I don't know why you're calculating a bicycle expenses giving as an example hiring electric bicycles!! It's complete nonsense. Buying a bike is a lifelong investment and bikes rarely depreciate much. What should be taken into account is regular bike maintenance - changing chain, tires etc. For electric bikes calculating probably how many miles you can travel on one charge, how many times you can charge a battery and the price of the battery itself. The scooter expenses (I use a scooter) are underrated. The insurance is ridiculously high, mine went up last year from 1500£ to 1550£ with no claims at all. My expenses per hour of work (12 miles on average ridden) are approximately 4£. Government is calculating 0.24£ flat rate per mile, which makes 3£ per hour expenses. For a car probably 5£ per hour would be justified.

Two things about the Just Eat app that probably few people notice: they require constant location (not only when using the app). The only other company that requires constant location, even in the background is Google, but for obvious reasons - Google maps timeline, phone tracking if you loose it etc Why Just Eat wants to know my location when I'm not working for them? Also the app is using considerably more mobile data than competitors.

Just eat were fine as innovators that grew in a new area. But the owner is too laid back and disconnected from whats required to compete and adapt with ubereats. And he also lost 2/3 of the fortune he made with just eat in a terrible USA expansion, which again would result from lack of corporate knowhow or not listening to people around him. Or he creates the wrong business climate for improvement or something like that. My guess is its just him alone trying to make decisions to conserve whats left of his assets and keep the company going till he can find a buyer. The fact they cant afford the quarter of a million or so to develop a new app makes me think they are fighting off financial collapse.. OR trying to siphon assets out slowly before the collapse.

the app has what is called technical debt. Which is the accumulation of bad programming quick fixes that compound and cannot be fixed. Usually due to lack of documentation and the coders who made the previous hacks moving job. This makes app slower over time and increasingly hard for new effective coding of any complexity to be added to the app. So it just accumulates more and more half working fixes.. and gets worse.. until it cannot work or adapt in any way to new coding demands. The only fix is to build a new app from scratch, unless ai is good enough now to fix it. I guess just eat got the most bargain price coding team, or they were shafted contract wise in terms of app servicing.

If this happens again you can ask support mark you as arrived.

Just Eat is also worst in my experience when it comes to waiting time in the restaurant. I think they are sending us way too early in the restaurant. If 3 riders arrive the same time, one Deliveroo, one Uber and one JE, 70-80% of the time JE rider will leave the restaurant last.

I had a similar issue on just eat when i went to my local morrissons. You can either pick up from the main store or the service station. Went to the service station like the instructions said. Couldnt confirm pick up as pin was at the main store. Had to drive over, click that i’d arrived and go back. I explained to staff what had happened. They still wouldnt let me have the order. After alot of arguing and proving it was the order to pick up they gave me the order. Had to go back to the main store again to confirm pick up.

Since around December I noticed the app has been playing up more. Orders vanishing and even serveral in a row. And it's like 90's dial up internet speeds, for the time it takes the orders to show on the screen. As for my phone all other apps work well. I hope they can sort the app issues out. The app was good before.

I done a few deliveries a couple weeks ago and now I defo won’t use em offer said £10.47 then recalculate it when they issue statement to £8.53 no more will I do a delivery for them

Do you take several orders at the same time on several platforms? Or only when you make one order do you take the next one? And do you wait for the new order in the place where you left the previous one or do you go to some specific place with restaurants? I get much less per hour. I can't understand why

Last Saturday I had a shift from 5pm to 8pm. I didn't get a single order for 3 hours. Not a single one.!!!!!

Hello, I also deliver in Exeter, are you able to talk with Deliveroo, and explain that it is annoying having to keep saying stay online, when you’ve turned down a few -3£ orders.

Their secret is under bidding well established services like taxi cabs, limousines, and couriers. They artificially deflate the marketplace with prices that are not sustainable for operators. This is a problem that can’t be solved by neoliberal capitalism. Greed and corruption underlies this practice. Most people aren’t financially literate and don’t have good business acumen. They have destroyed the marketplace in the transportation sector so much so that a lot of former taxi cab drivers and limousine operators are forced to drive for Uber to try to make close to what they used to make, which is quixotic.

Since when did drivers pay for the customers cancelled orders?? I've not heard of that in 9 years of doing courier work?? I'd probably refuse to pay it and if they took it from my wage, I'd never work for the company again, I'm not even joking.

I stopped doing them last Nov when they start doing this UE pay poorly but least no rob you blind...

I've had this happen before. I know in the app it says the lower price but at the end of the week you do receive the right amount for the journey. I'm assuming it's just how the app works.

