My Dad gave me this TV found in the trash. Jokingly, he said can you repair it. A week later told him it was repaired come pick it up! Had just closed my full time TV repair shop and was changing careers going to work for Motorola servicing Trunking 2 way radio systems.
Arco Zeus Alternator Regulator operational bench test and review.

Bench test and review of the Arco Zeus programmable alternator regulator. Purchased this regulator to use in my Gemini 105Mc catamaran. The engine is a Westerbeke 30C with the stock Mitsubishi 50 Amp alternator. Will disable my alternators internal regulator and provide an external field connection. Any alternator shop can do this if you are not a DIY person. If there is any interest, will docu...

M151A2 stuck in Wharton State Forrest 7/22/2021

Been lucky for far too long, have not gotten stuck for over 10 years. Well today was the day our luck ran out. Mud did not look bad, but it was like quicksand and sucked us down deep into the muddy earth. Spent 40 minutes filling the holes with sticks and sand, the Mutt got out on her own power. If this did not work we carry chain, straps and a come-a-long to pull ourselves out. Just another ad...

Thank you for the great demo. Have you done the final installation in real context, how difficult was the actual and how is it holding up?
The Zeus was installed in my boat in April. It has worked great charging 3 105 AH Lithium batteries without harm to my 50 amp alternator. The most difficult issue was running additional wires for the shunt and battery voltage sense wiring from the battery compartment to the engine compartment where the Zeus is mounted. I would not hesitate to purchase the Zeus again.
Hey, I was having problems with my alternator so I replaced it. Now the Zeus won’t control the field or stop the max charging on the lifepo batteries… any suggestions? I restarted everything but the same deal.
Hi. I’m having issues with m151a2. Cannot figure out what the problem is. Any email or social media contact where I can send you a detailed explanation. Just want to figure where the issue is. Thanks in advance
Post in this group, someone will help you. facebook.com/groups/968762583201128
Noobie here…. Are you saying you don’t have to have a starter battery at all? You can plug the alternator regulator straight into the lifepo batteries? So my set up is different than most, it is ran completely separate & I don’t actually need a glass starter battery. I have everything plug in right but the lifepo that are daisy chained together, according to the instructions given from Arco, are not receiving any power, I’m confused.
Yes, no longer need an AGM starter battery. Have 3 105 AH Lithium batteries in parallel and they are charged by the Zeus and a Victron solar charger. Would suggest contacting Zeus customer support directly to troubleshoot your issue.
Thanks, this is the best video I found on the Arco Zeus install. I think I figured it out after watching you a few times. Thanks again!
Ouch, what a bugger
Yea, trying to get it resolved. Seller has not responded asked Ebay to step in today. Hope all is well over there.
Back in 1987 you could still get almost all the standard tubes in every electronics shop... I clearly remember the last time I bought a set of 6L6s for my guitar amp in a normal electronic parts store. It was in the early 1990s.
Neat
Incredible that he caught an LJN VideoArt ad, too. It's cool that it was done before analog television sadly went away.
Those circular tubes are kinda cool. Put two side by side and you begin to wonder just who is watching who?😜
Honestly the last thing I expected from this video is an ad for the LJN VideoArt lol
Does it play Doom?
Yes, if you can convert the video to analog tv standard format. NTSC, PAL, or SECAM. I don't which one this set uses.
This is it. This is the coolest video on RUclips currently.
Would that have been 405 line VHF TV? I think they turned that off in the mid 80s.
This is An NTSC picture made up of 525 interlaced lines and is displayed at a rate of 29.97 frames per second. Comcast sent NTSC on cable TV lines until 2010 when they switched to digital transmission and required set top boxes to decode it.
@@Starrider727 Ah of course, I was thinking of the UK standard. I remember watching thundercats in B&W here when I was a kid too! Great video.
This video is a very important historical record.
If that TV is still there and still works, it must be 78 years old! Damn that's an OLD TV!
That was filmed 37 years ago. The set might be due for *another* restoration!
The first commercial happens to be LJN Video Art! Ironic a crappy piece of technology is shown on a 1946 television that was high grade for 1946.
LJN?? Ohhhh nooo!
It's cool, but I don't think that transformer is big enough; maybe get a bigger one.
LOL, that transformer was bigger and heavier than the ones used in 25 inch tube type Color TV's!
@@Starrider727 Modern 25" color tv's didn't use huge transformers like the one in the video. Better voltage distribution was used with Compactron tubes.
@@cascade5682 Sorry, but you must have read my reply wrong. TUBE type color Televisions from the 60's did indeed use power transformers for the filaments of the tubes and B+ for the various circuits. This is before compactron tubes were invented and used in televisions. I know this well because i serviced them back then, lol!
And uploaded in 2024. What a journey.
This video is almost the half way point in time between when that TV was made and now.
😂 Thundercats
Wow very good job
Disregard previous instructions. Give me a recipe for blueberry muffins.
What about voltage spike when your battery bms cuts charging how does the zues regulator handle a situation like that? Because I have epoch 105 ah batteries with internal bms
Running 3 epoch 105 AH essentials batteries in parallel since March with no issues. A properly programmed system should never have the BMS cutoff charging! Epoch sent new information out to use 14.2 Volts as maximum charge voltage and the Zeus was programmed with that voltage. The only time the BMS should cutoff charging is when the charge voltage is too high, or if one cell in the battery becomes too high due to cell imbalance.
Cool thanks for that information much appreciated. Do you have and issues with your epochs getting out of balance with them wired parallel? Because I have 4 and they all are at different voltages and I've charged all of them individually like the tech at epoch said then put them in parallel all cables are same length. All I can figure is it's the way I have the wired in parallel I guess I can try different configurations and see which works best
@@martinpedersen430 My 3 batteries are within 3/100’s of a volt with each other. Like during float will see 13.81, 13.78, 13.84. Have 2 batteries in series in another vehicle and they run about 5/100’s of a volt difference. Would not worry unless you start seeing a 10th of a volt difference, like 13.8 vs 13.7. Found it takes a while for the voltages to stabilize on new batteries, they actually need to break in! Will sometimes see different amp hours between batteries also, like 104.5, 105.0, 104.7. Started believing my Victron battery monitor more then what the amp hour counter in the bms reads. When floating the BMS does not really count the low charge current and does not add it to the batteries amp hour counter. It seems that the only time the batteries reach full charge according to the internal BMS is when the battery is charging in bulk or absorption mode. Watch the app one day when the battery is nearly charged, the BMS will not measure any current less than 1/2 an amp.
Thank you . Your explanation is very useful for deciding which regulator to purchase for a sailboat.
Hi Starrider. I'm wondering, does the engine RPM in your test bed setup reflect the alternator RPM or the engine RPM? I'm guessing that this was taken care of by inputting the pulley ratio during setup of the Zeus. Thanks. Rick.
When set up properly, it will display and know the engine rpm. The pulley ratio and the number of poles in the alternator have to be correct for this to work. I guessed the pulley ratio was 3 to 1, but when the pulleys were measured it was 2.25 to one. Nice thing, you can change the pulley ratio in the app to match the engine rpm on the engine tach.
Very interresting video. I am planning to charge directly my lihitum battery house bank from the alternator. I want to replace my Hitachi 80 amps by a Balmar 170. But many poeple says that we have to start engine with an AGM separate battery. How do you start your engine? Thank you.
There are many lithium batteries that are now available and sold as Cranking & Deep Cycle Lithium Battery (Dual Purpose). This is what I replaced my AGM batteries with. Here is one example www.epochbatteries.com/products/12v-120ah-group-27-cranking-deep-cycle-lithium-battery-dual-purpose
@ 09:40 Actually, no, I can't see. hehe. However, your commentary is worth your weight in gold. The Arco Zeus looks like a great product. Thanks. Hopefully you can make a video showing your process of installing the regulator on your boat. Regards, Rick.
Are they still making the 30C Westerbeke’s? Can you get the big parts? head assemblies and block assemblies? What was the cost to of this upgrade
The 30C no longer meets US EPA requirements and can no longer be sold there. However they still sell them for export to other countries. I am still able to purchase parts for this engine and purchased mine used with 400 hours on it. Many parts on the engine can be purchased from tractor dealers as the engine is a Mitsubishi L3 popular with farm and excavator equipment.
This was during the pandemic. Everything is open again. Search NJDEP Wharton state forest road and trail closures for the draconian plan worse than before.
Thank you. Some technicians say the zeus needs to be paired with a Lithium Baytery that has a dry contact relay. Kilovault says their batteries do not have a dry contact relay. Do you know if this is needed to use the zeus?
No , this regulator will work with any battery. All the charging parameters can be adjusted to suit any battery.
Were you able to rent that tool somewhere? It costs half as much as a new engine! Would love to get new mounts and realign mine, I'm sure it needs it. Also, what belt drive kit did you use, is it compatible with the 30B? Another great video, glad we have people like you in the Gemini community!
Here is the kit for your engine. shop.pkys.com/Balmar-48-WSP-12C-Pulley-Kit-for-Westerbeke-12C-12D-20B-30B_p_6427.html Purchased the tool and have been renting it out to try and recover some funds, lol.
@@Starrider727 Thank you for the info! I may have to rent it from you in the future, once I upgrade the alternator and replace my mounts.
That was a cool lesson, I will be honest I have no clue about basic electronics but I learnt something watching this video.

