The perfect sweet-tart rhubarb galette!
INGREDIENTS:
1 flaky pie crust recipe, or 1 store-bought pie crust
1 pound rhubarb, sliced into 1 ½-inch pieces on the bias
½ cup sugar
3 tablespoons minced candied ginger
4 tablespoons strawberry jam, divided
1 orange, zested
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons chopped pistachios
1 tablespoon turbinado sugar
Whipped cream, for serving

When I apprenticed to a German chef, we had cucumber salad as a dedicated side dish. We made it very similarly, but we peeled, salted, and drained the cucumber (which we sliced on a mandolin), and then added whole milk yogurt, crushed green peppercorns, minced dill and parsley, lemon juice, a pinch (very much a pinch) of sugar, salt, and a splash of tarragon vinegar. It was one of our most popular sides, and my family still requests I bring it to every gathering, no matter what else I bring. 😂😂

Still loaded with sugar carbs. My diabetic husband wouldn't touch that. Even with added fiber and protein it's not enough to counteract the sugar

I see a lot of these recipes using olive oil and I go to the grocery store and buy extra virgin olive oil but it doesn’t taste as good when using regular olive oil. Is that because of a difference in the smoke point of both those oils?
Extra-virgin olive oil should be more flavorful than regular olive oil. If you are heating it over too high of heat, to the point of smoking, then you will lose that flavor. Extra-virgin olive oil is best for medium-heat cooking. I hope this helps!
