Firstly: This is not one of their full-blown EVs. This happens to be a BYD Tang, a Plug-in hybrid vehicle, not a full-fat EV. In particular this is a pre-2019 BYD Tang. Secondly: BYD's _hybrids_ have had several issues related to their pouch-celled batteries. Their full EVs use prismatic cell batteries which are easier to cool and easier to package safely. Their hybrids on the other hand have used pouch cells (akin to what electric scooters, Phones etc have). Pouch cells are great for packaging and are relatively low cost, however they are a pain in the butt to cool and really should be used only in low-voltage applications (say, less than 14.8V) due to the lack of cooling capacity. In any vehicle that requires more than 14.8V of operating power, it's recommended to use prismatic cells with built in current limiting fuses. BYD has since switched to what they call a "Short Blade" battery, which uses a prismatic cell as opposed to a Pouch cell, directly in response to these fires. Thirdly: the NHTSB has statistics which show that you are 64 times less likely to be caught in an EV fire than in a pure ICE car fire. However you are 164 times _more_ likely to be caught in a Hybrid fire when compared to an EV fire. This is because of the fact that you have _two types_ of energetic compound on board the vehicle, and hybrids tend to package their battery for greater _power density_ (ie stacking more cells in series in comparison to cells in parallel) than EVs which focus on _energy density_ (which requires the car to have more cells in parallel compared to cells in series for better range) Fourthly: Look at the white vehicle at the end (also why are you stitching clips of two different incidents, sounds very disingenuous to me). It is a green and white license plate that starts with an F. Vehicles registered in China that have letters starting with F,G,H,J and K with a green and white license plate are _Hybrid Vehicles_ and are not full-blown EVs. Finally: Lithium and other solid material fires do not spread as quickly as gasoline fires. It is likely that all the passengers in this car got out safely. All four doors appear to be closed and the headlights and other ancillaries appear to be disabled. There also appears to be no passengers in the vehicle. If this was a gasoline car fire, i'd expect there to not be a car left. Gas tends to _explode_ as it is in a confined space with no way for the flames to vent out. Source? I work in an OSHA role.
