    Dude the new Century album fuckin kicks ass! It's right up there close with the debut for me too but I need to spend a little more time with it before I put it on the same level. Have you heard of a band called Diabolic Night? Really awesome blackened speed metal band out of Germany. Excellent guitar work on both LPs. They also have really badass album cover art.

    I truly value that you keep mentioning and appreciating Power Metal. Found a lot of hidden gems thanks to you! And I had a feeling I'd see Häxkapell here haha 🍻I absolutely adore this record. The other day while driving I found myself replaying "Metamorfos" over and over again cause I can't get enough of that infectious middle part! Same goes for that majestic closing track! Other new albums I've enjoyed a lot this month are Bloodbark - Sacred Sound of Solitude Geistlicht - Unburied Remnants Of The Ancients Wynter Myst - Cold Hatred (EP) Harvst - Mahlstrom

    Haha, when I saw Feel the Steel album cover, I thought it was a synthwave album! 😀Stellar list as usual. Many interesting releases to explore. I've heard Sarcator and Hesperia, seem like very good albums but I'll need several more listens to digest them. By the way I was amazed how strong this January was, maybe strongest January in recent years. Some of my favorite albums: WORLDFALL - Psychotic Break / Good, fun thrash with some melodeath and power metal tendencies here and there. LUNARES TENEBRIS - Living for Honour and Eternal Glory / Great melodic black metal, it's got classic mid-paced black metal riffing and stellar keyboards. ROSARY - The Broken Sacrament / Fans of old Candlemass, Saint Vitus, Trouble etc... will love this release. STEEL MACHINE - Deliverer of Sin / These guys cherish old school hard rock, heavy metal and speed metal. Blasting fun album. CENTURY - Sign of the Storm / Of course it's on the list, I could barely wait for the release date. Prime heavy/speed album. PENTAGRAM - Lightning in the Bottle / Legendary band, I'm pleased to say I enjoy this a lot. Get better with each listen. CRIMSON STORM - Livin' on the Bad Side / Another classic heavy/speed album. Loved it instantly, it's damn great! IRON JAW - Cursed / This is basically the next incarnation of Judas Priest :D Absolutely loving it! THE HALO EFFECT - March of the Unheard / I am constantly amazed how easy this album is to get through. One can listen to it 3-4 times in a row without realizing it. Catchy, anthemic melodic death metal. Easily my favorite January release, for the sheer number of listens if nothing else 😀 Cheers!

      haha ya that Feel the Steel cover is very retro, the guy is definitely going for a very specific vibe! Totally agree on it being a strong January. In the past I remember having trouble even coming up with 10 albums that are worth checking out for a January, but here I could have easily done 20 or more. Great start to the year! I've been having a break from new music in january, but I did check out one band/album, and that's Häxkapell. Fun to see them high up on your list, as I quite liked it myself as well! Listening to Häxkapell also lead me to check out another band on their label, namely Eneferens (album: In the hours beneath) which I liked just as much. It's not a 2025 release though. I was really close to ordering both a couple of weeks ago, but I still haven't pulled the trigger.

    Hesperia is a cool journey! I too felt a lot of old Satyricon, and also Ulver - Bergtatt. Gotta check out Master Spy; I can never have too much power metal. Typically I only get 5-10 albums each month, so it will be a short list. Five January albums that I like: Dragonknight - Legions (Power Metal) Hesperia - Fra Li Monti Sibillini (Black Medieval Winter Over The Sibylline Mounts) (Black/Folk Metal) Häxkapell - Om Jordens Blod Och Urgravens Grepp (Black Metal - Oh, "Häx" can be pronounced like "Hex" :) Kilmara - Journey To The Sun (Power Metal) Wildness - Avenger (Hard Rock/AOR) There's more, such as Halo Effect and Wardruna, but I need more time with those. It's nice to get back in time isn't it ? :) Stormlord was one of the blasts from 2020 according to a lot of people. I still could not get into the album even if I have it for more than a year... On paper everything is here to please me but still I can't remember anything of the several listenning I had with this record... I just know it was not unpleasant ! I will try again ! The Vehemence was a bit disapointed for me... The first song and first single was a masterpiece ! Really... But all the rest of the album looks a bit down quality speaking. Not a bad opus for sure but I think I was expecting more from the band. The Moonlight Sorcery EP was the exact contrary of Stormlord. Not the same kind of melodic black Metal for sure but I really loved this EP. I even made a video about it ! Regarding 2020 my best albums from this year was...... the one from Vanden Plas... Yeah not really original from me but I'm a huge fan of this band and I really love everything they release... Top 2 was for Ayreon, great disc from Lucassen once again. And top 3 the masterpiece Under A Goddess Veil from Draconian... Amazing record, deep, full of strengh, heavy... Now I'm thinking about it after all these years I'm thinking maybe it would deserve to be at the second position. Definitely. Maybe even Top 1... Well no... Vanden Plas :)

