The Greta~verse
Добавлен 26 июл 2020
Welcome to the Greta~verse!
A truly unruly, but always aesthetic adventure. I am on a quest to knit beautiful vintage clothes and accessories using heritage, and original patterns! Also dipping our toes into the vintage sewing, and the "just for fun crafts" periodically. I am particularly partial to the late 1930's and 1940's and we shall spend most of our time around the end of WWII (1944-46.) As this is the era we will be working in we shall endeavor to use natural fiber, textiles, and in general forgo the use of modern plastic. All the knitting will be done by hand and without the use of any machines!
It will be a fun and possibly a harrowing adventure at times, but remember "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself!"

My first video and under the weather no less! Well it inspired me to get comfy and cozy and do up this darling quick vintage knit! I hope you enjoy! #knitting #hotwaterbottle #knitted #sickdayknits #sickday #hotwaterbottlecozy #vintageknits #vintage #knittedfun
You are so skilled! I'm looking forward for your next projects 😄
That blouse suits you so well! Nice job! Thanks for another great video.
Hi Greta, do you have IG account?
I do! My instagram is: greta_schaub Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you for your video. I had a good time watching your knitting plans and all the wonderful yarn. I got inspired and purchased the Bonnie Thistle Waistcoat. I wonder if your size is the same that is offered by pattern (36 inch) or if you need to adjust the number of stitches. I am not sure how to do that and unfortunately this pattern is too small for me. Do you have any advice? I think adding more stiches is a little bit difficult since this waist has flowers…Thank you for your work and sharing your projects.
What an absolute triumph! It’s beautiful, you look incredible! 😊
Thank you so much!!
Wow you are so individual and creative and determined! The blouse is so pretty and really suits you. I would not have had the patience for it, so mega impressed here 😍
Thank you! I’ve really enjoyed the making and I’m so glad you enjoyed the video!
So impressive!! 👏👏
Hey Gretz, Great job with the video. Keep them coming. Mr. John
I've only ever done knitted shoulder pads so not much help there. I've also made patterns that called for sleeve pads (not sure if these were just an Australian thing). The ones from the 40s patterns I've used are more like a triangle for the shoulders or for the sleeves they look more like a little croissant that you put right at the edge of your shoulder where the sleeve and shoulder seem meet to puff out the sleeves "hat" if that makes sense.
Thank you for this! I will try this to see if it works better!
Brilliant video! A masterclass in adventure knitting.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
Love loved loved . It turned out beautifully, you are amazing and very entertaining 💜🖤💜
Love it! One thing I missed was where you sewed the elastic in. Was that on the sleeves somewhere?
I sewed the elastic around the entire bottom on the hem to cinch into the waistline!
This is totally you! Great video although I have no idea what you did!!! Love the pictures of me in the background. Love from your Proud Grandma!!
This isn’t intended to be rude…. You are MAD!!!!! In the BEST way……. I adore watching your videos. You are extremely talented, not to mention tenacious!!!! The garments you make don’t fit my aesthetic, in any way, but i love how they turn out and love watching your adventures making them. You look fabulous in these pieces. Look forward to seeing what your Christmas makes might be.
Haha I take that as the highest compliment! I’m so glad you enjoyed watching and more coming soon!!! The Christmas knit will be very special! 🤭🎄
You are braver than I am. No gage? No needle size? But it turned out amazing ❤
Thank you! 😊
Congratulations! That's the loveliest Beetlejuice Blouse I ever seen!!
You started out correctly with the shoulder pads. But instead use a fiberfill filling (like quilters use) shaped as your shoulder pad. You could cut two or three shapes and stack them on top of each other with each one cut just a little bit smaller so that the edges are smoother. Then just sew the edge of the shoulder pads. Because you sewed all those lines over your shoulder pads you lost the volume you were trying to create I think. I hope this helps.
So special. The whole episode is so much love and I see the hard work in it. Thank you for entertainment ❤ greetings from Germany @Mercedesse.kreativ Franka
I’m obsessed 🖤🤩
🧶🧶💐💐🧶🧶
I love the enthusiasm you display while you work. Absolutely love the blouse and your hat too! Can’t wait to see your next video. ❤
Loved the video ❤ What is the name or number of the blouse pattern? It looks by the envelope its a true vintage pattern. I would love to make a beautiful blouse like yours. ❤
It is different- but also the same. It is Witchcraft!!😂😂😂
What a great episode! I love your attention to detail with the stripes matching up. It really scratched that itch. Also no lie, I was thinking "wow, that skirt suits her so well, I wonder where she got it" and then you transitioned into "oh yeah I made this shirt and skirt" Girl! You are Impressive!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much! I love making my own clothes so I’m glad they look well done!
