Trail Riding and thinking, "not lost but don't ask me where we are!" We weren't terribly worried because we stuck to the trail - mostly! SJ sang out a lot "go away bear" hoping to scare any bear that may be in this remote area while we were trail riding horses. I was happy we were doing a horse gopro day as the helmet cam allowed us to share this crazy adventure with you guys! This was such a f...

What is endurance riding?
Another great ride. Don't envy the flies. They can get bad sometimes. And ... they say you're never too old. 😊
How do you find the time to ride with farm work waiting?
I relate so much to how you talk to the horses. Love these videos! ❤ Thanks for sharing your rides!
oMG! I recognize that trailer.
Lynn, your farm is beautiful!
What a beautiful setting for a farm with the land and sea. Love the views of the Basin. Great ride on a great day.
love the 'slurrrp-slurrrp'.
Nice.
Well done! It sure is a lot harder to ride at home than to go out for a trail ride!
I knew there were others out there! I thought, "I can't be the only one who finds riding at home challenging!"
You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place!!
Yes we certainly are. I think of that every day.
Trot in the sun, walk in the shade… thanks! This question was going through my mind for a while 🎉
It's been an important concept for us. Happy to share it!
To see how many miles you all traveled. The horse's usually will know the way back, but you took him off.Trail, it seems maybe a lot more than you probably should have. But what a great day huh is long ago.Had enough water and the horses had enough water all's well fun
getting 5 frames a second
happy trails
Awww! HAPPY TRAILS. Thank you so much for answering back!
Let the horses find the way back. They allways know the way back.
Getting ready to take my green horse to his first ride, just doing the intros as the whole experience will be new for him. Love your videos.
Oh very best of luck. Fingers crossed for you. Take your time and enjoy the experience!
😮❤
Ladies what fun! You inspire me to get out on the trail. Be safe and keeping singing to the bears. Christine
So happy we are inspiring someone to "get out there". I'll take SJ's singing over bear bells any day!
After a few hunter paces, when my mare's neck got sweaty and my leather reins got too slippery hold, I started using cotton web reins. Much better at absorbing/evaporating moisture.
They would be. Lucky for me Kohl doesn't try to grab the bit and go (most days!)
Another extraordinary ordinary day! I need the T-shirt!
So do we!
So do you carry some sort of protection from bears? Seemed like an adventure. Tracey (Australia)
Not yet. But it's an ongoing risk assessment.
Another adventures trail, glad to see no bears about. Do you have any plans for a endurance ride soon? Hope you take us along love the style of your videos, all natural ❤
Never say "we're on our way back " and we're not concerned. Trail curse😂
Not sure about our plans for a race - it's been a slow season locally and we are focused on training up the mares. We do have some adventures in store though! and the final plan is still to do a 100 mile ride!
So true!
It is so fun to explore new areas. I literally ducked my own head, while sitting on my couch when SJ ducked under that tree branch. LOL She got me. Do you guys use bear bells at all when riding?
I thought I replied to this last week - must missed a button. I laughed right out loud when I read that you ducked. Loved that so much! I'm not a fan of bear bells. SJ would have them attached in a second!
Another adventurous day on the trail. You two are fearless explorers. And great singers! Love your videos. 😊
Thank you! Love knowing that you are coming along with us for the ride!
Nice to have somewhere new to ride and with lots of forage for the horse's 😊 look forward to part 2 👍
Yep there was lots of forage! Hoping to get part two out tomorrow. Thanks for your comments and interest ❤️
Aw, sad that the little trail/road did not turn into something longer for the two of you. That grabbing leaves is a no no for my mare. It is annoying to me and any riding partners. I am glad you ladies got out.
Oh well, there are at least two other little side roads to explore. Sadly - the bugs will keep us out of them for a bit! I don't mind them grabbing leaves - sometimes we have very long days on trail - but Kohl was excessive on that day!
It doesn’t take long for Sarah’s tune to get stuck in your head. 🤣😂
😂
I just did 22 km in 4 hours (3:30 riding time, 30 minutes pause). Is this track really flat? The paths look amazing to trot a lot. At our place we have so much difficult, Stony path and it’s never really flat…
Yes, this is almost flat...just enough of a roll to keep it from getting too boring and most of the footing is good.
Bless him❤
Endurance rider here, love those devil ears on that arab!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤️ ❤️ ❤️ 😉
Great sport. Loved doing this with my husband when we were a lot younger
Yes, I wish I'd of had the means and the time at a younger age!
