Owned a photo and camera shop from 1992-2016. Sold the shop in 2016. Still occasionally shoot events like sports and weddings. Went digital in 1999 when Nikon released the D1 and haven't looked back. I use open source software for my digital photography management, workflow and video editing. Linux is my operating system. No Microsoft, No Apple.

Turn Your Text Into Audio Files With Text To Speech Module in Linux

So I showed this program before, but when I showed it, I only showed how to do speech to text. And then I did get some comments about people wanting to know, will it do text to speech? And can they export it to an audio? Yes, it can. So I'm going to show you today how we can take text, put it into the program, and then have it export as an audio file. The first video about speech to text is her...

First thing i did aftear install - i changed the Wallpaper.
I appreciate how you presented it in a very easy way. I needed my Windows partitions because they contain most of my steam games, so I needed them to mount because having to click on the drives and re-add the drives in steam is cumbersome. Thank you so much! It's good to know there's an easy way :)
Glad it could help!
Thank you for sharing. On photo P: document + editing + online = serious privacy concerns, at least for me. Still, photo P another tool in the kit for those completely indifferent to such concerns.
THANK You VERRY VERYY MuCH AS THIS HELPED AND OPENED MANYY DESIRED OPTIONS FOR ME uSING LINuX MINT. (MY FIRST FAVouRITE LINuX BASED O.S)
You can also open the pdf in your browser for limited editing. XournalPP allows opening as a background and annotating the pdf including adding images , drawing , erasing , signing etc. Then the edit can be exported as a new pdf. I use XournalPP to electronically fill non-interactive pdf forms without having to do the print-fill-scan dance.
Thanks for showing us this. It should be Government-Mandated that Adobe releases good tools for both Windows and Linux to allow us to edit a PDF. And, how this is acting, is just the same (almost) in Windows how I have to go and edit PDF's. Because there are programs that let you edit a PDF, but almost all of them have an annual subscription now. Hard to find an one-time license anymore, because I'd pay for something -- if it let me not MONKEY with the BS that you are showing. Because, sometimes, I have to go back and edit sections of my Tax Forms, because I forgot a number (or it was wrong), then I have to move it around in an Image Program. Very stupid. There has to be a better way.

Excellent tutorial.

Speech Note convinced me that all the LLM talk was not just hype. It is transformative. For accessibility reasons, I've checked it out for my wife's use. So I tried a paragraph from one of her books: when it got "eleventh century hagiographer" without hesitation, I knew something had changed, fundamentally. In more sober detail: it's only really good if you use one of the biggest models. Otherwise, it's about as good as all the other standard speech to text programs. I haven't done a proper quantitative test, but most good Speech to Text apps work out at about 98.5% accuracy: I'd guess Speech Note with a big model is about 99.5%. That doesn't sound like much of an improvement, but it means one third as many mistakes to correct manually as normal. Ordinary speech to text is marginally useful for many people: there are so many mistakes that typing (for non-professional but competent typists) is about as efficient: Speech Note shifts the balance. It is slow: I've only used it on something with an 8th gen Intel chip, and nothing fancy in the graphics card department, and it's nowhere near real time. But it implements, easily, a killer feature. It is straightforward to record your voice digitally, point Speech Note at the recording, and go off and have a cup of coffee or whatever you use to pass the time while it transcribes it. In about 1990, when Dragon Dictate was king, it occurred to me that the way to go was to take a tape recording (and I do mean tape, it was that long ago) and analyze it at the machine's own pace to get it as accurate as possible. Now we have it. Used entry-level pro voice recorders are cheap. One other feature it has is translation. It works, kind of, but with the models available it's no better than Google translate, on a quick test. But the machinery is there for when the models get better, and it could be really good. As far as I can see, Speech Note is no more than a front end to allow normies to use the capabilities of LLMs; but that is a wonderful thing to give the world. Doubtless there will be more programs of this type, and there will be better ones, but this is what we have, and it is good.
Really great video, everyone should watch this! Thanks :)
Thank you
That bottom panel is crazy, man!!!
LOL It sure is. I can't help it.
@@burnbarrelmedia In my case, it's on the right edge, it hides and recently deleted the launch applications applet. I wen full minimalist with Cinnamon.
If you want to go minimalist, why not Xfce? A pdf file is meant to stay as it is, that's the whole purpose of pdf. A minor, last minute correction before going to press, that's ok, but otherwise, go back to the application that created the document. I use Firefox to edit pdf and it does a good job nowadays.
After shifting to Linux only thing I miss is refresh option. So glad we can add it here as well 😮
Be sure to install xdotool for it to work. I forgot to mention that.
There’s a problem with External hard drives. My Western Digital external hard drive doesn’t seem to work on Linux mint but works under windows.
Same computer with dual boot?
@@burnbarrelmedia it miraculously started working. I hooked it up windows pc and clicked yes on “fix files” pop up. Then tried it back on Linux and somehow the files opened.
Tq for this. 13:45 Opening as root from file system has separate preferences compared to nemo in non root user mode. Simply open as root and then change the 'nemo as root' preferences and you can get list view again.
how i get the battery to show percentage
Right click on the battery icon near the clock. Select "Configure" Change the display to "Show Percentage"
To have the list view open as root you need to set those settings under the root user as well.
Best tutorial
Thx
Sorry for asking. I tried Linux Mint using USB live on my laptop (dedicated AMD GPU) and noticed the colors were washed out compared to Windows so I'm wondering if it's permanent or will get fixed after a full install since the GPU doesn't show yet in system info. Also the audio quality is lower....
It's hard to say. You need to make sure you have the drivers installed for the hardware. Nvidia makes dedicated drivers for Linux Mint
Thank you very much. I played with Sticky Notes a while ago, but I didn't discover all the tricks (especially making them appear and disappear); I'm now going to use it properly.
The above is the comment that I was going to write, so I guess I'll just put a +1 here :)
I just tried this. It's great. I'm trying it now. I'm going to try the copy and paste function. It should be interesting to use this in my efforts.
Thanks for this. New to Linux. This is one of several criteria required for me to switch from windows. Other tutorials would have me doing all kinds of things I don't yet understand with terminal commands. Gigolo just works, and is clear and easy to understand - more like the windows implementation. It or something similar should simply be included with the OS.
I agree. It should be included
I thank you very much. very good video. the explanations in the video are awesome.
Thanks
Great video, picked up a few tips which i never even knew. Thanks!

