What a spectacular video, George!
Ah thank you so much. I'm really glad you enjoyed it thank you! 🙏💛
My birthday is the seventh of February 🎉
Happy birthday for then! And how far will you be running? 😏😅
2:50 😂😂😂
😅🙊
I like to do audio books for books I am suffering through while painting or doing something so I don't have to pay much attention and still finish the book and get to the next one
when’s your birthday? mine is the 18th!,
The 17th! Hey fellow scorpio 🦂
Happy birthday!
@light2349 thank you 💛
👏👏👏👏
🙏thank you!
You should read "A series of Unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snicket it's a great series!
I read the first one as a youngun but think that's the only one I've read. There's loads in the series right?
Great video George, really interesting as usual !!!
Nice one Ryan, thanks for giving it a Watch 👍
I started with a goal of reading 12 books in one year :) one book a month felt easy and I was very proud of myself last year and again this year!
Congrats! Keep going 💪 It will just keep getting easier the more you do it
About a year or 2 ago I read around 80 books! I was so happy! Now I am reading philosophy (Plato and Nietzsche) and understanding so much! I couldn't do that before and I am so happy!
Great stuff! Well done. It's great to see progress. Reading is like anything else, the more you do the better you get and more you understand. Keep going!!
Worked for one year restoring some forests near my place., loved the work...but some ridiculous 6euros per hour - taxes, self employed, impossible to afford work insurance, no holidays...Portugal is not ready, who in their right mind want to break the body for 4.5 euros hour in one of the most expensive countries in the EU...so my solution was to build my own forest...think global act local.
4.5 euros is outrageous. Yeah nobody can get by on that. Terrible. But building your own forest sounds amazing and probably a lot more rewarding! How's it all going?
This video is great for the reality of conservation, it's not the easiest career. Working in 'zoological' aspects of biological sciences is tricky, competitive and takes a lot of work. Grades mean very little to experience I've found, enthusiasm matters an awful lot as well. Volunteering at the end shows dedication, the best is in the UK even if you want to work eventually with other climates. I think where people have paid for experiences abroad it might not really look good on a CV. I'm a PhD student in ichthyology/fish biology but have worked in animal husbandry and pathology so I've seen a few aspects of biological sciences.
Thanks for watching and for your comment. Always good to hear other people's experiences too. I agree about grades, I don't think I've ever had to show my degree or any grades and volunteering and experience is much more relied on in applications and interviews. I haven't ever done any volunteering over seas so can't comment too much on that, but now I'm getting a bit older it's something I would like to look into. Just for the experience rather than boosting the CV. Wishing you all the best with your PHD! 🐟
Very very interesting George into your way into wild life conservation, never been to Sandwell valley, I don't live that far, I am from Sutton Coldfield in Brum, small world, great watch as per usual George 🎥🎥👍
Thanks for watching again John. Really appreciate it! Ah local, Sutton is lovely. Yeah I grew up in Walsall so not far away at all 😊
Wow, that was amazing! So interesting to listen to. This will surely be useful to a lot of people. (Not me, I'm retired, thank goodness!)
Thank you so much. I'm really glad you still found it interesting! Hopefully it does find some people that will find it useful 🤞
This is my first time seeing badgers! I hope to see more videos like this.😍
ah that's great - I'm glad I got to show you your first badgers! Thanks for watching 🖤
Really enjoyed this, George! Lots of great ideas for more reading (as if I need more lol). :)
Really glad you enjoyed it! 😊 thanks for the nice comment and I'm glad I could add some more to the ever growing to be read list 😅
Your tips are excellent, and I love the library you have behind you. Sending greetings from Saudi Arabia! 👋🇸🇦
Thank you for tuning in! And for the lovely comment :)
You have such an engaging way to share about these books - great selection as well ! Loved this little gem of a video !
