I just love how gently you go into rural areas with so much respect . I saw folks much like that the first time i went to Puerto Rico, up in the mountains or deep into farm lands. Living litterally on the land.Charlie what a wonderful memory of your birthday today. all they seem to need is a stream, a few animals, some tools. watching that woman drag home that huge section of bamboo. she did not have to buy it. and I know she has something in mind to make with it. As we left Pureto Rico, we decided not to keep our household items and ship them all the way to newfoundland and we drove around to very poor villiages and gave away. rugs. dishes, pots and pans containers. most prized of all. a two wheeled cart. a wringet washer machine. batteries, lamps, flashlights. pillows and bedding, trinkets and it pulled into such a crowd. it felt so good to pay it all forward. and let others feel like they got a score that day of give away. All the baby clothes I gave away were just adorded. yes go gently, go generously. and respectful.

Luang Prabang. Take the slow boat ride. It's a river cruise up and down the Mekong river. Laos has a very relax vibe. It is quiet and peaceful. I don't like the noise and crowded cities in Vietnam and Thailand.

Loved the ferry! How sweet was that little family? I would have wanted to leave them as much as I could, short of being insulting. I think his main dream is to be happy with those he loves most in a nicer house right where he is. All of the people seemed very nice. You are such a rare thing to see in the middle of nowhere, two Americans. Westerners. It will give them a story for years too. I think if I lived there, my bike would have solid rubber tires!