    I think that for Heavy metal it`s a Stray Gods (Greece) - Olympus. Even though it is an Iron Maiden clone, the level that was reached in 1986 was so high that to make an album that matches that level means that they are above most modern metal bands.

    Noticed that big chunk of your picks are those battle hymns, fantasy epic black/power metal names while I'm more into the traditional bleak, cold, oppressive black/doom/death/sludge metal. My favorite album this decade is probably 2020 Grifteskymfning with "Svart Materia"

  • @nightdrive89
    @nightdrive89 11 дней назад

    And people say no one makes good music anymore... I haven't heard Eternity's End, but I'll check it out. From 20-24, I think my favourite power metal album is one I discovered last year: Hopes Of Freedom - Light, Fire & Iron (2021). Epic, catchy, and beautiful music. Bonus points for using bagpipes! Sticking to France, I'd also pick Belore. Artefacts (2021) is one of those rare albums I'll hold on to forever. It's just stunningly wonderful. Finally, I'll go with an odd one: Valkeat - Fireborn (2023). It's Finnish folk metal that varies from traditional to big and cinematic. The album is definitely not for everyone, but it became one of my most played in '23. I love listening to it outdoors during bright summer nights. And a question, have you heard Torian - God Of Storms (2018)? I keep thinking of this album when I listen to Thornbridge

    Hi Graham I was at a loose end so thought I'd have a go at this, hope you can find 5 minutes for a quick scan! •Hype : New AVATARIUM album (next week!) •25th Album: A fairly new one in my metal collection, AD INFINITUM "Abyss" •Overdue: Not that old, but finally got round to NWOTHM band ENFORCER •Feeding Monkey: Like you, cheapest I can find! •Enigma : UK band THE WILDHEARTS - is it metal, power-pop, punk, thrash... all of the above! New album Satanic Rites of The Wildhearts coming out in a couple of months •Eating Crow - nothing springs to mind • Impulse : actually, the new IOTUNN album • Collectors scum : again, like yourself, only usually hang on to one copy of anything • Grail : Really only get new releases these days. •Grail, Please Find! Hmm... actually, this would come from my AOR loving alter ego, possibly the 2 BREATHLESS albums from around 1980... •Boomerang: n/a I only get rid of things very rarely and they never come back •Reunion : Another headscratcher, but possibly RIOT... really like the new Riot V album, despite there being no original members left... •Upstart : SAVAGE OATH Divine Battle •Influencer : IRONFLAME Kingdom Torn Asunder (Sea of Tranquility review, but I vaguely remember you mentioning it too!) •Don't Judge A Book : PANTERA I Am The Night (my favourite Pantera album with album art by a 3rd grader) •Rembrandt : MAGNUM On A Storyteller's Night, art by Rodney Matthews, legend! •Please Reissue : probably those BREATHLESS albums from before... •Other genre : I've been banging on to anyone that will listen about the 2024 album by BOBBIE DAZZLE, "Fandabidozi", a female fronted British act that pays homage to and sounds like a mixture of The Runaways, Suzi Quatro, The Sweet, The New York Dolls, T Rex and 70s Slade and Status Quo. Fun with a capital F. •See live : Bobbie Dazzle actually! Plus Epica are rumored to be releasing a new album and I haven't yet had the pleasure of a live encounter... •2 other channels Don't watch many regularly, but Sea Of Tranquility is my main other go to, and you'd find a lot of common ground with a Scottish channel, The Heavy Metal Journal, which does mostly your kind of very heavy thing, Lindsay, the young lady who presents it, introduced me to some great Scottish stuff like SAOR and, more recently, Hand Of Kalliach and Sgaile, bearably growly for me and musically mind expanding stuff... Well, that passed the time! Take care, mate and happy listening!
