I am very new to woodworking. This looks like a fun project to try. Is there a reason you use two pieces of wood for the axle and the cab vs just using one piece of wood?

So I’m going to be doing a bunch of these for Christmas handouts and have a couple of tips myself for mass production. I’m going to try a Hole saw to cut the base round piece and make reusable hardboard templates from the printed patterns to layout/nest the parts to save time and create less material waste.

I wonder if you could skip tracing the stripes with the pencil and go with just the burner and ruler?

Wouldn’t it be better to make the thickness of the wheel bases 1 inch instead of 7/8 inch

Put some glue on a scrap piece of wood and use a flat tooth pick to put the glue in the wheel, this works better than putting it on the dowel
