Needle Felting: The Bunny
It's been a while but this video is one that has been requested so I just had to give it a go and get it uploaded! If you'd like to felt along you will need some white and pink carded wool fibre, two 6mm round black beads, some black thread and a sewing needle and finger protectors, felting needles (preferably in a holder) and a felting pad to work on. If you have any questions be sure to pop them in the comments and if you need somewhere to buy your felting supplies and kits from be sure to check out my website www.beltanegifts.com.
Thanks for watching, it means the world to me, Ruth x

Needle Felting: A cat
Просмотров 1682 года назад
This one was a request from one of my customers in the shop who couldn't make it in for a workshop. It didn't quite turn out as planned and it took three attempts at filming to get this far! The videos kept getting a little too involved and long and I wanted this to be something that a beginner could have a go at so please excuse the proportions being a little out of the ordinary. I was tempted...

Craft fairs, what to expect and what you might need, filmed after a bad one!
Просмотров 1373 года назад
I wasn't sure if I was going to post this or not. I filmed it after getting back from an especially trying craft fair and I guess I needed to vent. This was the 3rd take, once I'd calmed down a bit and the hysterical laughter had stopped. Craft fairs can be a very rewarding thing to do, not usually financially, but in other ways and I hope I've managed to get some of these across and haven't pu...
Needle Felting: An Owl

I originally made these owls as a brooch for workshops but later decided to fill them out to make a 3d creature. As with most of my creatures this one is based on a dome which makes it nice and easy to make even for a beginner so definitely try this one at home! Needle Felting: The Dust Bunny
Просмотров 3643 года назад
These little guys are inspired by the dust bunnies rolling around the floor of my shop! No matter what I do to get rid of them there always seems to be at least one loose about the shop so I decided to make my own in a case of "If you can't beat them, join them". Ever since I have collected up all my odd bits of fibre and when I have enough I will felt a bunny. If you would like to make your ow...
Needle Felting: The Bat

Now I do love bats, they're cute and fluffy and some of them even eat mosquitos ( a creature that I do not love) so yay bats! This little guy might not be anatomically correct but I'm allowing myself some artistic licence in order to keep felting time (and editing time) down. I hope you like him anyway! Needle Felting: The Gnome

I thought I'd go simple this week, mainly so I wouldn't have to do too much editing but also because I love these little guys. I've seen lots of them around in the past few years at Christmas time but why can't they be for all year round? They seem to be similar to brownies in that they help out around the house and work for sweet food. They also need to be respected or you could be in for some...

Looking for something to do I decided for the few quid it was worth a punt! Ive just started needle felting and just love your videos. thank you for sharing, but one area I am stuck on is knowing how firm the felting needs to be at particular stages, for example when you are attaching the face to the head? should the head be marshmallow squidgy ( love that term) or firmer,

    • @TheCraftingChez
      @TheCraftingChez 5 месяцев назад

      Hi, thanks for getting in touch! With firmness generally everyone is different with some people felting really firmly and others super squishy. For me, if I'm adding something, like a face or arms etc, I'll felt a bit more firmly. You should be able to add without flattening or completely misshaping what you've already felted. If you start adding and you find the head starts to indent stop. Go over the whole thing again so that it stays in scale and then try again. When adding features you can also build up slowly using layers of wool and not stabbing too deeply. This helps if you don't want to felt too firmly. Hope this helps. Any questions though please let me know x

      Sorry for my earlier very random comment! I was totally thinking about the bunny when this message popped up and started picturing a bunny with a scorpion tail, and then antlers. A stinger on the bee makes much more sense! 😂 I'd probably use a glue gun to make a stinger, wait for the glue to get hot. touch it to the bees bum and pull the gun away without releasing any more glue. It should stretch leaving a fine strand behind. Use scissors once it's cooled to cut to length. You might want to experimenting a bit on something like a random bit of cardboard first though before trying it on your bee 😀

    What a cute Mr/Mrs fox, its really lovely. You should definitely have more subs than you have and wow your paintings are absolutely stunning. I can’t draw for toffee which is why I love needle felting so much, I was always great at clay sculpture when I was at school but that was over 30 years ago so when I got into wool sculpture I instantly loved it and picked it up really fast after that and the first thing I did was a fox, then another,then another because I was always told to make 3 of that one animal and you’ll become good on the last one and it’s true, in my case anyway. 😂 I struggle a lot with arthritis in my hands so it takes me a long time to make anything of significance these days, but it’s my hobby and I love it. I usually give them away or give them to charities to auction off to raise money for them. Thanks for sharing Mr/Mrs fox with us.

    • @TheCraftingChez
      @TheCraftingChez 2 года назад

      I got hooked too when I first tried felting too, and its always made me think about molding clay, just one stab at a time. I know what you mean about making 3 to get good. The first fox I made before the video looked like a corgi 😄. I'm sorry to hear about your arthritis, my nan had it terribly in her hands before she passed but she loved to paint and like you didn't let it stop her. I'm not sure if you've heard of it but there's stuff called polymorph, it's polythene pellets that melt in hot water and can be shaped. It becomes solid again when it cools down and can be used to make handles bigger and mold them to your hand, I got some originally to make nans paintbrushes easier to hold. I don't know if it will help but it might be worth a try for your felting needle holders. Thank you for your kind words and thanks for watching 😊

      Thank you! I also use this technique for any of the larger heads I make, it's great for horses if you change the base shape a bit. I've also used it to make bears and wolves, just add a thicker cover of wool fibre and then cover in fur. It's a great way to use up that leftover foam and saves so much wool and time! I hope you give it a go and thank you for watching ☺️

    Love your videos and the way you explain and show everything 😊 can we felt straight after it comes out of the wash or does it need to dry first? X

      Thank you, I really appreciate that! Yes, you can felt while it's still wet, I like to tumble dry first thought as this helps to shrink everything together. If you're decorating with different colours needle felting after its shrunk will give you sharper details. If you want a softer finish you can needle felt onto the wet doll and tumble dry after. If you're not going to tumble dry just be sure it dries fully, otherwise the wool can go a bit musty. It might be worth wiping down your needle too if felting wet to prevent rusting. Hope this helps. Happy felting! x

    You are a sensible teacher. I enjoy your personality ... and your bumble bees are adorable. I've been wanting to make smaller bees.

      Thank you! I hope you have fun making some bees, I like to make them into brooches by adding a clasp to the back. They're great fun to wear!
