Viet Congs were South Vietnamese people, mostly in rural area. They were opresed during feodalism, double opressed during colonialism. When the American came they did little to help them and prevent the South Vietnamese Republican Regime to opress them. US money only reach big cities and developed area, that is where they have support from the locals, and outside is where their control over South Vietnam end. The VC didnt fight because they like Marxism or Leninism, most of them couldn't read communists books. They fought because the republican government put in charge of their villages the old land owners who robbed them for 5 generations. The Republic government itself consisted of rich land owners, so they were hated by rural people, that was the reason Diem sabotaged Geneva Accord after 1st Indochina war, he knew they would lost the majority of seats in government if an election was hold. There were so many VC sympathizers, their numer grew and reached even to inner circle of VN Republican government, a close friend of South VNs president, his advisor from a catholic rich family were one of them. They were called "Urban Viet Congs", the underground resistance movement, a head of rural VC movement, educated intellectuals already infilrated into government and military. They were behind the Tet Offenssive. Contruary to many believes - The Tet Offensive was planned supplied and organized by the North VN, but the request and directly commanded by Urban VCs. In the Vo Nguyen Giap POV it was a suicidal operation, he planned it on the request of South VN Urban VCs, but never approved it, so many people wrongly accused him for planning a failed military operation, dooming 200,000 VC to die. He was a military man, and didnt understand nor knowing the political situation in South VN and America, the Urban VC knew, they not only correctly feel the air in Saigon and Wasington, they doubled down when it was needed: when the VCs took over most of South VNs cities, and start suffering heavy losses from US counter attack, the North VN ordered retreat, but the Urban VC insisted for operation to go on, sacroficing hundred thousands VC fighters. North VN would spent couple years to rebuild VC force. But the Urban VCs were right and their gamble paid of in the end, the image of destruction of Tet Offensive shocked America, the Goverment couldn't cover the truth and spin it anymore, the anti war movement deal the hardest blow to US administration and partially resulted at Nixon political defeat. Those VNs who were and still pro US would say they lived very well under the US, the US gave them money. They simply didnt know it was loans, US never give anything for free. The VN war cost American taxpayers 114-141 billion $ of 1955-1968 dollars value, Today it would worth 1,5-2 trillion $. 10 billion of them were loans to South VN. The debt were paid by VNs Communists government in 90s, when US and VN finnaly normalized their relationship. In comparision according to NSA report, USSR the Warsaw pact countries and China together sent North VN weapons and materials worth 5,3 billions $ in the same period, 20-25 times less than US spending on the war. Money cannot win you a war.

8:08 That architectural feature of the Opera House is still preserved today from the time of the American war. If you want to find out, go to Google Map and search for "Nha hat lon" in Hanoi, Vietnam and you can see it. threshold or go to Vietnam, stand there, turn on this film and feel it.

AT THE TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS 12 YEARS OLD, AND LISTENED TO THE NEWS ON RADIO AND READ THE NEWSPAPERS, UNLIKE MY PEERS! AFTER DIEN BEN PHU INCIDENT I HEARD OR SAW NOTHING MORE UNTIL MID 1963, THEN I STARTED HEARING ABOUT VIETNAM, THEN REALIZED THAT WAS THE OLD FRENCH INDOCHINA! AT THIS TIME ALSO I BEGAN TO FEAR MY POSSIBLE ENSLAVEMENT TO THE US MILITARY AND WAS NEARLY DRAFTED, BUT INSTEAD JOINED AN NON COMBAT ARMY RESERVES UNIT IN DECEMBER 1963. GOING TO BASIC TRAINING IN FT LEONARD WOOD, I WAS SHOCKED AT THE NUMBER OF MY FELLOW RECRUITS WHO KNEW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT VIETNAM!! BY THE BEST OF LUCK AND GUILE I MANAGED TO WEASLE OUT OF THE RESERVES, TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF ACTIVATION FOR VIETNAM , STARTING MAY 16, 1968!

When Kennedy assembled his best and brightest to involved America in indo-china. Ho Chi Minh 20 years prior assembled his best and brightest to fight the French. When Kennedy decided to involved the U.S. Ho chi minh and his fighter have already been at it with the french for 20 years. how in the hell did America think they could win over the Vietnamese people.

Vietnam and Indonesia have a similar history of the struggle for independence... Indonesia fought the Netherlands after the end of the second world war II. and in 1965 the war of communist idealism against western democracy and now the war against poverty

The Americans were extremely strong , powerful , intelligent , they have overwhelmingly better weapons, men , food supplies . Vietnam have beaten and subjugate the French, Americans, Chinese....ect.... not by military strength , but the only thing we have better and more than them is the sheer will power and determination . They can murder us by the millions , ten years, twenty years , fifty years a hundred years wars will bring their mental capacity down .... but we will fight them for a thousand years or ten thousands years if it need be. their soldiers were eating full delicious meals having a great times, while our men were eating tree leaves, drinking jungle waters , critically wounded and have to crawl through the treacherous jungle back to basecamps. long live Vietnam independence and self determination.

The ending..1975 the fall of Saigon when the Vietcong invaded Saigon always made me sad..and cried like a baby. I truly believe there were always traitors..the ones who supported the enemy but hid in Saigon which is also part of the reason why the French and the American lost the war
