An awardee of the American Presidential medal of Freedom,Angelou penned poems that have been called the anthems of African-Americans. This poem is all about Self belief and Hope... Hope..that rises like a blazing sun from the dark,bleak and foreboding clouds of wretchedness,misery and hurt.. Self belief that kept millions of African-american hearts ticking, in an era of gross civil rights violations and oppression.. Now lets take a listen to the poem..

hii..thank you for ur kind words. sooo humbling to hear that i could be of some help.. i will tell u some tips (that i had shared earlier also in replying to someone)that i use in my speeches 1)make ur speech as much different frm others as possible..make it StandOut.. 2)Never start with ..Respected teachers,judges..my topic today..9 out of 10 kids are going to use this line 3)start speech with a personal story,a shocking fact/ statistics or a question that gets audience hooked ..then ease into the address.. 4)make 3 parts of ur speech distinct..Intro,Body and conclusion.. conclude with passion and a punch line or a question that will linger on..change voice depth and power often to bring the impact. 5)add one or two moments of fun and family emotion ..if possible from ur personal experiences or experiences that local audience n judges can relate.. 6) a good speech is right mix of fun..facts ..emotion..and short powerful punch lines in between. 7)make it as personal as you can..include incidents in school if possible 8)give pauses where u want ur point to sink in ..rise and lower voice as necessary 9) i think writing is a very important part..u can only b as good as ur script make multiple drafts ..correct..edit..reedit till u feel its a right mix..practice with timer as many times as possible..i remember practicing some speeches upto 25 times Thats a lot of stuff i guess..there r so many things to look at whn u write and deliver a speech. I dont know ur age..ur speech style depends on ur age and ur target audience. A quick example of intro for a topic one subscriber had asked.."The world is one famiy" Hello everyone Let me ask you something..Hv u seen the pics of earth taken from space? Yes? (pause a sec for effect.) Now ..hv u seen any borders between countries on those pics? I couldnt find any..i m sure,neither can you... Ladies and gentlemen(voice up) The world is one family..(slight pause) it WAS one ..i firmly beleive it IS still one and i fervently hope it WILL remain one for generations to come. Now say the body of your speech..find stuff from internet..add Vasudhaiva kudumbakam.. conclude with some punchlines or pledge. just a quick example. With my hard work, I got selected for regionals by winning in zonal. It would be such a pleasure to me if you guide me with it like - what is declamation, what are the judging criteria, how to win the competition by outsmarting others, and how to be extraordinary. Can I choose Maya Angelou's Still I Rise for declamation? Or is it only for poem recitation..

congrats..to the best of my knowledge you do not recite a poem for Declamation..i feel even if its allowed,it wont be effective..It can be a speech or an act from a play..and it is done in the most effective and powerful way possible, throwing in emotions and punches..voice modulations are very important as well as the diction.. I had done a declamation for a competition which got me first prize..i did Ophelia mad scene..i had uploaded the video in the channel..i will leave the link here..adjust the time to fit your slot..and check the exact rules of your competition(what do they expect and judging criteria)before you decide.
