Peavey Valve King II 50 Watt Combo
Hey guys, sorry it's been so long since the last time I made a video! I kinda just got out of it from being caught up with school (which I'm finally done with) and work, and it really just drained me, but I'm back, I'm not making any promises on a set schedule for videos yet, but this one is a start. I just bought this amp a couple weeks ago, and I'm really excited about it, I know this isn't the best review out there, but if it was helpful, give it a like!

My friend Sam recently bought an HD500, this thing has killer tones, so I thought I'd show a little bit, he's also playing a Carvin 8 string (I don't know the exact model number) enjoy! U

Hey guys, this is something different than what I usually post. This is an old Arien's lawnmower that I've been working on for the past few months, I did a pulley swap making it go faster. Sorry that the video is such crappy quality, I'll try to make one soon with a better camera!

New Guitar!
Просмотров 7 тыс.11 лет назад
So I just bought this guitar about a month ago. Sort of just been getting used to how it plays and sounds, and I am completely blown away by how good a quality it is for it being so cheap! The guitar is a Sterling by Music Man: SUB Series AX3, they just came out with it, they are very affordable, and to me they play just as good as a real Music Man (yes I have played them before). If you don't ...

So I've been spending my Christmas break in Ohio with some friends and family. One of our friends Mike Weller has a few vintage guitars that he brought over and let me try out, this is what came out of it.

Random Guitar Riffage

Sam came and hung out for a little while, so during our boredom, we decided to make a random video of just random guitar soloing. I totally understand if no body likes this. Was really more of a camera and sound quality test, and I'm pretty pleased with the sound and looks!

