Unraveling George Michael's CARELESS WHISPER
The Clash's version was OK but had nowhere the "reach' that The BF4's had.
Martin wasn't just a guitarist and songwriter, but also an incredible vocalist.
People Get Ready (Impressions/ Jeff Beck Rod Stewart and dozens of others).
"I Fought the Law" was a huge hit by the Bobby Fuller 4 in the mid-60's. The Clash's version was a cover of it. If you listen to it, The Beatles version of "Twist and Shout" is a note for note cover of the Isley Brothers' version. If you have a good ear, you'll find "Twist and Shout" and Richie Valens' cover of ""La Bamba" are basically the same song. You forgot "Black Magic Woman" by Santana! It really stuns people when they find out it's a cover. The thing I've always liked about Santana's cover of "Black Magic Woman" is that it is faithful to the original by Fleetwood Mac. Another great cover you forgot was "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" by Them, featuring a young Van Morrison. I think it's superior to Dylan's original.
Janis Joplin just copied Etta James
It's honestly not very good. Historic but eh. The Who was great. Full with Toni Iomi was also historic.
Re Torn, popularised by Natalie Imbruglia, and originally by Ednaswap, so where does Lis Sørensen fit into all of this?
I grew up on this, Depeche mode really influenced me this album the most.
Watching from Greece.hi everybody. Very interesting video.
Ich liebe die Orginalversion von Halleluja von Leonard Cohen von Anfang an. Die neure ist mir zu schmalzig und wirkt auch nicht authentisch.
Ono's howling.......
crimson and clover
What about tainted love being in the coneheads movie.
How great for Georgia on my mind you show Lauren Bacall in her first movie.
Who farted is the greatest cover.
Who were the Clash? Never heard their version.
Got most of the older ones. Stopped listening to most pop music after 1976 or so.
Crimson and Clover sung by Joan Jett -- Original by Tommy James and the Shondells. House of the rising Sun sung by The Animals. Originally written in the 1920s (maybe earlier) and recorded by several others before The Animals.
I have heard that some people consider House of the Rising Sun to be a folk song whose roots go way back
@@miken3260 I have made a few animated music videos. House of the Rising Sun is one I am currently working on. Doing research I found it was written in the early 1900s and first recorded in the 1920s. The lyrics have changed a little over the years but not by much.
"Hush" by Deep Purple, a cover of Billy Joe Royal's song
Joe South wrote "Hush".
@Vivian-g1h Written FOR Billy Joe, who was the original recording artist
Too much TALKING, far too little MUSIC. SAD THING ... makes the video bad.
Gloria Jones original was far better than the soft cell cover.
Can I also mention Ram Jam's only real hit , Black Betty.
STREETHEART, while having a ton of great originals really knew how to work a cover. Their versions of The Stones' Under my Thumb or Van Morrison's Hear Comes the Night or, or Humble Pie's Tin Soldier. Such a good band.
Huh? The Bobby Fuller Four had a huge hit version of “I Fought The Law” and you didn’t mention it.
The Tide is High was originally by a Jamaican group called the Paragons, but Blondie had a bigger impact with their version.
I think the Clash got their version from The Bobby Fuller Four
To illustrate how unique the music by Jim Morrison the doors was they're almost no covers of any of it door Sonos so unique that they just owned the song and since their existence barely on his even tried to touch it one great notable exception was the great hit in their first hit like my fire which the great Mexican musician Jose Feliciano did and it was a huge hit but think about it what was famous doors songs nobody touched them they were just too unique and the doors on them and every sense
THEYS WERNT NO TIGGERS OR BARES OR GARAFFS
I was a freshman at Purdue in 1990. Didn't go home for Christmas. Alone in a giant empty dorm I listened to this album as I got ready to go to the theater with a friend to see a new movie called Edward Scissorhands. Hearing these songs whips me back in time to one of the best Christmas' I've ever had
They hide it because it shows undeniable proof of how superior The Who is to the Stones.
This video's title is nonsense. Everybody I know, if you ask them who recorded these songs first and whose recording is later but more famous, would get 9 out of 10 on this. How can anyone write a title of "You Don't Know This But ...". What makes someone uploading a video believe that everyone who is going to read that title won't know these facts? How can you guess what someone else doesn't know? It's impossible. (The 1 out of 10 that I think a lot of people will miss on will be a belief that the Isley Brothers were the first to record "Twist And Shout". But even then, they will all still know that the Beatles were not first there.)
“Lowdown” is still one of my favorite songs and Boz is among my favorite artists. This song takes me back to the summer of ‘76 when it was a monster hit. His backup band is made up of members of the band that eventually became Toto.
J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers had massive hit with "Last Kiss" .. No. 2 on the Billboard Top 100 in 1964 .. covered many times .. that said .. I prefer Pearl Jam's 1999 version ..
25, 26, 27 yr old Ego's were the main Reasons! The Who 🇬🇧 Blew away every other Band! The Dirty Mac were 👍🏻
Thank you .Bob Marley's buffalo soldier is also his version of a song originally done by Giddes Chalamanda from Malawi
"I Will Always Love You" was originally written and recorded by Dolly Parton. It had minor success until Whitney Houston turned it into a blockbuster hit.
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Too much talking, too few music.
I just wished The Who's other performance was shown. Keith was in full clown costume and face paint. It makes sense that The Who archives would have it, as their song was originally shown in 1978 for "The Kids Are Alright" film. The director for that film was going all around searching for Who footage and thankfully rediscovered the footage of the RnR Circus. He also found the camera rushes for Woodstock. Honestly, it's a miracle that the footage exists. Imagine if the TV show was broadcast in '69 at the BBC? That TV station is known for bulk erasing the master tapes back then, and most likely the extra B-roll footage would have been scrapped.
Janis Joplin's wonderful, almost autobiographical song, Little Girl Blue, was written by Rogers and Hart for the musical Jumbo in 1935. More than 30 years between the original and most celebrated cover version ...
Leonard Cohen's version of Hallelujah was the original, most powerful and most impressive version of the song. It was incredibly popular and influential when it was released, and will shine brighter than any cover versions of the song. Your comparison with Jeff Buckley's inferior cover is totally inaccurate and misleading.
Cheryl Crows version of Cat Stevens The first cut is the Deepest, and Juicy Lucys version of Midnight Rider by Allman Brothers!
The Isley Bros; version of "Twist and Shout" was a far greater hit than the Beatle's version.
Danish song made know by norwegian singer Trine Rein, TORN!
Ray Charles voice and way of singing caused his greatness .
one of my favorite bands of all time. their political and social lyrics combined with their raw energy simply blew my mind their DVD 10,000 Watts is a favorite of mine and I was lucky enough to see them live in the states back in the early 2000's. they put on one of my favorite concerts (if not my favorite concert
Her mans been gone. For nigh on a year. He was due home yesterday but he ain’t here. That’s why!!
You're all getting so worked up about copies, you all seem to think you know the original version or the best version, but just stop and think that music is a part of the time, fashion and feeling for people in the particular day. The good thing about music is that it is appealing to almost everyone, no-one owns the musical tones, and all music has sprung from the classics. I'm afraid nothing is new in music, it's just delivered in a different way.
Janice Joplin ruined every cover she ever did.
A.I. Voice mispronounces Pete Townsend's name.
