I very well remember hearing this song on the radio, never dreaming I would play it one day on the radio.

When I would visit Salmon, Idaho as a little kid in the ‘70s, my uncle would listen to this song over and over; it was the only 8-track he had in his truck. I will never forget it.

I think this song means . When they recorded this , they really outdone themselves . She harmonizes very well . He doesn't have the dignity to tell her that he doesn't love her anymore behind closed doors. He had to do it in public , that made it worse . She can't bear to be there any longer . She wants to escape as far and as quickly as possible . So she won't keep anything that reminds her of him . So she can start a new chapter in her life . This song made it to #9 on the charts in 1971, but I had assumed all these years it made it to #1 ... or AT LEAST in the top 5. However, it did neither. How did this not at least make it into the top 5? Anyway, I was 6 yrs old when this song came out, however I don't remember it when it came out. Still, It brings back memories from a younger time in my life.

WOW! Brings back memories of my Senior year in 1972, when our Ben Davis High School Marching Giants marched in the Rose Parade. We were the first 747 flying out of Indianapolis to L.A. New Year's week. Mom and Dad said the plane barely made the runway over I 465. lol, Dust flying up from the unfinished runway....This song brings tears to my eyes to this day, and the sweet lady that sang it. This is the first time in over 40 years that I've heard this song. It's been haunting my memories for a few weeks, so I decided to look it up. Glad I did. I still remember hearing it on WSM 650 out of Nashville, Tennessee as a kid. This is real country music and it's a shame that we don't hear new songs of this quality anymore.
