How to Tell if a Ruby is Fake: Detective Gigi and the Case of the $2 Ruby
Просмотров 132 тыс.5 лет назад
A friend of mine recently purchased a “genuine 17.70 carat natural Burmese ruby” for $2 on an auction website. 🤣 Here is how a gemologist uses gemstone identification tools and tests to figure out the true identity of a gemstone! Here is a link to the spectroscope I am using: www.jtv.com/product/lightweight-gemvue-diffraction-spectroscope/GVT10 And here is a link to a very helpful book on how t...

Send me this ruby you have in your hand.
Thanks for the great info really but are you nuts prof GG? So you say it is infact a chemically proper 17.7 carats super clean Ruby with no inclusions... yet it's not the ice on the mountain but the ice made in the fridge... SO WHAT? It's $2 for Gods sake... Now somebody has to make a proper justification for $750K vs $2. I have to tell.. this jewelry business is over... You can now have Farrah Diba's tiaras for max $500 and they will be just OK. Thank you very much.
Hi Gigi, thanks for the brilliant video. QQ which are the labs/certificates that you can trust without having to have a PhD in Gemology? Thanks from the UK
I thought you were going to prove that this was glass or cubic zirconia. When you said it was really a ruby, I wanted to know that name of that lab so bad. I have been looking at synthetic rubies and one company was charging $1,675 for two carats. Now that I see that color and carat weight on that stone you are testing, I realize that the $1675 price might be a total scam. The problem I am running into is that no jeweler seems to have lose stones to be able to really compare to see what the price points should really be on lab grown rubies.
And I have lot kind of colureful stones here can you pls send me a link where to talk to you abt how to tell there kind
I have rough rubies. Big ones
This was the best rundown on rubies I’ve seen, AND you probably just saved me about $200 on buying a gemstone analyzer - THANK YOU!!
😊THANK you , you are great
Schmucks are paying a million dollars for the look of a 2 dollar stone.

I know the little dirty secrets of gemologist because I'm a gemologist, too.
You are more beautiful than precious stones
I inherited a Ruby ring that goes way back in my family, I am told late 1800s/19th Century, England. It is emerald cut and 12mm maybe btw 6 - 7carats? All the other pieces were real, amazing pearls bought in Morocco in the 1950s, diamonds. I get a nauseous just thinking about it. The odd thing about this piece is that it is set in what looks like simple, platinum, open back so that the light goes through and on the sides 9carat gold (which I'm told rings true of the era) the band of a slightly higher carat yellow gold and it is now worn so thin, due to age that the band snapped in the very back. When I used to wear it, every single time, someone would stop me. I had a man offer me money ON THE STREET, he was Iranian and just looked through a loop while it was on my hand. I don't want to leave it anywhere...am considering now that it would be safe to ship it to G.I.A. after watching many videos. Every local place...wants to keep it, take it and even the beautiful and reputable jewellers? No, I cannot. Is G.I.A. my best bet. I just need to know, as it's colour is amazing, it is completely flat on top, cut sides and back, good weight but I am no expert, I just know who owend it so ;). It is old, I don't think they had the science then...ZERO scratches and I even hit it very hard once quite by accident and no inclusions with the naked eye.
Dam. She is amazingly beautiful
How do you teach a mini- soda ruby to speak Burmese?...asking for a" 2:21 friend"
I have a largish, lab grown, vintage (60's), ruby ring I bought for $500. Canadian, that I love. 😊My new colleagues were impressed. I then bought a ruby colour lipstick to go with it. ; )
Link to 2 dollar synthetic ruby? 😂