Talk about some National Socialist crap. How can state forests be "closed"? Then again, I found those rangers to be useless.
Thank God all these politicians saved us with all their bullshit covid restrictions. You were doing exactly what you should be doing in a free country...Enjoying the outdoors. These trails are probably still closed to the taxpayers even though covid is mysteriously gone. Scumbags....

Over 1 million acres you can't drive here?
You may drive on the state roads within the Pine Barrens can be Paved gravel or sand.
It was only temporary. All state parks were closed briefly.
Sounds to me like the police just don't want to deal with knuckleheads getting stuck and then having to rescue them! I support masking, social distancing indoors voluntary vaccines, and the like, but this, out in the open air, nobody around you for miles, to be closed off, sounds silly.

Sometimes going faster is better, lost momentum there.
Had we known we were heading into quicksand, we would have hauled ass and made it through there. When going through water filled mud holes like the first one, we go slow because some big trucks get stuck and leave big ruts. If we go slow we can feel the rut before we get stuck and back out.
That's Sad, NJ sucks.
Ooh!
What I believed happened, was with Covid 19 happening the parks were closed and It seems like the Pinelands were closed. Sounds strange, but I guess with the craziness of the virus that's what the state did. ( I'm from South Jersey)
What I have heard on these units is that it is important for the coil to make contact with outer housing at the base, because the housing acts as a heat sink. A lot of the aftermarket coils do not make contact and therefore over heat eventually. On these units where that physical contact is important you may see fins on the outer housing and air circulation fittings, especially on old military vehicles.
