Making a Lambeg Drum (1960)
In this film from 1960 the 10 day process of making a Lambeg drum happens in 9 minutes. The clip is accompanied by traditional Orange tunes by Houl Yer Whisht.
The Lambeg drum has uncertain origins, although it is primarily associated with the Orange Order it was also used by the Hibernians. In some communities the same drummers would have played for both organisations. It is one of the world’s loudest acoustic instruments reaching a deafening 120dB. The large drum is worn with a neck harness and beaten with wooden cane drumsticks. It takes two she-goat skins with identical qualities to make one drum. Drummers still debate whether a painted or unpainted drum gives a purer sound and you can...

I’m ready to go back to Ireland again! It feels like home! The people are friendly and it is beautiful there!
There is no other. No one else like him. A true musical genius.
My goodness. This is magnificent. Thank you @scotinulster.
Just when I’m getting lost in Vans spiritual singing the lovely Kim Cattrall makes a discreet appearance! Just how good is that?
A single entity Ireland is on its way.
My great-granny was born there, I'm 1 century removed but this takes me back home.
@8:46 Kim Cattrell
I'm 61 and had Van playing as l brought my two children into this world, they've grown up with his music as their kids are now. ❤ from Australia 🇦🇺 2024.
One of the few times that I've seen him so comfortable and gregarious. Here he feels at home.

Bonar Law supported violent insurrection.
If the Unionists had treated the Catholic minority with any decency there would have been no Troubles. Orangism is bigotry!

Correct title: Northern Ireland vs Éire (Ireland): The Unification Question
@Cicero1690 It is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, not the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ulster
@Cicero1690 It will stay that way if the majority feels it, you also have to accept if it ends
God’s gift to mankind. Thank you Jesus
Good share!
My Dad … Stanley Hewitt Cars in zLisburn supplied Davy his car. I got to drive it and because I was only 5 at the time, Dad used me as the template when doing the alterations to Pedal lengths for Davy 😢
Genuinely deport the planters back home to Scotland and Northern England 🇮🇪🇮🇪
Are you actually this dumb? do you know the meaning of the national flag 🟩⬜️🟧?
Aah yes and this ahem " Ulster" only actually comprised 6 of the 9 cos. Monaghan Cavan and Donegal are as much " Ulster" as the others and Craig wouldnt take them when offered cos to do so would then mean 52% Unionist, 48% Nationalist. So he only took the 6: thus 66%U, 34%N. Thus a 2 to 1 safe majority. And even with that clear majority, he then did away with PR, brought in blatant gerrymandering in local govt boundaries, blatent discrimination in housing and jobs, the Special Powers Act and even (tho the then RUC said was unenforceable) the infamous Flags and Emblems Act. Ah yes what a great time that was..!!
That's my Nana's uncle
The only time is now
part of the reason why this becomes so magical is perhaps that Van is improvising part of the lyrics. He creates it there and then. the audience senses that

The UK was never 8 centuries old. It barely lasted 100 years.
I think what the narrator was saying is that britain and ireland had been together since the norman invasion of ireland in 1169 under the crown of england with 2 separate parliaments under the act of union in 1801, and what do you mean the UK barely lasted 100 years? it's been around since 1707 when Scotland abolished their parliament and joined the British parliament it became the uk properly in 1801 and most of ireland left in 1922 but the uk still survives.
@@Manwithnoname2 The UK of Britain and Ireland was a separate entity.
