Baker Lake Sockeye Fishing - Kayak Fishing 2021
Hey guysssss! I know it's been a while and it's been a crazy year (for a lot of reasons I won't bore you with) and I haven't been able to get out much, but I'm still here. Thanks for sticking with me :) I'm getting caught up on going through older videos and will be making some new ones here shortly.
This is from the 2021 Baker Lake Sockeye fishery. We camp up here every year, bring the kayaks and the dogs, and spend time with our friends fishing. This was a tough year for fishing the lake. But I caught a Sockeye Salmon! And had a minor meltdown of excitement. What can I say? I'm a very excitable person and I legit almost started crying when I caught this fish lol.
We'll be back up to fish ...

Kayak Kokanee Fishing on a New Lake + Unexpected Catch!
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.3 года назад
Took the kayaks out to a lake we haven't fished before in search of some kokanee salmon (landlocked sockeye). Took a minute to dial it in, but once we got the right depth to run the gear at, the fishing got pretty good :) It was a gorgeous day to be out on the water. Trolling on my way back to the boat launch, I ended up with an unexpected catch that definitely didn't hit like a kokanee lol. If...
Catch & Cook Razor Clam Fritters

I seriously love razor clams sooooo much! This is just a fun little catch and cook from another day of razor clam digging in Washington where we cooked up some clam fritters on the beach after the dig. Super tasty! I'm always looking to try new recipes so please share if you're willing :) Hope you all got some clammies while it was open! Always check for biotoxin closures and current open harve...
Fishing for Starry Flounder on the Nisqually Delta Estuary
Просмотров 6 тыс.3 года назад
Fishing estuaries from a kayak really immerses you in the ecosystem. I took the kayak out fishing for Starry Flounder in the Nisqually Delta in Puget Sound, Washington. The estuary was full of bald eagles with a few golden eagles and we even came across a school of forage fish Pacific Sand Lance. Super cool!!!!! And we caught some flounder, but even if we hadn't it would have been a great day j...
The Best Way to Find & Dig Razor Clams (How to Dig Razor Clams in Washington)
Просмотров 45 тыс.3 года назад
Razor clams are one of the tastiest clams you can harvest in the Pacific Northwest. They are delicious and super easy to dig for. You just need a clam gun (or a shovel, or your hands if you're a beast) and a bag/container to put them in. You can get clam guns at pretty much any outdoors store (Sportco, Cabelas, Walmart even)...I prefer the aluminum ones with the vent holes because they're easie...
Riffe Lake Landlocked Coho Salmon & Triploid Trout Kayak Fishing
Просмотров 4,4 тыс.3 года назад
This ended up being a pretty awesome fishing adventure on Riffe Lake, Washington. We targeted landlocked coho salmon and triploid rainbow trout fishing from our kayaks. It was crazy windy when we first got there but it died down and gave us a few hours of lovely fishing before the wind picked up again in the afternoon. I trolled with a 1 oz weight on 1 rod and a 4 oz weight on the other. Both h...
Rainbow Trout Kayak Fishing in Washington (Trolling & Casting for Stocked Trout)
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.3 года назад
Trout fishing from a kayak is always so much fun!!! Rainbow trout are stocked for recreational fishing on every continent except Antarctica. Most lowland lakes in Washington have stocked trout. We went out for another fun mini adventure to troll for trout, cast at them from the kayak, and get a little bit of underwater footage to see things from the fish's perspective. I'll try pretty much anyt...
Trout Limit in 1 Hour on Kayak's Maiden Voyage

