One Page Rules Grimdark Future Lore: The Wormhole Incident.
I wrote my Starhost as rebels against the Frog-mages. They believe that the creation of the saurians is a myth and lie created by the frog-mages to rule them. They are abberants who instead believe they were created by their god Sotek, Who demands flesh to satiate him. What Sotek is a mystery but he has blessed certain Saurians with enhanced strength and brutal cunning. The Starhost is mostly self serving. Focused on defending its own planets and going on hunts for sacrifices to Sotek
Does it say anything about the daemons size in the lore? I would assume even the grunts are 8-10ft tall but the official OPR models has them at about 5ft.
Clearly reading a chatgpt script for us. Boo
The Alien Hives to me suffer from OPR trying to mesh two goals: they want every faction based on GW factions to have GW model compatibility but also want them to be very clearly distinct from the corresponding GW faction. And the issue is that the T****ids' lore is 'they are all-consuming space locusts with no further subtlety or nuance' and their models very clearly match that.
It sounds like the Ratmen and the Blessed Sisters have a lot of mutual enemies and compatible goals.
Honestly this lore doesn't really hold up to it's 40k contrapart. Most 40k factions are a mix opposites, illogical and ironic things. Like the Mechanicus, guys who relie on belief even tho they are all about machines and should be about logic. Or the Necrons that are robots that can heal, one thing that's a universal flaw or robots. Same with the gene stealers, they are presented as guerillas fighting for freedom, but they in fact fight just to get eaten by their masters
Genestealers being a sub-faction of the Tyranids was a later addition to their lore.
Pretty enticing lore ngl
There we are, the man is alive after all, whew
And glad to be here!
Nice mini.
Painting along with you in post production. Thanks for a video. Hope you get more time soon.
What are you painting?
I got up at 2 to be at work by 3. I went to bed at 8. I turn 50 next year. It doesn't get easier I'm a truck driver, sleep is the most important. Listening while driving down the interstate.
Time is a tricky mistress. Sleep is so important and yet I desire to stay awake
Not sure they are comparable. It's a bit like comparing a marvel movie to a DnD game. In opr I like that the factions are balanced and there is room to put in your own creativity. If I want to play a planet of clown suited ratmen intent of bringing laughs and ice cream to the galaxy I can. 40k lore feels human centric, and if you play aeldari, orcs or tau can feel like they're there as a punching bag for space marines
The narrator sounds like a butt
Great video as always.
Been missing your videos. Hope you are doing well.
I have been missing my videos as well. I am doing well, hoping to get back at it soon.
Tf
I'll adjust my orc clans homebrew faction according to your lore.
When the orcs are space humans
This right here! This might be the best way to put it!
For the algorithm
Your right that this really isnt a fair fight, but ive just reached a point in my life where ill happily take the somewhat lighter take from OPR over anything that GW puts out. Its hard to look around these days without seeing the the grimdark in our own world. OPR lets me escape from that. If only for a bit.
Do they have Ratmen Grimdark Models? I don't remember seeing any
Toaster! 😅
So what you mean is... The God of the sisters wasn't a super-atheist asshole in this one, but a very scary motherly figure who became a God, but did not refuse the title, because she accepted that her people were happy with a religion? I like this... Imagine how horrible it would be if the sisters actually worshipped the founder and he kept telling everyone he is not a God but everyone kept worshipping him anyway for some stupid reason... I don't know where I got that from though...
So the Sirius Age would be a better name. As it seems more DS9 style of Star Trek then Warhammer 40k
I really like the idea of DS9 style lore/name. Maybe Age of Sirius? It would match Age of Fantasy then
OPR makes their worlds more appealing, characters and factions more nuanced with greater emphasis on moral grey area, unlike Warhammer-CU with their noble action heroes of Imperium (aside from occasional reaction of GW whenever somebody points out that their heroes and their God-Emperor resemble strongly some RL groups with nefarious past) fighting either comically moronic and inept foes (most of the Xenos) or moustache-twirling comic-book villains (some Xenos + Chaos). While with some of the factions of OPR I do have some issues (Mummified Undead and Ghostly Undead will take some work in homebrew-lore department to make them more appealing to my personal ideals) others, including Ratmen (in both settings, turning them from backstabbing one-dimensional evil to creatures that just want to live and are willing to coexist with others), Beastmen (similar to Ratmen) and Alien Hives and Soul-snatcher Cults (again, from one-dimensional destroyer force to faction full of characters). Best thing? All official lore are just very loose guidelines - go ahead and create your completely unique faction with unique culture, ideals and characters. Can Warhammer even try to compete in that department?
With a name like "inner shere" i would expect a heavy mech based millitary.
Havoc should go steamrolling the Sector taken one planet after planet and meanwhile try to keep other faction away from then by pretending they are weak because the lack of unity among their ranks.
I hope that, as the lore expands, you keep the old videos up on your channel.
