Knafs Lander 3 Review - An Iterative Design Done Right
Просмотров 15619 часов назад
Hello there! This is a review of the Knafs Co. Lander 3, designed by Ben Petersen. Overall, the Lander 3 is an iteration of the Lander series. It is the same size as the Lander 1 but utilizes Kizer's Clutch Lock and improved S35VN. I have really enjoyed this contoured moondust micarta version which has patinaed beautifully with the month or so of carry I have put it through. Even though I reall...

Demko AD20.5 Slicer Review - Is it really that slicey?
Просмотров 8614 дней назад
Hello there! This is a review of the Demko Knives AD20.5 Slicer. Overall, the AD20.5 Slicer is the normal AD20.5 with a slightly different blade shape which attempts to be thinner and has no thumb stud. While I have really enjoyed the shark lock and overall carry experience, I would say the slicer grind is still not very slicey and the absence of a thumb stud is annoying in some situations. How...
Spyderco Alcyone Review - Is it as good as Spyderco's other offerings?
Просмотров 25821 день назад
Hello there! This is a review of the Spyderco Alcyone. The Alcyone is one of Spyderco's budget, Chinese offerings. As with many of Spyderco's Chinese line, the action is stiff and somewhat hydraulic after it has been broken in. However, in comparison to many other Chinese-made knives in the same price range, the Alcyone falls short in a few respects. The specs of this knife can be found at the ...
Microtech Scarab II Gen 3 Review - Loud and Proud
Просмотров 42328 дней назад
Hello there! This is a review of the Microtech Scarab II Gen 3. I have absolutely loved carrying the Scarab II Gen 3!! The new Dual Fuel Drivetrain puts all of the old Microtechs to shame in both speed and smoothness while the rest of the knife is machined almost perfectly! My biggest issue with my last Microtech, the Glykon, is fixed now as well with an excellent edge! The specs of this knife ...

Knafs Lander 1 Review - Tiny But Mighty
Просмотров 68Месяц назад
Hello there! This is a review of the Knafs Lander 1. The Lander 1 is the first in the Lander series and although versions like the Lander 3 have iterated on the design, the Lander 1 still holds up as an excellent piece. The only complaint we found was the slight difficulty accessing the liner lock with gloves or when you are in a hurry. The specs of this knife can be found at the bottom of the ...
Reate EXO-M Review - One of (if not the) Best Gravity Knives on the Market
Просмотров 337Месяц назад
Hello there! This is a review of the Reate EXO-M. Overall, this is a fantastically priced gravity knife with both "budget" and "premium" renditions. The carry experience is fantastic and with the many versions that go in and out of stock, there is a version available for almost anyone. The specs of this knife can be found at the bottom of the description. If you own this knife, please comment o...
Mantis Knives Gearhead Review
Просмотров 1812 месяца назад
Hello there! This is a review of the Mantis Knives Gearhead. Overall, this is a very unique knife by Hawk Designs (the people behind the Deadlock and Shortcut). However, the use of a liner lock with an open front face of the knife, it makes using the knife beyond simple cuts difficult. That paired with the high price tag and only ok material set, the Gearhead is a difficult pill to swallow unle...
Benchmade Mini Adamas Review - A hard-use folder with masterful ergonomics
Просмотров 4652 месяца назад
Hello there! This is a review of the Benchmade Mini Adamas. Overall, the Mini Adamas is a small, hard-use folder with an excellent heat treat. To my XL glove hands, the Mini Adamas fits my hand perfectly and is an ergonomics machine, but if you are on the larger side of XL or larger, the Adamas might be a better fit. The specs of this knife can be found at the bottom of the description. If you ...

Jack Wolf Knives Vampire Jack Review - A perfect EDC slipjoint
Nice looking knife. Great job telling us about it too. 👍👊
Thank you! Always a fan of Elijah Isham's designs 🔪🔥
Cool knife. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching!