Just a little evening kayak fishing for trout in a small lake. I *needed* to christen my new kayak (it’s an Old Town Sportsman PDL 120) so we held a very serious ceremony and then hit the water to catch some rainbow trout. Only ended up fishing for a little over an hour before sunset but it was a super fun trip and the trout were mostly cooperative. It was a mix of trolling and casting from the...
Fishing the Herring Spawn in Washington (Catching Herring for Bait) + Underwater Fish Footage
Просмотров 7 тыс.3 года назад
The herring were spawning, so we went out to catch a few, taking advantage of one of the best times to fish for herring from shore. We mostly use them as bait for other fish but they make good eating too. It was a pretty stormy day. The wind and rain were a little crazy but it still ended up being a fun quick little fishing trip. We just used a surf rod to huck a sabiki rig out into the water. ...
Percebes: Harvesting, Cooking, & Eating Gooseneck Barnacles (Percebes) on the Beach (Catch & Cook)
Просмотров 73 тыс.3 года назад
These barnacles may look bizarre, but they're edible! People risk their lives harvesting Percebes (also called Gooseneck Barnacles or Goose Barnacles) off cliffs in some parts of the world. I'm fortunate enough to live in a place where a little bit of rock scrambling led me to an easy and delicious catch and cook on the beach. It was such a treat! I never thought I'd be eating barnacles but it ...
Catch & Cook Eulachon (Smelt) + Making Fish Candles! Cowlitz River Smelt Fishing
Просмотров 6 тыс.3 года назад
Salmon may get most of the attention in the Pacific Northwest, but Eulachon are easily just as interesting if not moreso! These fish really exemplify the unique relationship between people and fish in the northwest. I had so much fun smelt dipping on the Cowlitz River. Dipnet fishing for smelt (eulachon) is only open for one day (sometimes two days) in years when the returning spawners are supe...
Clam Digging, ID & Taste Test: Butter Clams vs. Native Pacific Littleneck Clams vs. Manila Clams

We went clam digging for manila clams, butter clams, and native Pacific littleneck clams all on the same beach in Puget Sound, Washington. I’ll show you 1) how to dig butter clams, manila clams, and littleneck clams, 2) where to find clams on the beach, and 3) how to identify similar looking clams and ways to different...
How to Catch Ghost Shrimp (Sand Shrimp) to Use as Fish Bait
Просмотров 9 тыс.3 года назад
Ghost shrimp (also known as sand shrimp) are really excellent fish bait so we catch them with a shrimp pump. They're found in Washington, Oregon, and California. So many fish love ghost shrimp salmon, sturgeon, surfperch, striped bass, etc. Pumping ghost shrimp is super fun and easy. It's really cool to see how pumping a single hole sucks the water from dozens of connected holes/tunnels. I'll s...
Manila Clam Forage & Feast (Digging & Cooking Clams on the Beach)
Просмотров 6 тыс.3 года назад
Last weekend was a decent low tide, so we went out to dig Manila Clams in on the beach. With the coast closed to Razor Clams, digging for steamer clams in Puget Sound is a super fun and easy alternative for a clam adventure. If you've ever wondered how to dig for steamer clams, it's way easier than you'd think. It's like an Easter egg hunt with the added bonus of digging on the beach. We cooked...
Resident Coho Salmon Kayak Fishing in Winter in Washington

I got way too excited about catching this fish. We took the Hobie kayaks out to go fishing for resident coho salmon in Puget Sound, Washington. We used terminal gear. Sometimes casting works for these guys, but today trolling was more effective. It’s one of the few winter fisheries for salmon (hatchery mark-selective). It’s a weird salmon fishery though. If you want to hear about what makes the...

1:00, Hi, one of my favorite methods to use is snag the squids on the surface and the fact that the hooks are wide, they’re easier to snag. I want you to try one of my methods and sharing it out. Thanks 😊

It was painful to watch you put clams in water before it’s on the full boil. Mine pop open in 6 seconds, sparing them having to feel the tortuous scald so long. Also, I want someone to tell me a good reason to snip off the ends of the siphons. In my opinion, it’s just a waste of good clam meat. 🤦‍♂️ I wonder who the first person was to do this. Definitely not an indigenous person. Your fritter recipe looks incredible! I’m going to do it tonight, in fact. I’m up here near Lopez Island on a very small island called Center Island. Razor clamming has never been so good on the Newport, Oregon beaches. I have two limits in the freezer up here. Thank you so much for the fantastic tutorial on the cooking of the clams.

People used to "fish" Nisqually Delta by walking in the shallow water barefoot ... stepping on a flounder to hold it, and then grabbing it ... I prefer to just by a Big Fish sandwich at Burger King.

Im kind of amazed at how much bottom fish and crab people are eating out of Puget Sound particularly near river mouths where polluted storm water and sewage treatment plant discharge accumulates. There's cleaner area's of Puget Sound where crab, shellfish and other fish are safer to eat but at the mouth of a river found to have high levels of fire retardant chemicals in it I'll pass. Im sure the occasional 3oz portion is ok but personally I steer clear of eating anything off of the bottom of most of Puget Sound.