I am planning on it. I will add the version number to the video titles to make it easy to see how things changed
Looking forward to getting models of these whenever that'll be
on the jackels the plannet doesn't have to kill technology to make ships crash, it could be a navagation thing, a specific reaction or something that works on scale ie a medium power source is fine but anything like a city size reactor would cause issues (or ships)
I really like this explanation. I just think it is interesting that their army doesn't have any vehicles and if their planet allows for that type of technology then what is the reason.
The jackals atmosphere keeps ships from entering and exiting the planet, hence the need for the jump gate. Technology works on the planet.
Thank you for clearing this up. I will address this very point on the next live stream.
Huh i always read it as Ser-us sector not serious.
I did originally as well, but when I put it into google it said serious. So that is why I read it that way.
That was fun :) It's a shame my mic wasn't working, made me look like a dork in front of the ENTIRE SIRIUS SECTOR 🤬🤬🤬 But I wasn't expecting to be given the opportunity to participate and nothing was even plugged in, lol. Maybe next time!
Sad the Alien Hives got as low as they did. I think I saw them as the most Alien in the philosophical sense where there motives and morals were just difficult to parse on initial understanding rather than physical appearance or ability. Like while most advanced societies take the INT based approach to interstellar travel (understanding physical properties of the universe, engines, fuels etc.) the alien hives took the WIS based approach where they became so adept in more abstract endeavors that they could cultivate a relationship with the universe rather than understand it in a traditional sense. Like an Alien Hive doesn't understand the fine detailed vectors and calculations required for a giant space whale to maneuver across a bunch of vast distances in space, but they could foster a relationship with a space whale well enough to that he could be of use to them for their own ends and means while he travels the fine detailed vectors required for space travel with ease.
These are some great points! If you are willing I would love to have you present these points on the next live stream. At the very least I will read this comment on the next stream and you can send more chats about it.
Thanks for uploading, I didn’t want to miss this, but I had a long workday today
I mean, the Battle Brothers are also, like, pretty evil -- they were chasing down fleeing colonists, and the Founder was really just some lunatic dictator with delusions of godhood.
They are pretty evil, but in their credit they would have let the colonists go if it wasn’t for the flagship.
Dude i love your video, I love your jokes I love your energy I love your memes, and I love the efort you put in this video, like and subscribe. “”Siga echando punta”” “keep going”
Also… nice voice.
Thank you very much! This was my first real attempt at writing a primarily silly video, so the fact that it landed at all is huge. I hope to continue to earn your attention.
Objection! (I'm about to trash 40k a bit here on a channel probably founded and inhabited by 40k fans, so bear with me and don't ratio me to death) The 40k lore is certainly _wide_ but is it _deep_ ?? There's something here about the tree-climbing contest between a monkey and a fish. Which doesn't feel fair. How _good_ is the avarage 40K story? If we are gonna compare a massive empire of a franchise to a new tiny equivalent, we should more generously weight things like cohesiveness, clarity, prose. In skillful hands, a personal diminutive project could probably be polished into a tight, perfectly cut gem compared to a mountain of boulders, ores and minerals of various qualities. Even if the later is technically more valuable, we should judge quality per weight, or... in this case, per page.
Based on what you said maybe I could do a test where I take a random page of a random novel from 40k and compare it to a random page of a random story from GDF and compare the two. That way I am comparing apples to apples!
@@One_More_Page That sounds... pretty fun actually.
Maybe I should do a short video of just very that!
I go to warhammer for the lore, and OPR to play out that lore since GW sucks at making games now.
That is a very common sentiment. A lot of people on the Reddit side of the community really don’t like the idea of OPR lore at all for that very same reason.
I like OPR, I use that and 3-D printed models because GW can suck it with their prices.
It was a sad day when I realized that it was cheaper to buy a 3d printer, buy the resin, buy the wash station, buy the 3d modeling software, and 3d model my zerg army than it was to get a tyranid army.
That does go insanely hard for some space orc lore 😱 with your given enthusiasm, have you considered entering one of the OPR writing jams?
I have done a couple of the writing jams and did pretty well. They are rather restrictive because of the single page length.
@@One_More_Page yeah that’s what I figured lol
I bought the £100 veer-myn army box from mantic games. 3.5k points in grimdark future terms. Now thats bang for your buck.
That is some crazy value!
@@One_More_Page ikr?? If it was from gw I would be getting like 1/3 of the models. Then again they don’t do ratmen in space… yet…
Warhammer 40K has more than 3 decades of lore, why would anybody be surprised?
Some people have been surprised, which makes sense. I am a OPR lore channel.
40k lore is good but the heavy grimdark nature gets a little ridiculous and they tend to forget that certain factions exist and are way more dangerous then they realize while with grimdark its grimdark to a logical extreme and that's it
They have painted themselves into a corner with the deadliness of their factions. It is as if they thought adding more galaxy threatening factions would solve their galaxy threatening problems.
@@One_More_Page lol exactly and that's on top of the fact that some factions like necrons get major retcons in every edition to the point that they're practically a new faction. While with opr their lore may not be as detailed but it's enough that we know the faction and how they work and what they're about.
Podcast of just the audio so I can listen at work
That is an interesting idea. I will have to look into this
Good job. Waiting for part 2
Thank you very much!
