From my sleeve notes for the album So Ends This Day :
After John Boyle O ‘Reilly’s escape on the whaleship “Gazelle “ in 1869, he settled in Boston and became known as an author , a poet and the editor of The Pilot newspaper. He was determined that his comrades who remained in Fremantle’s Prison known as The Establishment would not be forgotten. John Devoy who in 1871 was a leader of Clan na Gael in new York corresponded with O ‘Reilly and a plan to rescue the six Fenians by means of a whaling ship slowly became reality . I so love this song. ❤
I read about the history of this song in a great book, The Irish Child. It’s as haunting as the book says
Who wrote that book ? I’ve not heard of it
@@eiliskennedymusic4796 Daisy O’Shea wrote it. Very good book, hard to put down, gripping
I just came to find this song for the same reason!!
Just beautiful. I'm in tears listening to the beautiful singing, perfect guitar accompaniment and touching lyrics. Delighted to hear this sung in person at the Baltimore Fiddle Fair, and to meet you afterwards, Eilis
thank you , Sue !
Such a beautiful song. Perfectly done in every way. <3
Beautiful singing. I swear I have seen this singer beside Pauline Scanlon singing duets for Lumiere.
Yes , we are Lumiere together ! Eilis

Beautiful!
I'm surprised I haven't worn this CD out. It's exquisite!
Lovely rendition Éilis………👍🏼✌🏼
Go hiontach ar fad.
I just want to say how deeply moving I found this song! I heard it on the radio Folk Club with Lynette Fay maybe a year ago but couldn't remember your name or enough of the lyrics to find it again! It came on the show again recently though and this time I wrote down the details! I've been listening to it allot since and have started to learn to song it with my mandolin. I find your words so evocative, and after reading your history of the song on band camp I find the song even more powerful. I'm a bit of a historical fiction nerd and love to read books that explore the reality of peoples lives from the past, so this song ticks all the boxes for me. I'm looking forward to listening to more of you music now! Thank you.
Thank you Alice - its great to know people pay attention to lyrics and its thrilling to know people are singing the songs too !
Éilis, I love your songs, your voice and the way you sing. A hug from a musician friend and your fan from Brazil. P.S. Sorry for my bad English

Hi there - the lyrics and translation are available on the booklet of the CD and on my website . Here is the text in the meantime! Ciúmhais Charraig Aonair Lusitania Words : Caoímhín Ó Cinnéide Music : Shaun Davey Ciúmhais Charraig Aonair faoí chúr na dtonn Deóraí bocht brónach na mílte crói go fonn Tinteáin gheala fágtha go deo faoí bhrón I muchóid na maidine monuar na mbog ochón. Finné ar fheall tú a mheall gach éinne Inis an scrios dúinn Cé ‘shéid an Lusitania ? Smaointe na scuainte mar cheo ód chrios Scuabtha ag na teólaithe fán doimhin anois. Báid chófraí chómhairís’ ar a gconair ón gCóbh Danair , Don Juan is flatha sa taisteal dóibh Sáirséal , San Ruth is fearaibh Tone faoí chéad Chonaicís’ na Múraigh ag scriosadh Dhún na Séad Finné ar fheall tú a mheall gach éinne Inis an scrios dúinn ; Cé ‘shéid an Lusitania ? The edge of Fastnet, beneath the foaming waves Pity the poor eager hearted exiles in their thousands Hearths left forever in sadness Soft cries, in the morning melancholy Witness - did you deceive You who enticed them all Tell us of the wreckage ;who destroyed the Lusitania? Lines of thoughts like fog from your ocean belt The divers of the deep have swept them away by now You counted coffin ships from Cobh The Danes , Don Juan and sovereigns travelled Sarsfield , San Ruth and Tone’s men in their hundreds You who saw the Moors at the Sack of Baltimore You who were witness and deceived them all Tell us of the wreckage? Who destroyed the Lusitania? These words were penned by Dad one early May morning during an eventful fishing trip. Passing the Fastnet Rock must have brought images of history to his well-read mind. The poem personifies the rock as a witness to events through the centuries including the tragedy and mystery of the sinking of the Lusitania. The poem was brought to life when Shaun Davey composed music for it as part of the Béal Tuinne song cycle . Shaun never met my father , but he has captured exactly the spirit of his words.
@@eiliskennedymusic4796 This is so beautiful that it doesn't need translation!

Watching the concert right now!
Draíochtúil...
Heard you featured today while listening to ‘A Celtic Sojourn’ on my public radio station here in the US. I am absolutely charmed by your lovely voice and wonderfully heartfelt songs. It would be worth a trip to Ireland someday to hear you perform live.
Thank you for your lovely comment- I have great memories of performing in the US over the years and hope to do so again !Yes - a trip to Ireland is always worth it too - I guess more concerts will be possible when this crisis is past.Fingers crossed !
A great study in how to sing and play an accompaniment.
Thanks Andy . Its a pleasure to sing with Gerry
Beautiful song. This reminds me of the brief time I had whilst in Dingle, but also of the stories I read about the inhabitants of the Great Blasket Island, who were constantly rowing for their livelihoods, many times to their peril. And in this time of distress, we, too, need to "row on". Music like this helps with the journey.
Thank you ! My great grandfather was from the Great Blaskets. If you go to my Bandcamp page you will find a song I wrote about him called "the flannel Red " The story of his drowning and the chorus has a theme of rowing . It is on my previous CD Westward .
@@eiliskennedymusic4796 Brilliant. Cheers! I would love to hear your stories. I also have your CD with Pauline, just lovely.
@@albyjam check out “Westward “ my previous CD 😀
What more can one say except "Absolute Class”!!! Very sympathetically accompanied by Gerry as well. This the first year for 25 years I have not been in Dingle due to this damn pandemic and lord how I have missed the place and the people. I may be wrong (apologies if I am) but I am sure this lady sang a version of Crazy Man Michael once which absolutely blow me away and I have never forgotten that performance / experience / evening. All the best from overseas to all in Dingle, keep safe and well everyone until we meet again.
Thank you so much ! I look forward to meeting you next time and I will happily sing these songs ( And Crazy man Michael , too )
