I remember buying that kids for character vhs in 2002 thinking it was a vhs of Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends but it didn't turn out to be that shitty piece of crap with Barney and those stupid characters that I didn't even finish watching the video because I broke up afterwards and I don't regret having spent 20 dollars for that stupid thing but the next day I went to buy my new Thomas James movie goes buzz buzz 1994 and I was happy with that

I probably watched it hundreds of times when I was a kid, since my mom was also an ESL teacher and loved Wee Sing to teach English as well. I also loved Grandpa's Magical Toys and Big Rock Candy Mountain. ◡̈

First of all, I am 65 so I was 15 when this came out. Those little kids are probably only in their 50s. Second, the mispronunciation of some of the names made my back spasm. Alan Awl-da, not Al-da. Kris KriSTofferson. All of those people were very big at the time, and check out Schoolhouse Rock for similar animation. I was too old to watch this when it came out, to I'm actually glad to see what it was about. I'm glad that it resonated with you, even now.

As someone who grew up listening to this album - and who is also gay - this collection of songs was the "inclusive" part of my life in my early childhood in the 1970s. The songs were well-done, and inspirational. And looking back as an adult 40 years later, I'm glad I had access to the album. In the 70s, the progressive culture wasn't specifically about dealing with sexuality or gender(s) - it was more general/universal, and about breaking free of racial and gender norms and being free to define yourself outside of those specific norms. That's what "free to be you and me" is all about. Nowadays, I feel like we are falling into another trap about feeling like we have to define ourselves with specific balkanized "pronouns". Thus giving more weight to pronouns than they ever had in the past. That's a mental trap in itself. I believe the 70s philosophy is better, in that it tries to transcend these pigeonholes, rather than debate them and redefine another set of pigeonhole genders which in many ways are just as limiting as the old set was. And yes- I know my view isn't popular and I'm going to get a lot of blow-back from young "lgbtq plus" kids who are going to try to school me on what the real world is like. And all I have to say is that I've been there and seen that and I don't need the sermon.

My fav part was always when little bunny Foo Foo got turned into a goon. The drama is extreme. I watched a couple other of the wee sing videos that I vaguely remembered. as an adult, and I'm with you - we watched some weird furries in the 90's lol

I remember the first elementary school I went to was part of this program and we always had a focus of the 6 pillars of character. We always would say Character counts! I honestly don’t remember any of this video other then the segment that they had where they had the pie in the face quiz show. I remember the question if “What would you do if you wanted to watch tv but your dad was watching the news?” I honestly have no idea if we ever watched this video in school or not, but we certainly had the curriculum!

This game was my favorite when i was a kid cause it featured normal black people. I know white kids benefitted from all the “after-school” educating representations of black people in the 90’s, but it was fun to just bake a girl who looked my me a cake

Other 80's typing adventure games to look in to. King's Quest and Space Quest. That was my childhood. Also some older point and click games, Secret of Monkey Island series, Zak McKraken and the alien mind benders, and Day of the tentacle. Basically any Older Sierra, or Lucasfilm Games adventure.

Universal mainly had the Hanna Barbera and Nickelodeon characters at the park at the time. Cat in the Hat would not show up for another 3 years and the others like Spot and Garfield were borrowed from their respective studios

Back in 2016 on the 20 year anniversary, I had bought this VHS on eBay (gave away my original copy away when I was a kid) for my niece to watch a piece of my childhood and I'm glad to say she's also a part of Kids for Character like I was and print off the pledge that she has hanging up. Also I was in the parade as a baby, you can't see me and my grandparents because we were cut out.

I use to have this on vhs and I remember getting the kids for character song stuck in my head all the time.I remember enjoying most of the songs and many of the segments from the different shows.

I remember renting this tape at Hollywood Video........................and we never returned it. I still have the original rental case for it. Sadly the tape is gone.

I’m turning 23 this year and when I was little I’d watch this VHS at my grandmas whenever I’d go to visit her. I loved it so much. I remember lying in my grandma’s bed trying to go to sleep and I’d watch this VHS to help me go to sleep. Great memories indeed
