    I like infinite storage. Vents usually produce way more water than you can consume, and having a few hundred (thousand) kilograms of Hydrogen backed up is REALLY REALLY NICE when you hit lategame and you need an asston of that stuff to make Liquid Hydrogen Fuel out of. Although I admit this is a small benefit, all things considered. The other benefit is that your water vents might overpressure... so you store water in tanks, which cost metal. The stored water in the tanks is then slowly drained out during the period that the vent is dormant. The tanks are therefore a metal-hungry buffer. Better to buffer the oxygen itself in the room, which requires no metal. Having a SPOM continuously running also flattens out your power demands over time instead of spiking them sometimes and forcing backup generators to kick on.

    I'm experimenting with a 3-tile high build for farms and I see potential for this build to be compressed into that form factor as well. given that the auto-sweepers span 9 tiles wide, your hatch ranching pen should be able to handle an extra tile of space without a significant increase in rancher grooming time. I'm having difficulty past the mid-game at the moment, and have made a full restart to test this theory out. As it should allow me to squeeze in an extra 2 farms/stables to the starting biome layout, allowing me to float an extra 5 dupes in the early game fairly easily. I'll let you know what I find.

      I’d love to hear how it works out! 👍

    • @MrNeCr01
      @MrNeCr01 2 дня назад

      @engineertroy_ I gave up on it for the ranch mostly because the hatches can jump over the 2nd door, but it's working great for the farms. I can fit 5 farms in a space that previously only fit 4, and the extra length makes it effectively 6 farms worth, even with an airflow tile every 7 to mitigate CO2 pooling. I no longer have to micromanage them just to maintain 15 dupes and can easily float 5 more on top of it. I'm already full up on sunbugs too, so I don't need artificial light either.

    Personally I'd skip your incubation room, I just have several unpowered incubators set to a high priority, however, I love the idea of the mech. air lock to "clean out" the room before you get access to sweepers ! Thanks for the video was a very good tutorial !

    Can someone please write the settings of the loaders? Great vid but I really got confused on the loaders, all of them

    • @engineertroy_
      @engineertroy_ 2 дня назад

      Check out 10:30 for the loader settings. Here’s a recap: Incubation room loader is set to reed fiber, meat, plastic, eggshells. Top left Drecko ranch loader is sent to all drecko eggs. Top right drecko ranch is set to reed fiber, phosphate, meat. The evolution chamber loader is set to except everything except the eggs you want to evolve. Hope that helps! Sorry for the delayed response. Thanks for the comment!

    8:15 When I'm setting up a layer of water like this, I usually have a 3 tile wide 'floor' with one side open as a 'cliff' to let water pour off. After 1 bottle of water emptied on that floor and the water stops spilling of the cliff, build a block on the 3rd floor tile on the edge of cliff (leaving a 2 tile floor). This pushes the water on the 3rd tile back over to the 2 tile floor and it'll be the perfect amount of water for infinite gas storage setup.

  • @brockormond4131
    @brockormond4131 12 дней назад

    4:32 I just want to point out that you can overfill somewhat and the mealwood will still grow, so you can use a water vent at the same level as the farm tile on the floor and you can fill it to overpressure without fear of drowing the plants. This also allows using ice temp shift plates as a quick fix if the ranch gets too hot as you are setting up.

  • @stegalin96
    @stegalin96 12 дней назад

    I know this has been out a bit, but I was wondering if you have hit any starvation issues with the glossy dreckos in the main chamber? While yes, regular dreckos can be sustained by 3 per 4, reading just a bit further in that said glossy dreckos require 1 per glossy. The in-game info also has them eating more plant per bite. Is it that this just doesn't care if the main dreckos die because there are so many to replace with, or what? Any is there a way to silence the critter starvation notification?

    • @engineertroy_
      @engineertroy_ 10 дней назад

      Good catch, I haven't noticed that yet! Maybe they're eating more than expected. As far as I know, the starvation notification can't be silenced.

    Are the critter sensors supposed to be counting critters or eggs? what are all the extra loaders meant to be shipping? I'm guessing it's split between removing meat, eggshells but that still leaves 2 loaders unaccounted for. Can anyone clarify this please? Edit: Turns out I got ahead of myself and wasn't listening about the sensors but I still need to know what the xtra loaders are shipping

    There are a couple of things I could do to improve it further. I build these things for the long term, so I'd double insulate it. A single layer of insulation will eventually heat up to 75 degrees, after a few hundred cycles, but heat transfer between two insulated tiles will take much much longer. The other thing you could consider is buffering your inputs and outputs with reservoirs and a bit of automation. I'm not a fan of paying full price for a water pump that's only moving a fraction of it's capacity.

    • @engineertroy_
      @engineertroy_ 14 дней назад

      I usually convert to stone hatches and feed them igneous if I’m on terra because there is a ton of it toward the bottom of the asteroid. You can mine resources from space to sustain later game. If you like this build I can’t wait to show you the latest version I’m currently working on. It addresses a couple of issues that this build has. The video is almost finished and should be releasing soon!

    OK, clear and concise. This is good. Shows overlays AND reverse overlays for those of us whose brains won't do it on the fly. I use FSPOMs a lot, but this build is better than mine. Should you care to do another tutorial, something I could use is a kitchen with deep freeze and automation. I have tried my own, and I have tried others I have seen in videos, but I have never been happy with any of them. Should it be near the great hall? Does it really matter? Should I not cook X food and save it for later? That is a thing I would build my whole base around if I had a good one to start with. Have a sub, you earned it.

    i did the wiring different, i hooked up the gens w heavy watt wires to my main grid, but i left the battery since if the grid somehow runs out of power, the spom will be able to run longer. this does require you to have the battery controlling the generators to be attached to the main grid tho cool design, but for some reason the water gets pushed over to the side by the electrolyzers into 1 tile. i did put in 100kg per tile like the vid said. the gases were primed with 2.2kg on hydrogen side and 4.8kg on oxygen by accident. gonna try to reduce the oxygen side, if that doesnt work ill have to break in again and try to add more water edit: my dumbass forgot the airflow tile underneath the electrolyzer

    i never pre-prime a hydra and it was always fine (altho the design i useally use is a bit different then how this one looks), i make sure to save before piping the water for the first time, but everytime i have to reload a save it was because of some dumb mistake like building it wrong or not having enough liquid/liquids that arent viscose enough, pre-priming the chambers with the gases couldn't have saved me anyway

    The hydrogen side fills up much faster than oxygen side. When the hydrogen is above 20kg its turning off the electrolyzers and thus my oxygen production stops until it dips under 20kg. How to solve? I don't want to run it indefinitely. I could add some generators to my power plant to burn the hydrogen. But is there a fix as it is? @engineertroy_

    May i suggest to drop surplus eggs in a room completely filled with hydrogen and a shearing station. instead of the " Evolution " death chamber. I also add a critter drop in the corner behind an open door this allows more critters to be dropped into this chamber by dupes from the incubator. Critters can walk out of the drop point and into the shear. By doing this you can get an extra two shears ( one shear when they become an adult and another before they starve to death) then collect the meat.
