Americans are so dumb they think this is smart! English isn't even my first language and I didn't find anything impressive about her speech. She is eloquent, certainly but that says nothing about how smart she is. She's saying pretty basic things here. Absolutely nothing about anything she spoke tells you that she has a very unique thought pattern or pointed out something that not many people realise or know. She said the most basic sht in a better language than most Americans use.

Only because she is using terms that arent in the everyday spectrum of "an average" american, it doesnt mean that she is more intelligent than others. Yes it can be viewed as impressive but language is there to communicate. So just in my opinion, language is a tool to exchange ideas , concepts and needs with one another. For that reason, if you can explain or portrait something as simple as possible for the other to understand without diminishing the actual important content of your conversation, that is the best option. Only because you use more "rare/ complicated" terms, it doesnt make you more intelligent. Sure use them, but only if it is for the sake of the content/ the communication, not to use complicated words or to come across as intelligent..

All she does is throw in "sophisticated" words (which are not really sophisticated) and people get impressed. Using words that you memorized out of a dictionary is not an indicator of intelligence. Critical Thinking is. The only thing that this video shows is that the American educational system is failing.

When was her age was stressing about school so much I was glad I was out of it by 18. Some people really like to learn in or outside of school. Others like me and possibly you just want to do something that uses our strengths and skills.

Her words aren’t too big, she simply has a great vocabulary and uses exactly the right words for what she wants to communicate. There are many other people in the industry who are able to have a proper conversation with her, the only difference is that she is probably one of the most of not the most eloquent person they have ever encountered: she forms proper phrases and responses faster than others without much difficulty, in addition to her week thought vocabulary it makes others perceive her as smart and out of their league and in some sense they are right because she is incredibly smart and educated. Speech eloquence is also one of the main traits of many top universities students (she recently graduated from Harvard and was accepted in about 7 others) and she masters in that. It is so important that many literally study it. She is quite easy to understand, people just need to pause for a few seconds before replying because she is quite fluent in her speech but she doesn’t talk about complex matters at all. Many celebrities and non celebrities could understand and have an actual conversation with her but they are a little intimidated and surprised by her. The ones in this video were disrespectful though: -If I had a conversation with you at 18-When I was 17- They are professional interviewers,they should know better that it isn’t exactly a comfortable thing to say right after she talked. They can but not that way. Maybe they could have ended the interviews with “You know, it has been a pleasure having you on the show, when I was your age I wasn’t half as eloquent as you and so it’s nice seeing a promising young woman so eager to talk about such matters on my show”. THAT would have hit different! By the way I am 18 years old(actually I saw this video at 16 for the first time) and I have never been in an anglophone country. I feel like if I heard it in my language, I would have understood even faster than I did, so they have less excuses than her.

At such a ripe age she is intelligent enough to be an actor, going to Harvard, having her own company, and the many other things she is juggling while mapping out her entire future is the impressive part. There is only a handful of teens in this entire word with these accomplishments. As far as the words Oprah is referring too, a lot of teens may know these words, but how many are actually using them in casual conversations? How many interviews have you seen a young actor speak this way? She can have all the props!!
