Elliott Smith used this technique for his BEAUTIFUL intro

In this video, I show you how to use a tremolo-picking with two fingers that Elliott Smith played in the intro of his live performance of "L.A" I found a tab online that seems pretty accurate, that you can look at: tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/elliott-smith/la-chords-3517016 Clip used in this video: Elliott Smith - Live at Town Hall 2000 ruclips.net/video/H4DaXFUQGbs/видео.html&ab_channel=LenaK...
How to play "Can't Make A Sound" by Elliott Smith
Просмотров 3,7 тыс.Год назад
Hello everyone So this epic song is really fun to play. It has some interesting chords that sounds a bit odd but works beautifully. Very Beatles-esque. How do you guys play the very FIRST chord of the song? I've heard and seen people play a regular C-chord. But what I can hear it's more of a Em7/G (3x2003). It sounds right to me. Let me know if theres any question or if there is other Elliott S...

Thanks for sharing this! I always love learning his songs. I've always loved the albums, and then being able to watch him play the tracks solo acoustic is really fun for learning them and practicing a lot of good technique. I hope you keep making more of these.

cool channel, i do wanna add that it really sounds like hes playing c6 and d6 instead of the standard A shape bar chord c and d( hes adding the high e in the bar on the 5th fret for c and 7th fret for d). to me once you try it, every other way just doesnt seem right

That ending is amazing and this is a great acoustic version you worked out, really captures the spirit. In that studio version I’ve tried to count the layers, there’s at least 2 vocal harmonies, strings, keyboard, acoustic, electric guitar, piano maybe an electric organ. Switching off lead lines which vary as well. It’s like a beautiful orchestra of sound. Easy for him, not for anyone else.

If you like Elliott's playing you should check out Dave Matthews on Crush and Harry Nillson on something Without Her. Both similar to Elliott in delivery. I got into Elliott just before he died and his death was truly a shock. Despite my love of his music I have never really seriously tried to play anything by him ..... yet.

Even though Elliott sings B over the opening chord, I hear it played (3x2013) listen closely for the C note on string 2 to move up to C# when switching to the A7/C#. Great play though overall. Just about nailed it.

That "tricky part" is tricky but when you get it down it's so satisfying. This is a good enough example of how to play this song I think. It's not a "tutorial" per se but let's be real, breaking ES songs note by note for an absolute beginner would be an extremely frustrating exercise. There's some substantial fundamental skills required for most of his stuff. Your English is very good.

If you don’t have nails, just turn the volume up on your amp, mic or whatever and gently do it with your finger tips. It actually sounds nicer too in my personal opinion, like less sharp. I’m pretty sure Elliott did it without nails from the way it sounds when he plays it.

I never really had a problem because of leaving But everything reminds me of her this evening So if I seem a little out of it, sorry But why should I lie? Everything reminds me of her The spin of the Earth impaled a silhouette Of the sun on the steeple And I gotta hear the same sermon All the time now from you people "Why are you staring into outer space, crying? Just because you came across it and lost it" Everything reminds me of her Everything reminds me of her Everything reminds me of her