Nice review 🤙 How is the action? I had a Marfione Custom Two-Tone Stonewash Hefted Black Alloy w/ Stonewash Ti Accents just over two years ago. Nice design, but it was very difficult to fire and retract (not smooth and quite stiff). More than I’ve ever experienced with a MT or Marfione Custom. I returned it. That being said, I heard that the action is smoother on the newer Glykons. I really want to grab a Glykon Outbreak. I love the theme and pre-distressing.
Thank you! My Glykon has been very smooth. Of course, the side switch is not the greatest for deployment, but it can be done and does not have any rough feeling. It is running some sort of intermediary drive train between the old gen and the dual fuel stuff which makes it easier to actuate and feel a bit smoother than my older gen ultratech for sure.
@ Thanks for the feedback. I may have to give the Glykon another shot then.Mine was one of the first Glykons released and the action was stiff AF or it was just me 😂
Of course! Thank you for asking. If that does not work, the dual fuel drive train models are a lot less stiff but have the downside of a bit longer pull length
I am going to give the Glykon another shot. I just ordered the Outbreak 🙌 Not sure if I would dig the longer pull length of the new duel fuel drive train mechanism anyways but it is an option for easier action.
Great, I hope it works out well!
i cant find what degree to sharpen at 20???
I am not sure what you mean?
@ I wanted to resharpen my knife, I have the same GTX-025. I couldn’t find anywhere online at what angle the knife gets sharpened to from the factory. But I ended up sharpening the blade at a 22 Degree angle, and I can shave hair with it now.
Great! I will have to reprofile my edge as well when I sharpen mine...
I worried about the blade finish, was considering black blade, but does it wear off more that apocoliotic stone finish?
Microtech is known for having a thinner coating than say Spyderco and is more similar to Benchmade. With decent carry for a month or so, there is one "mark" on it (not huge, just a bit lighter than the rest). I honestly cant complain and it might have been me hitting a staple which caused that. If you are really worried about the coating wearing off, go with apocalyptic. I have carried my Glykon with that finish and it hides wear very well! If you want the best wear hider, the normal stone washed finish will be the best.
@ Are all the black microtech blades DLC? Or is this yet another finish. If not dlc, what is it?
Most coatings that Microtech uses are PVD, but there are DLC models, mostly the Shadow variants.
The 110 8s not really an edc knife. It is a hunting knife that can be carried for edc. I just keep mine in my pocket, no sheath.
Yes, it is a bit bunky compared to modern, but still a fantastic tool which I have enjoyed!
As a Spyderco addict/collector (19 and counting) I started to be a baby and not use them. So I picked up the Alycone about a year ago and its been my go to EDC since. Great little knife, sharpens back easily, and I beat the ever loving sh out of it. That and literally my first Tenacious (the one that started it all) are almost always found on my desk or in my pocket.
Also, to be fair my Civivi baby banter and full banter are in the rotation as well
Yes, it is a good user! I love my Tenacious as well (my first Spyderco too), but I haven't acquired as much of a Spyderco collection yet!!
this one isn't meant to be practical, it was designed to be unique. Mine, damascus and aluminum, sits in a lighted curio cabinet with other knives I bought just to look at.
Yes, I totally agree. I just think for the price, there could be some better materials and/or build quality for a knife made in China
Years ago, i had a Subaru Alcyone and got tons of crap for pronouncing it the (correct!) way you are. Never had the knife, but that just made tons of memories flood back.
Yes! I had to do a lot of research to make sure I was saying it correctly!! I hope you enjoyed the review!
I just bought that with top serrations
Cool! How are they? I have not tried any of Microtech's serrated blades, but I have heard great things!
Just got this exact same knife in today. It’s beautiful. It’s my favorite blade shape by far.
Yes, the blade shape was one of the things that tipped me over to getting it!
Based on your review just ordered one from Americaedgedknives, red g10 version. Paid $ 560 and hope I like it. Lol. American made was a big plus.
Great! I really hope and think you will enjoy it! I have continued to carry mine and still absolutely love it!!
This is probably my favorite out of the gen 3 otfs from Microtech. I love what they were able to do with the Ultratech but the action on that knife isn’t smooth. It’s easier to actuate, yes, but it still isn’t smooth. The other gen 3 otfs are so much smoother. I wonder if it has anything to do with the ZBT mechanism.
