assessment, definitely not perfect on either sides. The reason why I think I would say I still judged based on their separate styles, is cuz I didn’t really tax FAM for playing a Gospel song, It was moreso about the timing within the battle, if they had played their round 6 selection in round 3 after both bands struggled and momentum & energy was dull, I probably would’ve given it a 2. The style isn’t a problem trust me, I’m coo with the selection, just execute it and play the turns well yk

@@Cr4nkCentralthat’s a healthy conversation to have. a band has a piece that they worked really hard on. They want to display it regardless of what the other band throws before or after them. They stick to their guns 🤷🏾but ridiculed because it didn’t “fit” or wasn’t the viewers preference. If they had of played it first!? Eh….. ASU still would have played what they played and I can assume it would have still been a hit on FAMU for playing a gospel song. It could go either way but sometimes our high expectations or hidden rules kills the actually enjoyment of just watching the battle. IMO

@@sholloway3579 that’s true, and I’ll be mindful of it going forward cuz trust me, I did the same in summer band, I like to judge bands by what they do best/their style vs another. But I’m also a believer that these battles are mostly a game of tic tac toe, even playing field for most regardless of style

Idk about a disaster💀was still really enjoyable but I do agree with the BCU statement, I think some years BCU’s book just gets stale as the season goes but hopefully both bands continue to get more battle tested

@@Diggitydammit I see, and even moreso I don’t even think there’s a real distinction inherent to a SWAC, MEAC, or SIAC band. I just put the question in (one of them, because there are two thumbnails for this video) the thumbnail because IK it’s been a convo in the community. But also, your overgeneralization of the SWAC is just…kinda wrong imo. Many schools in the SWAC begin Zero quarters or warm ups with Marches and implement dynamic constrast in many ballads and rap tunes. And especially post -2016 baselines have become busier and demanded more articulate and stylized sections. FAMU def has a very respected strong and unique identity that shines through still though

Forsure, always respected FAMU as a strong and distinct identity, culture, and community, a lot of rich history and heritage I’ve always tried to learn and appreciate as an outsider

I respect that and…don’t expect anything else, there’s other bands that also “don’t play to the conference” but have sounds or styles that I would say fare better in battles like Norfolk, Tenn St, & some others. Yeah, like you said def a good sound mostly, just lacking the extra next step that’s actually kinda necessary in some songs, so it goes beyond just preference I think. Appreciate the support man💯

@@jasonhope1872 we disagree & that’s fine🤷🏾‍♂️I may not have the connection to the selections that others have cuz I don’t fw fighting games like that but also I think the song had great execution but was mostly still in the pocket with not a lot of very intricate lines, great articulation as always, but just a lot of call & response back & forth with those rhythms all song. Hope you enjoy the other videos on the channel💯

If Jackson Fans, Southern Fans, FAMU fans, Valley fans, all think I’m judging harshly…then am I judging hard or do we just disagree on some things?

I get you on the halftimes (hence why I don’t watch them consistently), and it’s no about the Cranking man. The style of music doesn’t transfer to Florida bands as well, the types of music being arranged and the arranging styles and evolution over time

It’s not about cranking & blasting loud 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️. It’s about being ENTERTAINING! Y’all are boring as hell! Norfolk & NCAT don’t crank & they’re entertaining. FAMU’s arrangements sound like UGA or Iowa State trying to play RnB or rap songs. Cookman just needs to update their book.

Bama State’s entire band spanked Famu. It’s a sad day when all you have to cling to is a sectional battle for a victory. Especially, when your band got murked like they did.😂

You’d be surprised at how many SWAC bands play marches in the Zero early season or as part of warm ups. It’s just mostly barred from 5th quarters for crowd enjoyment and different genres and styles

Ahhh I understand. I’ll admit that since FAMU has joined the SWAC I haven’t been the most up-to-date with their battles and traditionals (I watched a few in 19 and before though) so my fault for not recognizing that tradition

I definitely, from a few of their showings it forsure seems that way
