I was interested in your video. I do enjoy your videos and all the detail you give. This one was of greater importance as I planned to tackle all three in one day. After much deliberation I decided to start at Derrydarroch. There is a lay-by right opposite the track leading to the house. The lay-by is probably the next one down from the one you used. The route up was over Stob Glas, this was pathless and hard going but interesting route finding. It brought me out at An Caisteal. Three hours. On to Beinn a Chroin. Yes that crag is something else. I too have a dog but I don’t think he is quite as nimble as yours. I had to lift him up over that big step and one other near the top. When I can i try and do the Tops so ventured out to the east Top before returning to Beinn a Chroin. It was there I decided I wouldn’t try the return trip down the crag. Instead i turned south towards Carn Liath but halfway there there is a bealach and i decided to go down there, really steep but grass, until the gradient eased. Then I traversed slowly loosing height to arrive at the bealach on route to Beinn Chabhair. Yes that was a tough ascent but I also found a bit of a track. I agree the ridge descent was brilliant. I too turned off down at the bealach before the 719 spot. On the plus side when i reached the WHW it was five minutes back to the car. Wow yes this was a great day. My views weren’t as good as yours. Anyway your video was really helpful as I wasn’t sure if Beinn Chabhair could be linked.

@@charlesrobert9527 I think your lay-bye sounded like a better option than the one I chose… it is a particularly spectacular route and one I remember fondly…you prompted me to watch the video again… I’m missing the mountains… thinking about doing the Corbels more and more !!!

Yes I won’t forget that route. Definitely in the top tier. It has plenty to keep you busy. I gather you are a compleator. From those I have talked to re attempting all the Corbetts they are definitely a challenge. I understand you have more navigation and route finding challenges with some of them. I guess if you enjoyed the route finding of this walk then the Corbetts will be really appealing. I have 98 Munro’s to go but, yes, wondering what to do next. About half way through the Munro’s I decided to try and pick up the Tops even when they were some ways off route. So maybe I’ll try and finish them first. I believe some are quite tricky. There is one at the west end of Liathach which I understand is a real challenge. No doubt some on Skye too. Anyway if you do decide to tackle the Corbetts I’ll keep an eye out for more videos. All the best. Chas

Great video . I just done An Caisteal and Beinn a'Chròin yesterday. Since coming down and in poor visibility considering it was meant to be a good forecast. I never done the first top you went to on Beinn a’Chroin just the 1st top which would have been your last before the scramble and the middle the high point 942m. I have read mixed reviews. Would you agree this was the true summit (Munro) as your video suggests? Thanks for any help

I can understand why there is a mixed opinion… the first top certainly felt higher, but the OS map suggests otherwise… consequently i called it the Munro…to be honest they are so close together it’s worth bagging them both just to be sure… I really enjoyed this day, one I remember with fondness

Would love to know how these boots faired on your adventure, plus a question did you have two pairs so they could dry out each day? We had a rather odd conversation with a guy in an outdoor shop saying that you can’t wear them everyday, as you have to dry them out, though he wasn’t talking specifically about Altberg’s just good walking. Lots 8n general.

    • @baggingthemunros3354

They are still going strong… both pairs are still bone dry (waterproof ).. I’ve walked a huge distance with them as I walk my dogs twice a day as well! Considering have them resoled. Indeed I got two pairs as I rotated each day.. I changed colour of the laces in one pair to identify.. this allowed the boots to dry out naturally, without using any drying rooms. I also used the “Gris” at least once a week.. Can’t recommend them enough… bullet proof!!

Thanks for sharing. Did a pair of Altberg Tethera boots last you 1200 to 1500 miles or boots you had previously from other manufacturer?

Yes the boots survived the Munro’s and are still going strong… I am considering getting them resold and this is a service Altberg offer

The ‘ch’ in Arrochar is pronounced as in ‘loch’ or ‘Bach’. I live at the foot of Narnain

I did struggle with my pronunciation, luckily in the later part of my challenge I found the walk highland web page… which helped no end… still difficult for a Yorkshire man…I think you live in an amazing place!!

Thanks for the video. Bin Boo-eee, or Bin Voo ee is the pronunciation, there are translation / pronunciation helps on Walking Highlands.

Thanks … I did find walking highlands webpage… unfortunately it was quite a way into my challenge so many of the videos had poor pronunciation…. Id like to say it got better as the challenge progressed… a fantastic year in Scotland and the Lake District

I did those hills in a single day, had a shower when returning to my van at Corrie Hallie and enjoyed three pints in fbi in Ullapool before closing time.

This was up there with one my favourite days in the Munro’s… cycling in is a great idea, save carrying loads of gear, I wish I’d thought of it… I think I was at my lowest ebb in the whole challenge, walking back to car, in the dark, very late at night dehydrated and fatigued…. The challenge was catching up with me at this point!!! Fantastic memories

Has anyone pointed out that when you have a name like Loch, and bealach, you personally in your videos always pronounce the ch part as a 'k', as in Lok (or Lock), the ch in Gaelic writing is meant to be like a throaty version of 'H' like when you might say the name Hugh.

I did find pronouncing the Gaelic more challenging, than climbing the Munro’s… I found the Walk highland web page much too late.. which did help somewhat!

I used a few different guide books and indeed made some up as I went along… I planned all the routes in lock down onto OS maps… I made a web page with all the routes I did… I did make a few mistakes in hein sight.. I did all the Munro’s in 120 (routes) walking days.. this could have comfortably been two or three days less…. Enjoy you walking
