I would say they should have thought of it. These boxes are made to handle the elements and this happened in only a couple hours of me just going up in elevation
The stickers on the stacktech are the worst. The stickers came off in tiny pieces at the time these were very new to me maybe less than a couple weeks and I was just too busy. I eventually did take the heat gun and take the stickers off.
The stack tech has looked pretty cool but that lock mechanism did seem a little too sophisticated to me. I think a simpler cantilever design or something would be a little better all around and you wouldn’t worry so much about putting too much force into it in a situation like this. Unfortunately many designers would probably consider this a “niche scenario”
Here in the US, a lot of people use trucks personal and work. also, there are very remote areas where pick up trucks just makes sense. US has a very different vehicle culture than the rest of the world. We have larger roads, larger vehicles, and more luxurious vehicles on average.
@@KuzConstrution I have a cube van with a slide in ramp. Miter saw on wheels, table saw on wheels. Tile saw on wheels, tool box on wheels. I'm in an out of job site quickly. @@fortunecollector a lot of people don’t own companies and don’t need to have a van they just need to get to work with their personal tools. Also, there’s nothing wrong with vans. It’s just not a lot of construction workers have because they don’t own the company don’t need to carry around miter saw tile, saws, etc. they just need to carry their toolboxes around
But cost per box would go up more, and there would need to be constant power supply. Maybe if ToughBuilt would make a cold weather edition they could include that. But I wouldn't want extra heat near my tools, and I live in cold weather. Or maybe the ToughBuilt engineers could add an external portable electric heater with the same tech as the lamp post. Clip it onto the stackers, deploy, and enjoy heat.
One thing I will say is that if it rains and it freezes, then this is going to happen but if everything is dry and it freezes, then it would probably be fine and the mechanism still open
Man just bought the stack tech system to replace my Dewalt tough system and when I got them home I started wondering about how much water the lids would hold if left in my truck bed. Didnt really want to have puddles on my boxes after every rain. Never even thought about if the water freezes it might fuse the boxes together and affect the locking mech. Do you think you could tap the metal latch lightly in the direction of unlatching it with a hammer to break the lock free from being frozen?
@KuzConstrution Well that sucks. My Dwalt 1.0 Toughsystem didn't have that problem. I had it in all kinds of Indiana winter weather over the years and never had an issue unlatching and unstacking. I also have the Dewalt 2.0 but haven't had it in the winter here in Indiana yet. I'll probably stick with the Toughbuilt if they come out with the transporter soon. But if that never comes to market then I'll probably just revert back to my Dewalt boxes as they have worked fine for my needs over the years.
@user-xc6br5ri9b only issue with that is if u have a work dedicated truck it’s not great to have those canopies over to cover them. Most Siding crews like me don’t have bed coverers at least here in the Pacific Northwest.
@@duncdunc76I tried tough system, but the plastic broke in shipping due to the cold. The plastic they use is the worst. I think husky uses the same type
@army62b The material that is used in Dewalt toughsystem boxes is plenty durable and on par with all the other box systems in terms of material durability. I've see all brands have broken boxes at the bix box stores due to extremely poor shipping and handling.
I think this is more of a drainage issue the top of the boxes hold water very well and there is no drain for them. Also probably not most other boxes. I have rigid and I’m also I am sure the DeWalt and flex boxes would not do that at all.
Who would've thought that it wouldn't be "idiot proof"? 🤦♂️ No offense, but if your car gets frozen, you'll also be disappointed and make a video for the car manufacturers, right?
Haha I can open my car still when it’s frozen. This could have been solved with a simple drain hole. Also love the product just sharing something for others to be aware of lol.
Milwaukee is a great tool brand I personally like Makita. Their storage system is great especially if you have Milwaukee tools to go with it just cause they have integrated systems.
Sorry, I probably miss interpreted that. the Makita totes suck but their tools are great. Milwaukee totes are great and work well with Milwaukee tools because of the integration.
what integration does Milwaukee systems have with their tools? I have just bought Milwaukee power tools but am considering getting Toughbuilt@@KuzConstrution
I’ve also had trouble with some of my heavier boxes not wanting took unlock. I found out that if I lift or shake the top box it helps unlock… But haven’t been that cold.
The chargers do have fans in them, but I did not want to put venting because of all the rain we get in the Pacific Northwest, it would just be too much moisture coming into the box during most of the year
@@KuzConstrutionthey sell tiny air gaskets so that pressure does not add up and they are water proof. I built male/female plug on each side of the briefcase sized tool box. That way I can have batteries charging while locked and have a female plug on the outside so that I can plug in lights, shop vac, fan, whatever.
I just picked the 2.0 system up a few weeks ago once I saw that you can put a drawer on the bottom. I returned all of my Packout stuff that I bought during the promo because my biggest gripe is not having access to the largest bottom box without having to unstack everything.
yes but the only thing to consider is the only box that can be used with the dolly is the x large box. if you care about having the dolly at least. the medium box fits the cleats and attaches fine, but it doesn't protrude low enough so really doesn't work without major modification. may be a small issue for most but for me it's a big enough deal that i bought just the dolly from HD and i'm printing a set of feet that will lower the bottom of that medium box to accommodate. the x large box is just too deep for what i use it for and things just get lost in there and my 3 drawer bottom boxes are just too heavy to move around at this point and stay in the van.
Look like its your fault you left them out in the elements
I would say they should have thought of it. These boxes are made to handle the elements and this happened in only a couple hours of me just going up in elevation
Looks like water froze in the lock groves and won't allow lever to move?
Peel off the stickers

lol how
It’s frozen bro -_-
Yup lol
That's because you're stupid for leaving them out in the back unheated truck.....

Press several times with boiling water and the lock will defrost. Old Russian lifehack.
Not to the Ridgid system. 😂

Get the Klein mod box. Oh yeahhhh.

This will never happen to my Ridgid Progear boxes
