Little Chute - Mount Baldy - Alta Ski Area - 4/20/24
Little Chute on Alta's famous Mt. Baldy, 11,068 feet (3,372 meters). Quite scary. No fall zone. Leftover video from the day before closing day 2024. The date? 4/20. :-) I'd never skied the chute before. Definitely wanted to check it off my to-do list. That narrow top section had me pretty psyched out. Mind wouldn't let me turn. The choke had really big bumps in it. The video doesn't show the steepness very well, except when you see my upper leg bent. Quintessential survival skiing. Made it down in one piece, under my own control (mostly). That's a win.

In high winds and low visibility, the trees are the place to go. Here's some fun and spicy steep tree skiing at Alta Ski Area. Here I start at the top of Alf's High Rustler then hit: Stump Shot, Regal Chute, Rustler 4 and end on 180 Bend. Getting to some of these spots is half the fun.

A fantastic bluebird weekend of skiing at Alta Ski Area comes to an end. #sadface This is my last run which is one that's not possible very often, unless like today all the runs are open. It starts with some boot-packing up a steep slope on Mount Baldy. I take a peek down 1st Chute, then ski down 2nd Chute. From there I go across the East Baldy traverse into the north-facing section of Baldy, w...

Then when you get to the bottom of The Apron, you take off your skis and boot pack straight...

High Notch is a classic Alta Ski Area run. It can be quite intimidating when you first ski up to it, especially in low snow conditions when there's not a lot of snow coverage. In this video I approach High Notch and ski down from under it. I'm quite careful in the entrance because it is very steep and visibility isn' t very good.

What an absolutely fantastic pow day at Alta Ski Area today. I hit #TheShoulder 4 times (requires hiking and sweating a lot) and did lots of aggressive tree skiing. Searching for good snow at Alta Ski Area after extreme winds blew all the powder away!

After an 84" storm, and the canyon being closed Sunday, I expected to find an absolute powder fest Monday at Alta Ski Area. But high winds up to 110mph in the canyon blew the powder away! Many areas were wind blasted down to the underlying ice crust and rock. So the challenge was to find out WHERE the wind blown snow had been deposited. In this video I spend several minutes "searching" for some...

watching this (you) scared the shit outta me. directly at your entrance just from the sound of your skis and the ski width choke i said to myself, “self. this where you get into a rhythm of tight jump turns. slow safe solid” the moment you took your first turn… i took my first breath from watching your descent. well done but yikes

I remember when they were practicing the route. They came out of little cottonwood canyon, flew over my house in sandy, headed north to SLC, TURNED OVER Park city, came back theough the canyon, and repeated 4 more times. I thought the windows on my house were going to explode. And I thought the US was under attack because I didnt know they were practicing for the game.

@Tony Korologos As a guy that loves to ski out west but has a job locking him into living in the northeast I find myself needing more rest than I feel I can get when I go out west to ski for a week and feel the need to get as much skiing in as I can while I'm there...as I've gotten older I try to get one no ski day after 3 ski days but depending on the snow situation (powder day on day 4 I'm skiing!) it doesn't always work out like that. I'm in no hurry to get older and retire but I am looking forward to skiing 5 times as many days I do now but pacing myself over a season, maybe something like alternating ski days and rest days, maybe not feeling the need to go from fighting for first chair until the lifties tell you it's a wrap at 4 o'clock.
