    It's funny that Billy in this interview says he "made up his mind to have nothing to do with drugs or alcohol" but doesn't consider taking handfuls of LSD to have a negative impact on his life or emotional wellbeing.

    Nigga, you forget you wrote the leak bros album with tame one? I you might say you weren't glorifying drug use at that time and more writing down your experiences in an altered state. Honestly and it sucks to say, but that's was my favorite cage knowing the everlong struggle of knowing you can escape it all in a millisecond. Shit, em even wanted to be slim shady when you were actually truly living the mentally disturbed persona he glorified. You in OG in hip hop in my opinion, man. Don't let anyone ever tell ya differently. That shit let me know someone out there was going through a similar thought process as myself. You, Eyedea, Joe Budden and John Frusciante were the only ppl I've ever shared that experience of borderline insanity to most with, but you guys so gifted. I just had my first year clean off opiates in over decade and it's been the biggest weight off my shoulder that's ever been lifted. I know that real monster is me though as you said the drugs were never the real problem. Too many cop out to that in the new socially glorified rehabilitation phase of the journey. I hope you find or have found something worth dying for..

    I went to my first fall out boy show last night, and I was so happy afterwards that it's like everything clicked into place and I have a new perspective. I've been trying to cope with my mental health problems on my own and I've been lying to hide them from everyone around me for years. I could be so much happier if I just ask for help. I know this is a pretty old video, but I just wanted to share. wish me luck!

    That bit at the end when he said that it's paralysing like you can't leave the house and it immobilises you hit hard because that's exactly it and it's so hard to get other people to understand if they've never experienced it for themselves they will always think you're exaggerating or faking it but you would do anything to not feel it and be the way that you are anymore and just be normal and have normal thoughts and emotions that don't impact your life so much

    Thanks for talking about it, Pete. Genuinely, I feel so many of these same things, and have since 2005 or whatever. And I do feel alone. But then I go to a Fall Out Boy show and he touches my hand and for a split second there's a throughline of connection from the beginning to now, and then it doesn't matter how vast, empty and uncaring this place is, because _someone_ gets me.

      This was around 2005-07... I think the 2000s were really rough for him and I know he changed his diet often which makes me wonder if he lowkey had an eating disorder. He started gaining a lot of weight back around 2011-2012. I've heard speculation about other factors but it's obvious he was pretty unhappy after Zwan collapsed and the SP revival wasn't greeted with much positivity.

    Is this around the same time he reconnected with Courtney Love? I feel like that always seem to coincide with his major depressions, frankly people only connect with her when they are at their lowest (Cobain, Corgan, even Fielding). In Billy’s case I wonder if he was drawn to her damage and just got pulled too far down. Anyway, his words here are so profound I’m glad that he pulled through this and that he seems to be in a great place now.

    Never liked or trusted this guy. Also his music isn’t just from the heart, he puts too much thought into what he believes people want rather than what he really feels. He’s not a “from the heart” kinda guy, he thinks commercially and tried to guess what will make him money based on what he believes will be the next sell no point. Never liked his music or trusted him as a person. Imo lol

    • @werideatdusk
      @werideatdusk 10 месяцев назад

      This is true only to a point. His musical output is so voluminous and a lot of it was clearly made without that kind of pretense. His solo albums in particular are very sincere and unique, also the Pumpkins album Adore. Even his "commercial" hits like Today and Disarm are extremely raw. Now I do think his more recent output under the Pumpkins moniker has been clouded by commercial considerations, absolutely. But we are seeing more experimental fare on Cyr and Atum, alongside his more recent solo albums Ogilala and Cotillions which are definitely worth checking out.
