Fyi, "M" was the initial of the first head of the British Secret Intelligence Service, and ever since then every head man or woman has been known as "M". Most of the characters were real people, for instance, the young blond guy where Gus March-Phillips was interviewed, named Ian Fleming became an author after the war, and wrote a series of books about an SIS (MI6) agent called James Bond, whose boss was called "M". The objective of the mission, and the outcome are real, but the film is highly dramaticized, no one on either side died during the mission.

If you want another movie that deals with racism in the 1950s there's Sidney Poitier's first lead role movie (though annoyingly they put him on the 'also starring page during the opening credits) 'No Way Out' - same title as a Gene hackman movie form the 80s but the plots have nothing in common. He plays a doctor who's just started work at a hospital, he's tending to two racist brothers who just got injured in an attempted robbery and one brother dies while he's treating him for a suspected brain tumour, so the other brother starts accusing him of killing him because of what he'd said to him.

Thinking of checking out the original from the 1930s? The actress playing the daughter int hat movie actually was light-skinned African American and she refused to pass for white in red life. Just as a comparison point.

The version of Harry that you and everyone else like so much, when he's under the influence of Felix Felicis, that's what Harry is like in the books most of the time. Harry in the movies is boring by comparison.

You may not look at these comments i hope you see this. This movie is extremely accurate to Malcolm's life. The only things they changed for the movie as brother banes character saving him in prison when in real life that was another person and west indian archies character also being Malcolm's criminal mentor if you will when in real life that was a few different people. Other than that they changed virtually nothing from his autobiography except dropping things that didnt matter as much to the story like more details about his childhood with his mother, more about his time with thoes foster parents, moving to boston and living with his sister, and how he didn’t like the black elites of that area who his sister was one, how he met laura and other intresting details that would have thrown off the pacing if they kept in. If you enjoy reading and learning more i can not recommend his autobiography enough. Although you may not find any major difference between the book and the movie like you may in many biopics, the book adds so much detail, context and expands on Malcolm's thoughts about many issues

I love this movie. Also, even if certain scenes were not 100% historically accurate to these characters, they were historically accurate to the laws of segregation that existed in America's past. I think it was important for them to include those details in this movie so that generations born after that time more fully understand the climate of the racial (and sexual) divide at that time. I think you might enjoy the movie "Amistad" .

I think Lord Elrond is not facing the arrows at the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring, the arrows that pass his ear are from his own archers. might be mistaken but I always thought that by the way his hair moves and the fact that they have archers.

Classic Who is much more gruesome and sinister than New Who. This story terrified me as a child especially the man’s head in the Dalek machine. Pretty bleak morbid stuff. Colin Baker is vastly underrated. Always loved him. The DJ was supposed to be over the top and so annoying that even Davros wanted him exterminated 😂 Great reaction.

The naming of the people who operate the machines becoming, over time, the name of the machine itself, is not unique to this story. Originally the people who used the new-fangled typewriters were called "typewriters" and only later became known as "typists." PS - I had to learn Fortran in those early days of computing. What seems so cumbersome (in all regards) in retrospect was so astonishing at the time. Around 1970, the computer at my college filled the entire basement. It was powered by vacuum tubes, which are basically like light bulbs with an additional element inside, and so gave off astonishing amounts of heat, so the whole facility had to be greatly air-conditioned. In the movie Apollo 13, which takes place a decade later, they were bragging that they had gotten a computer down to just one room. (PPS - in the era of this movie, the term "main-frame" - as opposed to personal computers - was unknown as it was unnecessary. There was only one type of computer back then.

This is a very good movie in a lot of ways, and the story they are trying to tell is an incredibly important one for folks to know. However, it would have been a much better movie if they had told the story more the way it actually happened. Historians and film critics have noted the many things that the film showed that did not happen, as well as others that happened at different times and/or in different ways. I appreciate that it is not meant to be documentary, but the issues involved in the REAL story of the calculators who were black women are too important to depict them in the inaccurate ways they are shown. Examples include the fact that, in 1958, when NACA became NASA, segregated facilities, including the West Computing office, were abolished...and the scene where a coffeepot labeled "colored" appears in Katherine Johnson's workplace did not happen in real life. Also, the two primary antagonists of the film...Kirsten Dunst's supervisor character and Jim Parsons' Paul Stafford character...both did not exist, not to mention the fact that Mary Jackson did not have to get a court order to attend night classes at the whites-only high school. I hope that you will do your own research to see what the makers of the film got right and what they exaggerated or just added in for their own purposes. There is a section about the historical accuracy of the movie on Wiki, and there is also a good article on History vs Hollywood that covers the movie's accuracy.

In the first movie he wasn't asking for permission as in "Can i do this ?" It was mote so reassurance he was doing the right thing going back into that world.