Ah thank you so much Louise! I'm really glad you liked the video and thank you for leaving such a nice comment 😊 💚
That tower of books is making me anxious…
😅 You might be pleased to know that the tower was temporary
A lot of common sense tips. I must admit, I do tend to defer to my phone more than I should and my reading suffers as a result. I also really don't do audio books, because I don't drive - which is where a lot of people seem to listen to them - and, as you mention, I don't retain as much when I'm just listening. I tend to drift off and lose some of what the narrator is saying. Lastly, I don't do as well reading multiple books at a time. I tend to lose track of the plot of a story and important details and so I find myself having to re-read pages or skim backwards to refresh my memory. I probably couldn't do more than two at a time, and they'd have to be very different from each other so that I can keep them straight.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Yeah driving is a main time when I listen to audiobooks but also a lot during chores, tidying / washing up etc. But definitely remember less so I tend to try and stick to fiction when listening as the facts just dont stick if I listen to non-fiction. Also having a non-fiction and a fiction book at the same time is about as much as I can manage at once
Amazing footage George! So nice to see some badgers
Hey Toby, thanks so much for watching!
Good video mate
Thanks a lot James. Cheers for watching and commenting 👍
Good footage of the Badgers George 🎥👌👍
Hi John, thank you. Whenever I'm back in the neighbourhood I might try and go back. Hopefully get more footage when there's still better light in the sky. 🦡
Glad you managed to see some badgers. They definitely don't seem to worry about people too much there! We used to get them in our garden up until about ten years ago. They would come and steal the pears, plums and peaches that fell off our trees! Great characters and fun to watch! Enjoyed your video, and look forward to the next!
Thank you. Yes they certainly are quite brave! Hope to go back one day and try get more footage when there's more light. Do you know what might have happened to your garden badgers?
@@georgecuckoo It would be great if you could do that! It was a combination of a neighbour's dog barking when the badgers came down our garden path, scaring them off, and other neighbours renewing their fence panels, and obstructing their entrance. Then of course, much more recently, the badger cull, so even out and about, we find barely any signs of badgers now, in the places we walk regularly. 😥
@@SkylarkFields That's sad. I hope they come back to your garden one day :(
@@georgecuckoo Thank you. I hope so too.
As a birder, you must read Migrations by Charlotte Mcgonaghy. It’s not just about birds but the characters journey. 5* - read it!
Thank you for the recommendation - added to my list :)
This is my new favourite RUclips channel!
Ah that is too kind 💚 thank you so much Samuel! Means a lot to me thank you 😊 👍
Most of these seem well up my alley and these were well-worded reviews - I always appreciate a description that doesn't spoil the plot while still giving me a reason to read. Curious if you've read The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck and what you thought of it if you have? (sorry if you've reviewed it elsewhere, only just came across this video.)
Hey thank you for watching and for the nice comment. It means a lot to me thanks 😊 I have read it yes, a while ago now so don't remember it too well but I enjoyed it. However I didn't like that it seems to inspire a whole way of self help books that all seemed to want to put swear words in the title which I thought became a little gimmicky. What did you think about it?
@@georgecuckoo Hmm I would agree with you there actually - swear words don't add the meaning, at least in academic or discursive writing, that most people believe they do. Usually they are utilised conversationally for shock factor and/or emphasis which in the book context was interesting - the voice was intended to function as a frank wake up call to people who want to improve their lives but were only prepared for a comfortable, safe, socially approved approach. Good for breaking through a comfort-seeking mindset, potentially a barrier to attracting some readers - I know I dismissed it for a while on the premise that I found the title a bit off-putting. I thought Manson did good research and presented his content in a really interesting structure, and I liked that he didn't pretend to have a cure for every ill of the human mind, he just pointed out that in many cases, the obstacles that people encounter in their lives are far less damaging to progress than the self-pity and apathy that comes from complaining. This got overly long 😅, but my final thought was that I remember bookmarking it to refer to again in the future - so clearly past me found it to be worth a re-read at some point. Did you have that thought with any of these in the video? I don't usually buy a book unless I think I will read it at least twice or give it to someone else to read.
Some great books mentioned. Best wishes and happy reading.
Thank you for watching 😊 and you too! All the best 🙏✨️
Thank you. I'm going to check out a few of these. 💜💜💜
😊 Nice, let me know if you do and what you think of them! Thanks for watching and the comment, appreciate it 👍
Fourth Wing was better than I thought it was going to be, but it didn't make me want to pick up the second book in the series. The September House by Carissa Orlando is my favorite this year so far
Yeah I liked Fourth wing and was intrigued by the ending but didnt get into the second book at all. I'll take a look at the September House, cheers for the recommendation
Thank you! Really great video, I had no idea about that translation of Meditations, I’ll definitely look into it! Alsooo as a friendly suggestion, you could put the Amazon links of each book in the description box that way we can access the book more easily and they give you a small commission for the referral, so it’s a win-win situation!
