He holed a piston dumb ass.....BOOM! Detenation is MF!
After a full crank, rebore new piston build what would be your running in recommendations. Just had one done and slightly nervous
@@dccsound9209 Hey mate, after every rebuild I’ve done I have said just ride the bike normally don’t go and ring its neck down the quarter mile to see how fast it goes. Do a couple of heat cycles gentle rides get some kms down and it’s a 2-stroke they’re made to rev just don’t abuse it! Enjoy your ride 👍
Love this… I have two rd 350Lc s… great fun both non original. Hybrid upgrades
Fantastic vid. Nice , clear and very informative
im at a 66.0 bore on cylinders considering going to 66.50 wondering how yours ran? did you open head gaskets for dome clearance? i also had to use a thicker cyl base gasket to run pump gas did you have any detonation problems
@@bobpugliese4428 Hey mate mine runs great and don’t have any detonating problems, I run good oil and fuel and have no problems plus I’m running std base gaskets. Someone must have either machined the tops of the cylinders or something to raise the compression? You might want to check your port timing if you’re going to raise the cylinders to lower compression.
@rechargegarage8705 thank you! I have dg heads on mine and the domes were opened to 66.50 for piston clearance. The head gaskets were opened to 66.50 also.

Research @ YamAHA REVEALED that keeping these high performance machines in the RED line constantly 4 more than 15 mins to hAlf an hour flat out all the time without a break can destroy any high performance 2 stroke. It's even written in some TURBO 4stoke bikes and cars(written in the owners manual). After each flat out red line run for 15 mins, close throttle to run slowly, mid speed(speed limit)- or stop and take a brake. Nice vid, hope the owner learned a lesson. !!!!

Revved the nutz out of it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These riders only learn when the blow an engine...!!!!
Good mechanic U, Aluminium in xHaust, piston, steel parts big end and small end roller bearings. bet u the auto lube system failed 1st. Best to premix wit these old bikes !!!????? ps . gave it a like!!!
@@nicmost3044 thanks mate I did talk with the owner and he’s going to put it on pre-mix getting rid of the oil pump, my bikes are all pre-mix.👍
1st thing a friend I know did with all his rotary Wankel Mazdas, RX2, RX7's. Removed the Autolube pumps, Increased the jet size of the Weber, Keihin, Mikuni or Nikki carbs by .05 of a mm. That's 2 compensate 4 the increase in viscosity of the premixed fuel & oil mix. Just let it run slightly more rich, We had no engines cease!!!! RE