Yes, while I have only experienced two, the Scarab is my favorite as well!
I've carried a Buck 110 since around 78. Great and dependable knife. But the "new one" doesn't hold a candle to all the other non-Buck "new ones." Where to begin...
Indeed! While the ebony/brass ones are a little outdated, they are still definitely classics.
Great video! I am in the market for one of these and your review was helpful
Thank you! Lynch Northwest makes great products all around, I highly recommend them!!
I carry a knife on my belt every day, normally a case 174 changer which has a kinda bulky sheath with extra blades for doing certain things, and I swap to a case 6265 SAB double hunter or a buck 110 occasionally. So I think this knife is made for people like me that already carry similar knives.
It definately has that charm of older knives. I still really enjoy it as I pretty much always have a traditional knife of some sort on me as well!
Subscribed to both you and GondekEDC hank of the month club. Thanks for sharing
Great! Thank you for watching, we hope you enjoy!!
The HMBS first appeared on the Hinderer model that this knife is (arguably, i guess...) based on, the MP1.
Ok, thank you for the info! I do not know a whole lot about Hinderer, so that is much appreciated!
Mine is on the way from Bladehq. It'll be my first gravity knife. I'm excited.
Great! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
I'm EDC'ing the cleaver in titanium, absolutely love it. It's a little tank, super solid, feels great in hand, holds an edge, takes lots of abuse. And looks cool too. Maybe my all time favorite knife, and that's saying something. I also have the clip point, but the larger choil of the cleaver lets me put my finger up on the blade; that doesn't really work with the clip point. FYI, the bronze finish wore off the titanium but that's ok with me.
Thanks for the info on the clever, I had no idea! I hope you enjoyed the video!!
Very nice looking knife. I love the sound a gravity knife makes. 👍🔪
Thanks! It is just as fidgety!!
I just bought this exact knife for my son in law for Christmas. I was thinking that maybe I should have went with a different color but now that I saw your video, I think he will love it!
Great! I agree he will love it!
Sound/Voice is bad.
Love mine, and it fits into my small hands so well! I don’t like when the sheath sticks to the side of my work truck while attached to my neck though lol
Great! Even with our slight issues with the knife overall, still very recommendable!
I love this knife, once i got it in hand i had no regrets about the price tag. Worth every penny in my opinion.
Great!! I had the same feeling, hope you continue to enjoy it! What colorway did you get?
I have the knife, don’t love it. It’s magnacut, but I’m pretty sure the heat treat isn’t great. From factory has side to side play and rocks up and down. Never going to buy a Benchmade again
Yeah, BM's heat treat on Magnacut is not great (around 60-62 hrc) in terms of edge retention of it prioritizing toughness. I can confirm the Cru-Wear is much better in the edge retention respect. Factory up-and-down play is somewhat normal for Axis-style locks, so I would not be concerned about it. Side-to-side play should go away with a tiny turn of the pivot! Still, we hope you enjoyed the video!
love the dessert warrior takedown mat.
Thank you!
Thanks for your review! I heard some reviewers talk about not liking the big gap on the lock interface. Is that something that you noticed?
Thank you for watching! When watching reviews before I purchased, I heard this a few times as well, but honestly, I might even have a slight preference for how the Gen 2 is milled due to the lock bar having a more consistent spacing with the rest of the back scale (for a lack of a better term, the "outline" of the lock bar). It serves no functional difference though, really it is up to you whether you want a very thin "outline" that gets thicker at the lock interface or a consistent "outline" which is just a thicker outline around the lockbar as a whole. For reference, it is slightly wider than a Sebenza 31 and I have not noticed it in use.
@ thanks so much for your reply, I think I am ready now… :)
Great review! 👍🏼
Thank you!
Nice job man..
Thank you so much! I hope it was helpful.
Cool looking hank! Perfect for the fall.
Agreed!! 🍂🦃
good video keep up the good work
Thank you, we really appreciate it!