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers for the tip too, I'll definitely look into that and see if I can set it up!
I have the same experience with Meditations, I try to read it and it doesn’t hook me. I guess this is the sign to give it another try. You should read Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey, brilliant book.
Definitely get the Hayes translation, much more modern language, and far easier to understand. I have heard good things, ill check it out thanks!
The winds of grace are always blowing but one needs to raise the sail
Beautiful - I don't know the quote. Where's it from?
for a moment I thought you read 100 books AGAIN and was like "woah, slow down" :') Thanks for the recommendations!
😅 no I don't think I'll be doing that again any time soon! You're welcome thanks for watching 👍
Used to love reading in my young days; nothing sophisticated, just novels, but not got the concentration now, and in any case, I now spend my spare time taking and editing my photos! Lol! However, I have read a couple of the Thursday Murder Club stories and enjoyed those a lot at the time.
I feel ya. Despite big numbers last year, this year I've struggled to keep reading. Photography and RUclips taken up more of my time and it is hard to keep the concentration up. One of the few I've read this year was Richard Osman's latest one 'We Solve Murders' and enjoyed that. I'm away at the moment but reading Fellowship of the Ring on my kindle
@@georgecuckooThat's a good idea using your Kindle. You've reminded me I have the Kindle app on my phone! I should use it! 😊
Tbh i am not a big reader so fair play for reading 100 books George 👊👊👍
It was tough going. I'm noe only on like 3 or 4 this year, last year was over doing it 😅
Love Marcus Aurelius - I keep it by my bedside table and flip through it and read a passage every now and then.
Definitely one to return back to. Have you read any of Ryan Holidays books on stoicism? Would recommend those too if you like Meditations
Awesome idea mate, I'm tired just watching hahaha
Haha thanks Ryan 🙏appreciate you checking it out!
George Cook you are a Birdwatching legend!
Haha 😇you are too kind
OH MY GOD DID THE RSPB JUST COMMENT ON YOUR VIDEO !? WELL DONE!!!😱😱
I know right?! 😱Highlight of my RUclips journey so far for sure! thank you @rspbvideo 💙🙏✨️
Swallows are ridiculously fast !
So fast! Trying to photograph them or swifts is always tricky. 100s of photos and maybe 1 or 2 that are in focus 😅
Hahahahaha love it
🤣
This must be the best birding video ever! I don't know how you managed to get through all of that, but the hobby gave you the adrenalin rush to finish your task! A huge well done to you and thank you for sharing this superb video with us! I don't think you will be able to top this one!!
Wow thank you! That's such a nice comment. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Really really appreciate it thank you. Not sure how I can top it to be fair. Birdwatching ultramarathon?!
Great video George really enjoyed watching and have subscribed!!! I started my youtube channel this year on my journey through wildlife and I'm always on the lookout for new places, so this is 100% going on the list haha!
Thanks so much Ryan. Really appreciate the comment. I've just subscribed to your channel too. I started properly about a year ago now so hope we can support each other on our wildlife youtube journeys!

Brilliant video George! What a brilliant concept and carried out so spectacularly! A great species list along a herculean route. You really showed off the best of the avalon marshes - I need to get out there. Particularly enjoyed the hobby near the end, looked like it gave you a bit of an energy boost! The music and editing were great as well overall a fantastic video.
Jackson, thank you so much for leaving such a nice comment. I really appreciate it man thank you! That hobby really did lift the spirits for sure. I was so over it at that point, totally wrecked and then a brief glimpse of a bird and I was suddenly laughing and smiling again 😅 The power of birds! Thanks again for the lovely comment 👍
🤣🤣🤣👍
As someone who hates running hats off to you! 😂 Great video and awesome that you saw so many different species.
Thanks Hollie - seeing lovely birds definitely makes running more enjoyable 😅 Thank you so much for watching the vid and for the comment 🙏😊