Pre YPVC [[ the era of the Energy Induction??]] ,,, coz I think, Called RD/RZ 350 between middle 2 L8 1983 and 2 early 1984(YPVS) or mayb some countries different. In SA, Zimbabwe, and other southern African countries, also AUSSIE & KIWi called a RZ 350, England, Europe and the US, Canada etc. Called a RD 350 With Prominent YPVS decals. Beautiful bike, beautiful country and great flyby's! 👍
You deserve the like and new subscription for identifying the fact that Honda bearings will reject Yamaha grease
@@SevieBallesterous yeah it didn’t like that at all 😆👍
Hey mate where did you end up sourcing rhe right piston I’m trying to find one in aus too.
@@Graters1989 Hey mate I ended up getting one from eBay Indonesia and it was a RS125 piston kit the rx125 piston kit was to short in the crown height which I explained in my video. The kit was a Hamuroke GT piston kit .50 size the engine prefix matches a Rs125 not RX125 that’s why the piston was different. Good luck I found your channel I’ll have watch and see what your up to 👍
@ thanks mate. Been a huge help. Appreciate it!
Hey mate I have the exact same bike do you know where I could find a stator for mine BC there really old and rare now I can't find one
@@SnowFlake548 Hey mate I found a couple on eBay but yes they are getting hard to find there’s a couple in the USA and one in Australia. Good luck 👍
@rechargegarage8705 hey could you put the link for them in the comment pls and I'll check itnout
Hi guys , where you buy parts for that old motorbike? I have kawasaki kx250 1992
@@mantas96x Hey mate your local motorcycle shop should be able to source parts for you, aftermarket engine parts from Pro-x pretty much get everything or have a look on eBay, you can still get pretty much everything for those bikes.👍
Not sure I would be revving out like that on fresh bores tbh, as a carefully run in two stroke engine will almost certainly have a longer life expectancy. Still a good upload though.
Great video mate😊 thank you for sharing. You’re an excellent mechanic topknot.😊
You’re a great mechanic. I enjoyed the video I used to be a mechanic and a lawnmower shop boss breathing over me all day with this done. Get that done. Do that do this? You don’t know what you’re missing. You’re working on the engine that nobody else wants to work on nowadays they want the easy Harley Davidson Old school.😊
@@Jeff-hb1qq thanks Jeff glad you enjoyed it, I just do this on the side on my days off so no pressure from any bosses 👍
Love the 2 smoke, are you autolube or premix ? I had a 1973 rd350 burgundy in color my father bought it brand new for me to ride to school and at 16 I was the most popular dude in school and the fastest.
@@ThomasMurrell-zb5vg thanks Thomas its pre-mix, I don’t trust the old auto lube system.👍
Excellent
Thank you! Cheers!
Where did you score the stickers mate. I've looked here in Australia can't find them anywhere. Cheers,
@@SlickAussie I got my sign writer to copy the original and printed new ones.👍
Apologies to the owner but that colour scheme does not suit the F/G model at all sorry, still a great bike though all the same. As much as I love my own ‘Daytona’ style bikes, the coffin tank models will always be the ducks guts imho. In fact, I literally just picked my RD400E competition yellow set from my painter just this afternoon and it look simply stunning.
@@markleadbeatter6196 he knows it’s the wrong colour but that’s they way he bought it and he’s going to repaint to the original colour.👍
I noticed that haven't ground the valves in did they have new valve seats cut. And did you do a compression test?
@@kwakgreen the seats were cut to suit the new valves, I didn’t do a compression test that’s my bad.
It might be your mic placement but the top end sounded like a bag of spanners! Are the rockers getting a good supply of oil? If they aren’t, it might explain the horrendous wear on the valve stems. Was there wear on the rockers where they contact the valve stems?
@@lindsaysampford3190 Hey Lindsay, the rockers had no wear on them considering the damage to the valves or I would have replaced them as well, this bike put me through the ringer but it really needs a new set of carbs to get it to run rite, to many air leaks from worn slides and needles. I set the valve clearance to factory specs and had some help from Union Jack motorcycles as to why this had happened. 👍
I listened to other Tridents on RUclips; maybe they all sound like that; it’s that famous Triumph ‘valve rustle’ plus half as much again!
Love it!
Cheers, much appreciated 👍
Love the video couldn’t stand to listen to that horrible music though😊 I love that bike😊
Cheers mate I know what you mean about the music, the music was just for the video editing process. 👍
fresh….
That sound and beauty❤
Have you ported the cylinder ?
@@Graters1989 hey mate, not yet but it’s coming.👍
@ yea just looked and your intake bridge looked thinner than stock. Nice one. Is the rd carb a 28mm?
@ It’s just a stock RD350 carb,intake and reed block.
I ported the intake side out a bit to fit the RD reed block in.
@ rd350 block with phenolic reeeds ?
Beautiful parts makes you never want to leave the garage
Awesome!! I love it! Sounds amazing!
Please could you let us know from which bike n model are the yokes from ?
@@claytonmenezes5980 hi mate I’m not sure what you guys refer as a yoke? But I’m assuming it’s the fork triple clamp? It all came out of the 1995 CBR600F fitted straight in with the Allballs bearing conversion kit.👍
@rechargegarage8705 thanks a million
I take it you gapped the piston rings and chamfered the upper and lower edges of all the ports in the barrel after having them bored ?
Hey Chris i got the bikes home took it for a spin and she runs great every thing sounds like new you have done an excellent job. even the rd400 is running great. Thank you great work
@@nelsonfernandes7933 no worries Nelson thank you for giving me the opportunity to work on your 2 beautiful bikes it was a pleasure.👍
Try get the original airbox mate , much better than crappy pod filters ,I can hear she's a little boggy low down. A skimmed/lightened flywheel really helps the engine spin up quickly too, but get the bike to run right first . Lovely bike !!
Very nice bike built with very nice parts I just take longer to rev the engine past 6000 rpm only after 500 km and I put 1% mix on the tank for the 1st 800 km. I also avoid constant engine speed. Anyway nice work
I had the same bike back in the day mine was very special iv never stopped liking RD I all most bought a 500 nice bikes.
Those bores look suspect!. LC bores always wear unevenly and Never clean up at 0.25mm increase, if bored properly.
Had 4 back in the day,all in different guises, love to have another,i wish this was smellyvision!
Where did you get the seat cowl?
@@fermindelarosa3060 hey mate I bought it on eBay from a fibreglass manufacturer in Australia he had all different kinds of seat pods.👍
The owner will be happy with that, I'm sure. Good parts, top workmanship, nice re-set back to zero K's on the motor. Nice work.
Beautiful piece of motorcycle history 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
That 350LC is really beautiful. Wished I had bought one when they first came out. - that example is stunning
great job lad sounds pretty sweet maybe a bit rich on bottom end keep up the great work
@@markaddy53 thanks Mark 👍
Two strokes are so fun to ride. When they hit their power band and zip right on up the tachometer range it gives ya a smile.
The nicest RD I've ever seen, even though it's very modified, it's still an RD in it's heart, just more muscle and road prowess.
Y'all gotta clean the excess burn 🔥 carbon buildup off them heads like ye olde X6?
Kenny Roberts colour scheme, always loved that on an LC.
Love it! 😊
Hey mate do you have a link for the expansion chamber ? Does it work Well with the stock porting ?
@@Graters1989 sorry I don’t have a link I bought it from eBay a long time ago, and it does go quite well considering it’s stock.
I always just shim the springs with a few washers to increase spring rate. They’re all weak after 40-50 years.
@@Graters1989 thanks, I think I did that or I’m going to do that. 👍
@@rechargegarage8705 yea you did do that in your video. I just found with old Yamahas like ct175 and my L5T the springs have all lost tension and I spent heaps buying Barnett springs and all sorts of stuff and they still slipped with new frictions type f atf and the definitive fix was shimming the springs 3mm on my ct175. It is tuned though with porting pipe and flatslide.
@ no just stock, but there may be some big improvements on the way, you’ll have to wait and see.