I love your videos. Poor SJ, not coming off of her horse makes it a good ride for her. <3 This is not a judgy question. But more for my learning. If SJ has so many issues with her horse. I am curious as to why she did not find herself a safer and perhaps more enjoyable mount? I know some people enjoy more "challenging" horses. I did when I was younger. But being 59 years old now. I need a steady Eddie type. What is the app that you are using on your watch? My mare is 16 this year. It is good to know that you can still be going strong on a 22 year old horse. But my mare Nyobi is a Moriesian. I am hoping the Morgan health and life span out weights her Friesian side. Thank you for sharing your journeying.
Good question...up until just the past week, t's been over 9 months since Aziim "crow hopped" and the issue of him leading has been progressing beautifully so for the most part, SJ is joking around. However, as we have increased speed just recently, Aziim has started up again. We have a few things to try and if they don't work, SJ probably will switch horses. It would be a shame though, because if we can get this sorted out, Aziim is perfect for her. My watch is a garmin - not an app. Good luck with your Nyobi. I've never seen a morgan/friesian cross. Beautiful I bet!
Heat tip 11 and a half - cover your saddle seat with a white cloth when you dismount for more than 5-10 minutes so the sun doesn't blister your butt when you get back on. 😄
Fizzy Izzy hat a wonderfully simple idea! Bet you see it in practice on our videos over this summer!
Aww you guys are so cute 😍 loved this. Just found your channel.
Thank you!! 😊 Grab a coffee and come ride with us!
15 miles in 3 hours is still BLAZING FAST at 5mph average. It’s funny because most trail rides I’ve been on, many can’t get over 3 mph average. So the popular saying that endurance riding is just another trail ride is far from the truth. And you need to constantly be moving to make that 5mph average.
Yes and most IDRs are 5mph but this particular IDR (Spring into Stanley - Atlantic Canada Trail Riding Association website) is a 4mph average - for some reason it always been 4!
@@diaryofanendurancerider is that because you’re adding in the hold time?
Great info on introduction rides. Well done. Especially like all age and experience differences.
Thanks Anna!
I'm glad ur horse is well trained mine would've galloped 🙄🥰
Yikes! At least he/she has a lot of go!
Very encouraging! Especially the guidance about how many miles my horse can do with some fitness and age of rider ☺️
That's great. Best of luck!
What a fun and beautiful ride. Hopefully next summer, I can start endurance riding or at least do a novice ride. Thanks for talking about the intro ride things you need and don't need yet. That makes it less overwhelming when I do my first ride in the future.
Good to hear. That's what I was hoping - to help people realize that it's not a big deal "gear wise" Thanks for coming along with us on this journey. We LOVE the company!
You had fun! The most important part of the ride❤❤❤
That is the truth and hopefully we are pulling in someone from the younger generation to keep it going!
Super ride ladies! Thank you for the video! Keep them coming! 🎉❤
Aww thanks! We are hoping to!
You're doing great!❤
Thank you!!
Don't jinx yourself by saying "they're extremely calm".😂
You are so RIGHT! You would think we would know better by now!
Another great video. Thanks for the ride.
Giddy up!
We are already struggling with flies! What do you ladies use on the horses for these long rides and around the farm?
Really good question flies are such an issue..In general, around the farm we have it set up so that all the horses can go in/out a stall as they want so that takes care of it. We don't put food in the stall so they will venture out to eat and venture out at night. They decide what they want more..to eat or to put up with flies. On the trail, that's a multi-layered answer. First off, in serious fly season I put three different products on the horses, first a good quality spray, then a product called "wipe" that goes along the widest part of the barrel and then a white creamy stuff (can't remember the name) on the but and in the mane. Leave it there after the ride and it helps for any of the other horses in that paddock. Another way - and I use this a lot but only with a seasoned horse...if you pick up the canter/fast trot and stay there - you WILL outrun them! I train this way a lot with Spirit and Kohl.
Great ride ladies Spirit did really well Azi such a softy ❤ thanks for taking us along❤
Thanks for coming with us. LOVE the company!
What exactly is your Garmin that track your ride? Is it also hooked to a heart monitor for your horse?
It's a Garmin 920 XT. It has a human heart rate monitor - we added elastic to each side and have used it on the horses. It works well with the arabs but is not as accurate on the more heavily muscled horses like Spirit. I also use and watch/heart rate monitor that has only that purpose - also meant to be used by a human!