I've seen this story in reverse. Whereby an interracial child had the same attitude and rejection towards her white mother. it was a very sad thing to watch especially seeing the mother only wanting the best for her child. However, I absolutely enjoyed your reaction and review of this film, and your heartfelt expressions were so genuine.

Denzel had a knack for saving his best for movies based on True Events and characters. You have done 2 of his top 5. So #3 "ANTWONE FISHER" "#4 "UNSTOPPABLE" #5 "AMERICAN GANGSTER" #6 REMEMBER THE TITANS " (My personnal favorite because it all happened about 20 miles from where I was growing up across the Potomac River in Maryland. Titan fever carried over into the camp of the NFL Washington Redskins who caught fire in mid-season and became the least likely NFC opponent to face the UNDEFEATED MIAMI DOLPHINS in Super Bowl VII. The only game Miami scored fewer than 20 points all season. Miami 14 vs Washington 7. But the movie was not all about HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL. It was the beginning of the end of School Segregation in America. #7 "JOHN Q." may not have been a true story. But it was a big factor in getting THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT. passed in the Senate. Others "DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS" "COURAGE UNDER FIRE" "CRIMSON TIDE" (He was overshadowed by one of GENE HACKETT'S best performances.) "PHILADELPHIA" w/ TOM HANKS . And finally for now "THE BOOK OF ELI" A thriller/action/ mystery from beginning to end. w/ Mila Kunis doing a fine non-comedy role as a young actress.

If this had been a true event, Rose couldn't do anything with the diamond. Carson Hockley 's father filed an insurance claim for the diamond. The insurance fraud/scandal that would have insued.

I must say, I really appreciate your take on this.The criticism against and admittedly voicing what you did or didn't know. As a native black american, to hear a different perspective is unheard of. Because so much in this country is black/white. So, I appreciate your perspective and you gained a subscriber. ❤

Not showing any kind of reaction/consequence to Princess Rhaena just peacing out after a dragon aggravates me. And what about her obligation to the 3 little boys, her cousin and half-brothers?! It's this kind of lazy writing that gets on my nerves.

Court scene: He didn't mean it was LITERALLY a crime to sleep with white women. He means that because the racist judge knew they were doing it he threw the book at them for the other crimes they committed.

Yes, Denzel took a serious method approach in portraying Malcolm; Denzel spent plenty of time with Malcolm's siblings, took on a Muslim diet and learned Arabic. Still the most controversial robberies of the Oscars snubbing Denzel in 1992 despite being nominated.

Maybe an odd time of year to be watching a Christmas movie reaction but thank you for checking this one out. It’s hard to watch without tearing up and often a good reminder to those of us who didn’t end up with the life we think we wanted.

“He put a pistol in his mouth that year” is a line in all the reactions I’ve seen met with “couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy” Though I hear there was a version of the scene where Cal was looking for Rose on the Carpathia and finds her. He apologizes for everything, swearing to be better, etc since, yaknow… after everything, seeing that many people die, stuck in silence for hours in a boat, somehow being one of the people who survived… after the rush of getting out there are now 2 hours of silence for all of it to hit you, everything that led to you being on a boat you shouldn’t have and losing someone who should have been. That changes a person, but Cal seeming to take that turn, hopefully being a better husband to any future wife than he ever would’ve been to Rose, her rejecting him, bd him accepting it without even trying to get the diamond back it feels a but too much. There was then one deleted version though where Cal still wasn’t able to find her but was a lot more broken up about it that I think could’ve worked as a good conclusion to his character.

This is the sixth incarnation of the Doctor Colin Baker from 1984 to 1986 he goes down on record as being one of the most unpopular Doctors of all time atleast for Classic Who even though no fault to the actor but how his Doctor was being written and the most overly violent and gruesome era which the BBC received alot of complaints in the 80's because it was scaring the kids and was not suited for family viewing Colin's Doctor is often described as rude and abrasive due to his regeneration crisis and also having the worst costume out of any Doctor. This was where the beginning of the end of Dr. Who started the 80's were a rocky period for the show. In answer to your question no Tom Baker and Colin Baker are not related they just share the same surname. Peri is suppose to be american but in reality her actress Nicola Bryant was british putting on an american accent for her character which none of the cast and crew were aware of until her rehearsul and was thought to be a real american but was asked to keep the accent her character Peri is short for Perpugilliam. The actor who plays the DJ is Alexi Sayle who was a popular british comedian at that time he was largely best known for the 1980's BBC british sitcom called "The Young Ones". For a first time watcher I would had been inclined to watch the original version first instead of the special edition just to get a glimpse what 80's effects was like and how it was made and watched. Also continuity was not a big issue back then people just sat down and enjoyed the story. The actor who plays Jobel the man with the wig you may recognise him as Mr. Copper from one of the David Tennant episodes the christmas special "Voyage of the Damned".