Yesterday, I went to pick up an order and the restaurant told me it'd be a 20 minute wait after already driving 2 miles to the restaurant and waiting 5 minutes for someone to check the order. I decided to wait because Just Eat pay for waiting time after 10 mins and I needed a break/lunch. So instead of waiting in the packed restaurant/bar for 20 more minutes, I went outside and waited in my car. Went back into the restaurant 20 minutes later and the restaurant decided to put the order to the back of the queue because I walked out and it would now be another 20 minutes before it was ready. At this instance I actually left and cancelled the order but for them to assume I had cancelled is ridiculous because surely it would show on their end if I did and then Just Eat not reimbursing me for the 2 miles already driven to the restaurant and the 30 minute wait, just ridiculous. All of these companies are going massively downhill and eventually won't have any drivers that actually care about how the food turns up, customer service, etc. I like to think I go that extra mile with the care and attention I put into the job but never anything to show for it!

I have a list of 22 ways and tricks the delivery companies are using to not pay us NMW, I made for the GMB and ADCU union. Not heard anything about that, heard from them on other matters. I guess they gave up because they get ignored by the big firms.. So going to my local MP who luckily is part of labors move to tackle gig work. And the idea I am proposing is that removable licenses for each UK region are granted to these companies and the government employ someone full time to monitor gig work for meeting NMW using random sampling methods for each region. Because we are now the effective delivery force for all major supermarkets and earn below NMW regularly. So If these companies constant creative tricks result in people falling below NMW (after typical expenses) then they are warned they are on the road to losing license for that region. It needs to be regional because these companies use different tricks in different locations. And because regions will have to be removed before they take the government seriously. No fines, because they will rather pay the fine. What does labor get out of it. A fortune saved in top up benefits because self employed cannot meet NMW, contribution to higher GDP, more taxes and happier workers, will pay for the dedicated staff required 1000x over. And if he takes this seriously I will later add in how terrible apps make bad working conditions. Also I will reveal to him how these companies corporate propaganda is all lies and uses accounting tricks... and they have been making an absolute fortune all the years they claimed they were on a loss.

Just Eat need to scrap their bloated and buggy app and start again, allow free login and allow us to cancel orders ourselves, and have a normal base rate of pay (£3?) - otherwise they are finished

In my opinion, pay per hour is a big b******t. Car drivers have to drive miles. Fuel is counted in mpg (miles per gallon), every 10.000 miles, we have a service to do. Tyres needs to be changed every 15 to 20.000 miles. I can't se any hours in our expenses. And after almost 7 years of doing deliveries as full time, my income decresed AT LEAST a half, even when I work more hours than before the pandemic. Who is guilty, apart from the platforms? AI, illegal immigration, government institutions like Home Office or Immigration Office.

Seems pointless tbh they can’t even meet the old £12 plus expenses still a year later ( well for me anyways )

Supermarkets use think 25. If someone looks under 25 then ask for I.D however if there 90 I don't want to ask for proof of age. 2 let the shops deal with putting in the customer I.D online for age restricted items rather than the rider. 3 I don't want to be paid for waiting because Just Eat did this and terminated riders for moving away from the restaurant's before swiping on collected. Not worth risking your income for an extra 10p a minute wait. 4 Keep me wanting to work whenever and wherever I want. For example in my city there's always road works constantly on the main roads everywhere so I'll go somewhere else without the stress of being jammed in traffic.

A lot of questions but the main ones for me: 1.Why not tell us how many items we agree to pick up before making the whole journey? Threw my back out once because I didn't want to waste that fuel. Too many items, upstairs flat. 2. The prompts available to use to message the customer are rubbish. Bring back "I've arrived ". That's the only crucial one. 3. Why is Deliveroo so anal about D.O.B documentation? We deliver, we don't sell. Surely the friction can be reduced somehow?? Otherwise, give us the option to opt out of restricted items altogether. 4. I requested my trips data from them and what I received was illegible and impractical even for an educated person. There is clearly a lack of transparency there.

i usually do uber eats but used to do deliveroo but started ordering from uber eats when they started as a company only once i had this problem with uber and they refunded back but with deliveroo this never happened not once but to days ago i ordered from just eat because i was trying to order from a place that said sorry we dont deliver to your address then order from another place and at the time it said deliveroo currently busy not taking orders but uber was and just eat were to but did just eat because the price was cheaper £17.26 where as uber came to 23.50 or something like that and the driver picked up my order then rang saying im outside the place i ordered from and said you come take the order then he said whats your address i cant find it then he asked for code whereas me stupid giving the right code he took it and said okay im coming but never came then i went to the place i ordered from the owner said it marked as delivered and i told the owner what happened the owner then said theirs nothing i can do i only prepare orders and send them to the delivery driver and then the owner said did you get intouch with just eat i said yes but you cant get through to them then the owner said next time do uber or deliveroo because just eat have less drivers and they are not our drivers we only tell people to order from uber or deliveroo when ordering from us then i said okay thanks then i put out on twitter saying just eat company should go to court the owner should be arrested and the company should be closed down permanently the drivers should all go to hell and the just eat twitter account liked my tweet post then replied saying thank you thats it nothing else lesson learnt not to order from just eat i usually go out myself to get something usually like fish and chips or like greggs or takeaway like southern fried chicken and chips or pizza that type of thing because they have their own drivers most places dont and just eat im not ordering from them ever again they can go to hell sorry for my language and hope you had a good christmas and hope you have a good new year ahead ♥️😃