Hi
A former "attorney?" That odd terminology. Shouldn't you have said, "former lawyer.?" Attorney implies relationship with another person. Jim is a lawyer. Jim is her attorney. Anyone can be an attorney. You don't need to pass the bar or even go to law school to be an attorney. An attorney is just a representative for another person whereas a lawyer studied the law and practiced law. How could you not know that or care? Lawyers are supposed to understand the importance of using the right words and using language effectively. I guess law school is getting easier and people in general are getting sloppier.
The American Bar Association does not differentiate between “lawyer” and “attorney”: www.dictionary.com/e/lawyer-vs-attorney/
But since I am no longer a practicing lawyer, I usually go with “attorney”!
Is it rotten granite or decomposed granite?
Actually Opal is the queen of gemstones. Ruby is the king
I seen the episode of pawn stars where they gave the owner 10k....you know if they gave the owner 10k they probably knew it was worth 100k or more.....that disgusted me to k ow they took advantage of her.
This is AGI lab in New Delhi in India. Beware of them
It is cheaper to buy in India. Secondly you did not say whether it's synthetic or lab crated ruby or natural ruby. End you stressed on you lab and it's authenticity.
Очень красивая девушка ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂❤❤
I just can't understand these sellers, for $2 I don't care if it's artificial, I think for $2 a real artificial ruby is worth it, they don't have to bullshit about that it's natural. I've got a 30x20mm artificial ruby, I wanted to check out how much it would worth if it would be natural, first I didn't find any advertisement, but then google showed me the world's biggest natural gem-quality ruby and it is 21x19mm (it was mined in 2022, so it's a new record), so my ruby is bigger than the word's biggest natural gem-quality ruby which means that I can check whether or it's natural with just a ruler.
at you site it mentioned, Red Mahaleo Ruby. what is it? Real or Lab created?
Red Mahaleo Ruby is a brown ruby that has been color treated to make it more red. By what I understand, brown rubies are not really rare like the red ones, so that is why you can get a treated brown ruby for so little money. I have not seen Mahaleo rubies that really have much transparency or brilliance. They seem to quite opaque and the red is more maroon and dark. They can still look nice, in a gold setting, but do not expect much flash from the stone.
Actually base on our researched Gemologist has none sense gemological analyst proceedure,,they let people confuse about gemstones...do you know why gemologist afraid for scratch test? Instead they're using manifulated technological advancement to deceive people..because gemologist and gemstone Industry are sabotage business,,creating myth price of Laboratory made gemstones..we knew all the the secrets of certified gemstones,,those aren't real.
I see two gems in this video you have beautiful eyes, Green and desirable.
well what are you going to lose if you paid two bucks? think I paid four five bucks for one of those naturally grown lab rubies too before I realized how rare they were I just concluded it was likely lab grown or glass for whatever gems you get from India
Please i need to send you a photo of my stone
I bought 5 *emeralds" from the same website, they arrived last week. 3 were emerald cut and translucent, the other 2 were round cut and darker. They averaged about 16 carats each. To my untrained eye they did look like middling quality emeralds and curiosity was eating me alive just to see what I got. Just under 3 weeks after ordering, a lumpy little package arrived. I could barely breathe for excitement. The stones were precisely as pictured. The one stone I particularly wanted was aqua coloured and very mottley with loads of inclusions so I picked this one out and held it to the light and just as the gem people say (for a fake stone) the colour followed the cracks, so what you saw was a white translucent stone with finest emerald green in all the cracks. So I'm guessing it's dyed quartz. The cutting is uneven on all the stones. They do feel like actual stone of some kind and not glass; the stone itself is rough and uneven. These "gems" would be great for jewellery making just for practice so I'm really glad I bought them, also to have examples of what to look for in fakes. To me they're worth the $3 each I paid. Yes, $15 for a pack of 5. Your friend got a bargain!
👌nice 👍piece
Please send me your phone number please....
Lovely pearl necklace.
Most people aren't aware that most of the rubies and sapphires in jewelry stores are actually lab-grown anymore, and have been for decades, because natural ones, esp rubies, are so prohibitively expensive.
Can i have that please 🙏
The stones finish behind her in looks.
Hi can I have your number because I got burmese natural ruby.
hi
Very nicely done - thank you!
I have alot from India 😢 I think all fake 2😢
I dont understand. Even if it were just glass the printed pvc card and cutting and processed ruby is still worth way more than 2$ plus shipping. ?? How much is it worth
Gigi, Would you be willing to take a look at a few pieces i have ? Its a mix of opals, saphires, emeralds, and rubies
This entire "real" gemstone thing is so funny to me, a chemist. The lab ruby is a true ruby. There is no doubt in it. Also a lab grown ruby is even tronger than a slow grown ruby in the nature. The most perfect rubys are the one that are mad in a lab.
It is also funny to me, as I work in STEM. Lab grown also have less imperfections.
I don't know mine is real or fake I buy from China she said natural ruby.almost 100usd.
Are you still on JTV ? Do you have an Art channel?