Like how pretty is that blouse!! Gorgeous 😍 what fun, thank you for sharing your journey. 😅
The cardigan at 8:39... Oh my 🤩🤩🤩🤩 I have dreams of going to a Shetland, but for now I'll live vicariously through you 😆
The colourwork vest and linen shirt combo is STUNNING, the fact that you made it in such a short space of time is amazing - my colourwork sweater vest has been on my needles for about 11 months
I'm so happy I found your channel and can't wait to go back to the beginning of all your episodes. Love all your yarn, thanks for sharing.
I also live in California and knit wool wear to sell to other people. they probably live in colder climates like where I grew up in the Pacific Northwest. I am going to London in January therefore I am needing a couple of pieces just for that trip. I may never wear them again but one must stress appropriately lol BTW I would have left the ribbing and skipped the frogging and moved on

What you call “sweater-vests” in America we call “Tank-Tops” in UK ❤🤍💙
I think you are a gifted knitter and your jumpers are stunning! I can really see you moving to Scotland one day.
That jumper is GORGEOUS! 💚
Such inspiration, fabulous!
You did such an incredible job on these garments!!! I'm sure the sweater would have been lovely despite the funky shoulders. Just wanted to let you know that in the reveal shots the music was louder than you were. I would rather hear your voice!
Oh wow, you were in Aberdeen! That's where I live. You probably went to MY favourite yarn shop: Wool For Ewe? Love that place and the ladies who run it are the NICEST ladies. Also West Yorkshire Spinners is probably my favourite brand :)
I'm really excited for the puff sleeve fair isle cardigan. The colours are beautiful!
Gorgeous love it. Buying this pattern, also am yet to watch Jojo rabbit ,so happy for a updated version of this top ,I have wanted to knit it forever, thank you so much ,just found you ,very happy 😊
Yes to the Christmas video
The pieces you finished are gorgeous! They really have a very professional quality. Don't be too hard on yourself! I am a perfectionist, so I know what it is to set my standards and goals (way) too high and almost always get disappointed in the end because I couldn't finish what I planned. The fact that you were able to finish these 3 amazing pieces is incredible, doesn't matter how long you worked on them. Don't forget that its already very inspiring that you have the knowledge and skills too make these pieces! I am in aw of what you can make just with some yarn, needles and youre hands. Keep enjoying this craft!
Just found your channel, and would love to watch any videos you make for any of your projects! I love vintage/inspired projects.
Thank you so much and welcome!!! More coming very soon-- I'm so glad that people such as yourself who enjoy vintage clothes as much as I do are finding this channel!
I need that pattern! the red. Green with envy!
Beautiful
Where did you get these vintage patterns??? I remember patterns from my gramma which had the ruler on the side!
I find my patterns all over-- Flea Markets, Etsy, Ebay, Facebook, you name it! I have also had many people generously send me patterns over the years when they find out my interest in vintage knitting!
How is the Uradale wool? Is it soft? I didn’t make it to Wool week, 😢 our accommodations went bust so couldn’t get there, although I live on Skye.
The Uradale wool is quite soft! I find it to be very enjoyable- I will be buying again for future projects- highly recommend!
Shetland lace shawls are just so beautiful, don’t forget to thread it through a wedding ring
The red sweater with the blue white fairisle yoke you showed around min 8:45 looks amazing! Yes please I would love to see that rather sooner than later 😅💖
I hear you! I'll try to squeeze it in before the new year! Thank you for letting me know there is interest!
@@thegretaverse837 of course but no pressure 💖
Agree!
You‘ve been knitting since you were 4?? 😱 wow! Would love to hear more about that and what you made in your early years
Yes I have! I might do a Q/A around Christmas-- I can try to talk more about that in the video-- if you have any specific questions please let me know!
@@thegretaverse837 no specific question just generally interested in the journey!
I can’t believe you have so few subscribers. You deserve far more. I can’t believe you have so much yarn. Is there more? That sweater is gorgeous, well done. I’ve only just learned to knit. It’s taken me 46 years to learn. And I’ve been trying! So I’m very impressed by your skills. Crochet didn’t cause me a problem but knitting is hard.
Thank you so much for the support-- it means a lot! There is always more yarn in my house! Shelves and shelves full!
Hey there 🌞 Can you please tell me what’s your name on Instagram? I would like to follow you there as well 🫶🏻