A simple ? small tool with a lot of functionality explained very clear. Thanks for showing more than just the basic features 👍
Clear and helpful: excellent, as usual.
Linux Mint is the best unless you want to use a Bluetooth keyboard.
Some Great info! Appreciate 👍
Thanks so much for posting this. I nearly missed it - thanks to U2B not notifying me. TBH - I am not a big fan of Flatpaks so will look for a native Deb file to install via Synaptic as - I run LMDE-6 Mint
I hear ya. I just use the package manager whenever possible because I prefer it to auto update where .deb files usually don't
@@burnbarrelmedia Ended up using the Flatpak. 2 Gigabytes --- good grief. Maybe people don't care -- but I think it's pushing Linux down a path of un-sustainability. The whole idea of Linux was to not only provide freedom of choice - but to breath life into old computers. Seems like people higher the Linux food-chain either don't care or have turned their backs on that philosophy. Crying shame.
If you're not gaming, you might want to try PCLinuxOS based out of Texas.
Is it local or is it using api or internet ?
I ran it from my laptop with no internet and it worked fine. So it ran local
@@burnbarrelmedia That's good to know.
Good tips! For refresh, I find it faster to just hit F5, which works for most apps.
I was looking for this comment. I also prefer to use my keyboard rather than my mouse. It's much faster.
Can I clone my own voice?
Excellent. Downloading it now. Thanks.

Great video, can you explain how to create a network share in Linuxmint? I'd like to share my "public" folder in my local network. Tia
Make sure Samba is installed, right click on the folder you want to share and select "sharing options"

I downloaded the last version of Mint and upgraded to the current offering. I open the firewall configuration, put in my password, and within 5 seconds the computer freezes. I end up doing a hard shutdown (press and hold power button). When I reboot, Mint is fine, but it freezes whenever I get to that certain point after opening the firewall config.

I am not too bad for a two fingers typer -- what I want is to be able to hear my own words being read back to me. I can see that it can do that - but I am wondering if it requires me to read it out loud first - for it to play it back as audio ?
In reference to the speech to text video? if you're talking about text into speech, yes it can do that. I'm going to do a follow up video on how to do that.
@@burnbarrelmedia That would be such great help. I am looking forward to it. PS I've subscribed. :)
Thank you for this information. Extremely helpful. I wish I found this video earlier lol.
Glad it was useful for you
#9 Just press the F5 key on your keyboard. Zero mouse movements and one button press.
That's true but the mouse is already in my hand. It's much longer to reach up to the keyboard than it is to right click!
@@burnbarrelmedia Fair point. I'm just looking at it from a simple level that doesn't require third party installs, custom config files, and root access. I also don't trust others with the security of my system but I've been in IT for 28 years and I have a bias. All that said, unless you only have one hand/arm, I'd wonder what your other hand is doing LOL.
Thanks, very nice
YW
Rescuzilla is good, it's clonezilla with a gui
Very revealing! And obvious bias.
There is something very wrong with Mint 22 Intel video drivers, the screen on my Nuc7i5bnb blacks out randomly for 1-2 sec when the mouse is moved, especially towards the bottom of the screen. I have had both Win10 and Mint 21.3 installed using the same monitor and have had no issues. I agree Mint 22 would be great if the video was fixed.
Have you gone into "driver manager" and make sure you're using the Nvidia and not xserver drivers?
@@burnbarrelmedia The Nuc video is Intel not Nvidia, the driver manager reports that “No drivers are necessary” so there is no option to update or replace the driver - since Mint 21.3 works fine, the Intel video drivers in 22 have changed for the worst.
why so difficult , on linux you make a snapshot and ready much more easy.
Yes, but this a universal cloning system for any operating system. I have also had problems restoring with Timeshift. This eliminates that
Not difficult at all if you follow the directions
@@burnbarrelmedia I do both, Timeshift and Clonezilla full disk images when Mint has a kernel update
@@burnbarrelmedia Correct! I hozed my Linux system last year. Timeshift let me down, but my clonezilla restore got me going. I trust it.