Thanks for the shoutout in the comments. You guys really do a great job on your videos. I don’t understand why you don’t have a lot more subscribers. Please keep it up, your hard work will pay off. 👊
Of course, thank you for your support!! Thank you so much, it means a lot!! We have been enjoying it a lot and do not plan to stop! Excited to hear from you more!!🍻
Hey all! If you have been watching the EDC Empire for a while, you may have seen us review the Spyderco Tenacious before (Hence the ReReview). Put it most simply, the EDC Empire is run by two friends (one of us does the editing and a majority of the reviews and the other does some reviews and the QC. Well, the first video that the second of us ever recorded was on this knife but it got struck down due to "dangerous activities." After taking a rigorous course from YT, we have learned our lesson and now have had to put disclaimers on any and all videos that contain any bladed implements or anything else that could be considered dangerous. If you happened upon that video and then never got to finish it, we hope this makes up for it! A special thank you to @RadioGeekBlades for the kind words on that video in particular, we did see it and it was much appreciated!
Great video sir! Quite enjoyed your analysis and agree with all your observations! Keep up the awesome work! Also have you tried to front flip it? That has become my main deployment of mine 😅
Thank you!! No, I have not but I am not sure how you can manage it? For me, there is nothing protruding for a front flip to be possible (like how you can front flip a sebenza), did you modify yours?
Great review and knife. It’s a bit out of my range but I love hearing about different knives. You really need to carry it and a Ozark trails knife together. 😂
Thank you!! I actually just got the Ozark a couple of days ago (for a similar purpose), so I think I will have to do that! Thanks for the idea! 😂
Very nice thanks for the review. Im thinking of getting this or the makro and doubting between the clip point or sheepfoot blade.
Thank you! I would say go for whichever you like the look of most, but the sheepsfoot has a bit more utility in my opinion.
Impressive review. Thanks!
Thank you!!
This little blade is so sick! I bought one last week and just ordered its big brother, the Makro!
That's awesome! Glad you enjoy the mikro as well!
Which one you like better and which blade shape?
I've only tried the Mikro, so I can't really speak to Mikro vs. Makro, but the Mikro 2 with the sheepsfoot blade shape has a bit more utility than the Mikro 1 with the drop point shape.
Nice! I want one.
Agreed, it is a fantastic little knife. There was a sale on it at BHQ a couple of weeks ago, it is possible other retailers will do the same!
Love my pm3...these made in usa?
Yes! To my knowledge, any Kershaw with an American flag is.
Great review! I’ve had a Blur in the collection for quite a while, but only recently started carrying it. The Blur is such an awesome knife! Looking forward to more of your reviews!
Thank you! Agreed, I have been really enjoying it as well! Looking forward to hearing more from you!!
That’s a nice little EDC knife. Kershaw makes some nice knives.
Agreed! I was pleasantly surprised when I got it.
Great little knife. I lost mine years ago ,may pick up another one.
Indeed! I am sorry to hear that, hopefully you get around to that soon!
Cool looking hanks. Thanks for showing them off. 👍
Thanks for checking out this and all of the other videos! 🔪
Mine is running on bronze washers not nylon. Also despite having 100% lockup I've had zero problems with it and there's no lock stick or blade play at all. Though I can't fully tear it down cuz they used some super heavy duty loctite on scales. I wish the build quality was just as good as the design.
That is completely my fault, you are correct, it does run on phosphor bronze washers. That is interesting and good to hear about the lockup and play. I ran into the same issue with the pocket clip and now cannot remove it as the screw stripped; another benefit of larger fasteners.
Great review on this little knife. Thanks for telling us about it. 👍
Thanks!
No link?
Since prices can vary among retailers because of sales and availability, we don't feel that it is best to provide links. This is a model that is available at most of the main retailers (BHQ, Knife Center, DLT Trading, etc.), so if you want to get it, pick your favorite retailer, whatever you have the most rewards points at, or whoever has a sale.
BUCK website
Pretty much half the states allow auto knives, if not more. To me this is almost a novelty knife as modern auto knives with modern materials and lock systems far outclass this as working or EDC knives. But it's still cool!
Totally agree, if you're not in love, it's not worth it, an equally priced ProTech will probably be more convenient.
Nice review dropped a sub looking forward to more videos.
Thanks!
