this is a start of a journey for a young man learning from a pair of old men. we are going to teach Trenten Hall all of the tricks that his father and I have learned over the years. so if you like what you see please subscribe and Curt Hall and I I will take you along for the ride also.
I have the exact motor. I changed the impeller & tested it on muffs. NO WATER coming out the weep hole. I pulled it apart thinking the tube didn't line up but everything was correct. tested again & still no water. Come to find out that this engine has to be submerged into water. When I did water sprayed out. Lesson learned the hard way. DO NOT use muffs!
Thank you for this video. I couldn't have done this without this video.
Anyone able to help me with putting the impeller housing back together I tried and it doesnt look the same as in the video like i have a gap and not sure whats wrong
Hello! Big fan - can you help me find a source for learning how to use the mercury ignition analyzer mark I?
@@andrewsheneman2135 let me see if I can find my book on that
Good operating
Hi Terry, re the Tractor piston (manufacturer) I sent to you.I dont know why the info gets removed on you tube. I will try to send this info again on this other video reply... It is J.D. Pistons at 25 Innes st windsor gardens Adelaide south australia 5087 Australia... I twice sent this info, but it doesnt come thri i believe... If not agaain I can always send my email info. I am very interested in old Mercury motors,I have a 1967 110 Hp that has been reconditioned by others.
HI Terry, there is a piston manufacturer in Klemzig Adelaide Australia. I havent been there for a number of years, but i can check it out if there still open.
Thank you
Hello. I lost the adjusting screw, I don't know how it looks. Can you take a picture of him for me please?
Give me a day or two and I'll make it happen
@@Terry2theGremlin I don't even know what diameter the ball is. If you unscrew the screw and take some pictures, maybe you have a measuring tool, measure it, you can also measure the ball, please. Thank you very much for the help.
I bought my RK 37 back in Nov 2017. Honestly I should have gone with the 55 cuz the 37 is a little light in the loafers for stacking round bales. Also it is challenging to find accessories (like with your mirrors). But other than that I have no complaints. I've been very satisfied with the performance of the tractor. I am looking at wheel weights for my RK37. I see that you have the suitcase weights for yours and your friend has the same for his TYN 354. Where did you get the weight rack and weights? Anyone have any info on the bolt pattern for the RK37? I found wheel weights that are supposed to fit the T350 & T353, but couldn't find the specs on the tractor itself...
The weights are resting on 4 inch by 1/2 inch plate steel that is welded on to a t bar that was gotten from tractor supply
I ran one for about 5 months or so. Great little quick machine with decent power too. Just the swing was pretty grabby, really had to stay on it, but after that great.
Don’t they have completely different engines?
No not at all
Nice 👍
These were great machines
Hi Terry, can faulty switchboxes be repaired internally? Thanks
Yes but it is a very time consuming process. You have to dig out a ton of potting Material to get to the board. It took me days to free the board it the one I did
Hiya Terry,Thanks(and Wife) for youre info of the Mercury 6 inline video. I was Happy to see and hear of you in this video. Keep on Keeping on and do what you do,especially to help all others.Regards Trevor from Adelaide Australia
do you know where I can buy a few feet of the color coded wires for a merc 650 in the 2207872 series or 2872319? red, yellow, gray, black, salmon, white and brown?
Not sure anymore maybe CDI
I still wish I could bring my Mark 10 over to you! I'm in AuGres, Michigan and I'd pay you to put impeller and that troll linkage

I have had the same trouble with my R K 37 with the forklift blades and Crapple. I have put a golf cart roof on the top of the rops and some all thread rods where the mirrors fit in too. Strapped to the top of the rops Also covered the all thread with red pex pipe. This way, the roof stays real flexible in case you hit branches. And covers the seat, Works like a big submarine
This was supposed to be a big sombrero
Mannnnmmmnmmm you save me thankkkkskkskskskskksksk
Thankyou for your review,i like your experienced and effective modifi.
We owned one back in the 70s. Great Boat. Would like to see the design in a 23 foot.
Ive been on youtube/google for about 2 hours now and finally found this video. I cant find a good pinout for the main plug on my merc 800. It has a distributor just like this setup. I probed around with 12v and couldnt get any lightning. I DID NOT put 12v to both those poles like you did here.. hopefully my boat motor screams tomorrow. Thank you for this.
Hope this helps
@@Terry2theGremlin it did, i posted a vid of it running on my channel. Thanks again man, couldnt have done it w/o this video lol
I replaced an impeller and put the lower unit back on on my 2003 2 Stroke 40 HP Mercury outboard. I can get the engine into forward and reverse and into neutral. If I move the propeller by hand clockwise I hear a clicking/clunking noise 4 times per full rotation of the propeller. Is this normal? Most would never know unless you turned the prop by hand. With the motor running you could never hear it.
Yes that is normal .if you pull it in forward or reverse and turn it you hear it click. It has not clutch just gears
@@Terry2theGremlin Whew..........thanks!!!! And your video was really good.
Nice. I just got my RK37
After doing mine there is a few things not mentioned here. You do not need a slide hammer, after removing the ring come in from the top and tap the transmission out....LOOK IN there first and tap on the cartridge NOT the housing it sets in...you will ruin it if you break that. A piece of flat bar ground the right width will take that left hand threaded ring off that holds everything in.. When you put your GEAR BOX or lower end with the propeller back on to the studs DO NOT jamb it on...the one gear on the lower unit must MESH with the two small gears in the leg or the TRANSMISSION you just installed. There is no gasket between these two parts in my parts diagram so I just used permatex motoseal(grey). When you unhook your shift rod make sure you flip the little lever the rod from the motor goes into up....must face up...straight up when reassembling transmission. The measurement he said was to his first knuckle...or 1 inch or so is 1 1/16 inch....the transmission sets in there at an angle 1 1/16 is the deepest measurement, on the side where the studs are. If you have less than that SOMETHING did not go fully in place, the impeller cartridge or impeller its self or something...it WILL NOT WORK. The impeller most places are selling including oldmercs is a sierra 18-3008 impeller and you need to file the keyway JUST A BIT, square it up a bit for it to fit....BE CAREFUL it does not take much....try it on the driveshaft til it slides over key in shaft easily, it will make assembly easier.
Hey, are you located in Michigan by chance? I have a '56 Mark 10 and need to do this
@@ALVintageOutboards Sorry Doug no, I am in Canada.
@@outboardfixer I see. Well, I liked your Chrysler 20 video for sure! Nice paint work 💯. I have 2 Chrysler 20's from 1968 that I run weekly if not daily all spring, summer and fall and I love them both!
@@ALVintageOutboards They are GREAT motors....a little heavy maybe but well built. Good luck with your Merc. Seaway marine outside Seattle has impellers, impeller cartridges and other parts to fit your 10. John Macintosh has Mercury tools and parts as well also in the states.
I have the same model RK and agree with you. Always have been a big brand tractor guy living in a rural farming county, after comparing all the brands available locally ended up with the 37 and haven't been one bit disappointed. My main uses for it are brush hogging and firewooding, love the granite grapple too. Would have liked the cab for brush hogging but like you said it would have been a no go in the woods. So far all I can say is, she's a little tank with plenty of power. I you need a store with parts and support check out the Greenville,Oh store, it'll be a good bit closer for ya.
So happy you like yours I am still working this one hard about every day. That store is closer so thank you.
Like your uptake and honest working review, can we get more please, great review! Thankyou.
It looks like the RK has adjustable arms on the 3 pt hitch.
How did you wire the bar light?
I just ran a hot wire from the Accelerate hot wire on the back of the tractor to a switch next to the Bucket control Lever
I have a Mark 10 and the tiller is off but stuck will not turn. I have soaked it in pb blaster and barely any movement. Do you know how to disassemble.
I don't at this time
Are you in Michigan?
Yes I am in west Michigan
@@Terry2theGremlin Man I have a 1957 7 mark 10 with that shifting thing and when I got it everything was missing on the trolling lever but I got it now I just have no idea how it goes together
@@Terry2theGremlin That extra 7 in there isn't supposed to be there , but I got all of the linkage now from L and L vintage outboards in Kawkawlin, Michigan. The engine looks to be in super nice shape I wouldn't think it has 10 hours on it II wanted to find somebody who could fix it for me fix it for me or show me how to do it.
@@Terry2theGremlin I'm on the East side, Saginaw Bay, Pt AuGres.
When I slow down I'll be more than happy to help you out
RK tractors are made by TYM I have the RK55 TLB
Could of used a 9volt battery
I can see why the Mechanics at the Dealerships hated the Engines with this 'Automatic Transmission'
Real minty tutorial 👍🏼 mine was from 1997 and it is identical
I am restoring an 81 SSV 167 and my gelcoat is as bad or worse than yours but seeing how yours turned out after gives me hope. Boat looks amazing after you finished.
My 40 doesn't have the linkage jam nut....
Got my spine I got my Orange Crush.
Just trying to find out where you got mirror kits for rk? Hope you still having good luck with your rk. Thanks a ton
Is there any way you could get me a part number for the water pump pulley or maybe some dimensions?
Did you end up replacing your bottom rollers/idlers? Was curious what you used for them.
Have not got to putting the new chains on. But if I can't fit one I will rebuild the ones that need to be. I'll make new bushings
Have you found replacement bottom rollers?
@@marchoodjer4926 not yet still looking
Good evening Terry I purchased a 6608 same model you have, I'm looking for the center idler that sits above the rail. Please advise ?
Terry, if mine doesn’t arc with a new coil, does that mean the switch box is not good?
Yes
@@Terry2theGremlin thank you sir!
Bought 6 cdi coils for my 2.5, lost 1st one after a year, junked them all and bought Quicksilver. CDI is Alabama made garbage.
I’ve got an RK 55 😃 Love it! 😊
that coupling with jam nut is it easy to turn mine is really hard it feels like i’m gonna snap it and i need a few more turns to get back to original setting it’s not stripped any suggestions
Very nice. I have the same vessel but in blue and without the new engine.
The next size up is RK55 and yes it will lift more than the RK37 around 500-800 lbs more
Thanks for posting this. Getting ready to do it on a '58. What a horrible design for serviceability. Typical Mercury.
Très belle vidéo Très beau tracteur et très bien équipé Doit être très agréable à conduire. J'aimerais bien l'essayer, dommage qu'il n'y en ait pas en France. J'adore 👍😀