"On The Backs of Angels" - Intro Acoustic
i think I would much rather have the new peavey mini 22 watt and a 2x12 cab. that wasn't an option when you made this video but that amp is way to loud for any club. I have been either playing or working as an audio engineer from clubs to pro huge stages in theatres and arenas and that amp is just way to loud for a normal size club or a small civic room for say a wedding or something similar. Under 100 people. I'm also a guitarist. Started at 14. Haven't played in a band in 20 years. I'm 63.
I agree. I’ve actually switched to the first generation 2x12 combo of this and run it at a pretty low volume. No external cab anymore either. Sometimes I’ll pair it with a fender just to get a little more diversity but not very often.
Not loud enough to gig with
The video showed me what it sounds like...It's bass heavy with those two knobs you turned up...Well this was six years ago so what are you playing now...
Yeah I quit using this amp a while ago, that speaker cabinet it was ran too was voiced a lot differently too. I found that the amp by itself had too much midrange and presence. Even with the mid and high turned all the way down. I actually switched to the previous generation 100 watt combo. I’ve had much better luck out of it.
Nice sound like milk mix honey ..I love it
Whats all gear you use man? Sounds cool
I did this video through a Roland 80x on the rectifier model ran through a burgers 4x12. However I’ve actually sort of changed styles of music to a little bit more classic rock so I blend an old fender champ and a peavey valve king, it actually sounds surprisingly good. I’ll have to make a video on it one day.
Thanks for the review man. I'm planning to buy that guitar. It's still out of stock here in the Philippines. Are those made in China?
ernie ball and it comes with crap strings. ? the indonesian cort factory makes everything ibanez,squire,cort.... all top quality..
Hello. When i push the button on the Channel select it does like a double click. Wondering if this is normal. It doesn't do that on the other buttons on this amp. Greetings
I think mine made the same noise, I don’t remember as I have actually sold this amp....
I picked one up for $75 at my local pawn shop. Played incredibly right from the pawn shop. Feels very much like my Schecter C1 40th anniversary. Solid as a rock!!!
How would you describe the scale length compared to playing a standard strat? Is it that bad? Or close
Robert Clark my strat is definitely longer. Not a huge difference though.
@@cooper9563 which you more prefer for both clean and dirt, squier stratocaster or this one? I want a more versatile, can play any type of genre perfectly and comfortable... thanks
hafiz marzuki to me a strat is always gonna have a nicer clean tone hands down. But that’s just my personal preference. It also depends on what style music you play. Since I’ve made this video I’ve actually gotten more into country and blues rock, so I’ve picked up my strat a lot more often, but as far as versatility goes, this guitar will pretty much do whatever style music you want it to.
@@cooper9563 thank you. I thought it felt shorter at GC ....I'll stick with my standard but may pick up a Sterling if I can soon. Thanks. Excellent show.
I have a sub ax3 in red arriving tomorrow, hope mine is as good as others on here, your playing is cool
how stupid is this? how can I hear anything over a such a awefull mic? are you stupid?
Nice playing and interesting picking style - obviously working very well for you :) Just got my Sub AX4, best guitar I've ever had, love it!
Nice playing!
I have one, put a bone nut and a real Floyd Rose trem on it. Love it.
Awesome, I don't use the tremolo enough to justify putting a Floyd on there but I did put some locking tuners on it and had it reset up, plays like a totally new guitar now
cool video bud
This amp sounds freaking awesome.
why does it have a 5 way switch what does the back look like
He explains it: 1- neck pup, double coil, 2- neck pup, single coil 3- front and back pups, 4, back pup single coil, 5- bridge pup double coil. No other guitar does that.
nice review, what does SUB stand for?
those pick ups are microphonic. And never demo a guitar while not in tune.sound so bad :-(
i have one for over a year i use it stock... no issues
+Michael Wilson I've had mine for 3 years and the only changes i've made are the pickups. I'd like to have some locking tuners for it eventually, but other than that, no complaints
Please tune your guitar before putting anything on youtube please.
+Mike van Schravendijk Please watch the whole video before you assume my guitar is out of tune because I really did tune it before I made this video. The whammy bar kills the tuning as it is not a floyd or something nicer. I appreciate your input though.
about adjusting some problems? my tends to detune using the tremolo
Yeah mine does that too, I may invest in a locking nut or tuners or something
this is a big problem for you?
too much bass drown all the other sound
+Edwin Martinez Yeah I know, lol I need to go back and do a legit review that wasn't quite so rushed, I don't really have that decent of recording software is why I just did it raw.
You'll get it at least you are aware
+Edwin Martinez Yeah, that camera is horrible about it lol
oh peavey valve king just saw that! also I was wondering....I have recently been playing a ton of allman bros basically I wish I was derek trucks his band is amazing...do you think that you could get away with playing that style of music on this guitar? I also play reggae "grateful dead licks" funk and prog rock (Yes mainly). I mean I guess it all comes down to what amp and effects im using. I don't know much about equipment and what guitar is best for what music im trying to learn more abuot it I literally taught myself how to play in high school and I don't know if its cause im a girl but all I cared about was playing the guitar didn't care about the specs, what amp I used...have a strat now but this guitar feels better on my wrist I broke my left wrist metal plate 9 screws so this guitar being comfortable is my main draw, and the price
just recently fell in love with this guitar in the guitar center, but also I was using an awesome amp (don't remember the name but it was I THINK a gold Yamaha amp that was actually really nice...) I am getting new equipment and was just wondering what amp were you playing this through and what pedal if any? I need a new amp, wah pedal too lol its guna be a couple dollars
This was really helpful. I'm on the fence and now believe i may buy a used one for $250. That would make the new pick-ups and locking tuners affordable. Any suggestions on purchasing used vs new?
Im concidering buying this guitar (the AX3), but when i tried it, it sounded kind of muddy at times. Is this the reason why u switches the pickups? Also which pickups did u put in it so i can consider changing it later on! Great vids, thanks.
mark smit Yes, the stock pickups absolutely suck lol I put the dimarzio John Petrucci set in it. They're not the best pickups I've heard, I have a set of Steve Vai evolutions in another guitar and I love them. But honestly I think any pickup would sound pretty decent, this guitar is very versatile with styles of music that can be played on it, thanks for watching!
The dampening knob is probably compression since the description says it controls the highs and lows at the same time. As far as the A/B knob goes, it has to do with the two sets of power tubes. When set on A, power goes to one set of power tubes. When it's all the way to A/B, both sets of power tubes are getting the full power. In Between, the second set gets varying degree of power depending on where the know is turned.
orlock20 I remember seeing that about the A/B knob. The dampening knob is what was a little different to me, but now that I've had more time to mess with it, I'm starting to understand it a little better
💯 what he said
God that dirty channel sounds so awesome. I'll have to change the speaker though probably.
Chris Thieblot I need to make a video with the amp by it's self for comparison between it and the 4x12
Man that sucks about the FX Loop. Any reason why you have to turn it on every time?
Chris Thieblot That's just how they made it I guess, I just keep a 2 button footswitch in the back and leave it turned on all the time, you can get those for pretty cheap plus a trs cable.
@@cooper9563 Weird I just leave my eq and looper in the fx loop and never had to switch the loop on, they're just on.
Yeah I ended up switching to a vk100 212 after making this video but I did eventually figure out to switch it then unplug the foot switch
Need those settings for your overdrive. Sounded great.
Chris Thieblot If you skip to 4:10 it'll tell you where I set it at, thanks for watching!
Cooper Sanvidge Ah. Thanks. You recommend this amp? The Toneking II seems like the jack of all trades.
Chris Thieblot Well I do but be careful, the one in this video actually ran hot on me and ended up blowing a non-replaceable fuse so I had to have it replaced, and when that happened that was the only time that I didn't have had it plugged into a surge protector, so since then I've kept it plugged into a surge protector. As far as the tone though (if this is what you're going for) I'd recommend it, like I said I'm not crazy about the speaker that it comes with just way to bright for me, takes away alot of low end, but the 4x12 that I use is bugera speakers and a wiring (I built the cab myself) and it drives that well, I love how it sounds both clean and dirty.
Cooper Sanvidge I see man. I'll read more about it and which speaker to use.
Chris Thieblot cool
These SUB guitars are the guitar worlds best kept secret..for some reason they are not the most popular and i cant figure out why... ive had many many guitars over the past 25 years.. some dirt cheap and some pretty expensive...ive now got one of the SUB Silo guitars and its the best playing guitar ive had, its also the most comfortable and have the best necks out there at any price point.... people are missing out big time by not having one of these... If you have a look around on the Ernie Ball forums there is hardly a bad word to say about them...
I love those guitars nice demo I like your guitar too
Mayby squier strat to be better?
I'd call that a downgrade lol. Tremelo on the sub stays in tune a lot better, and you get some of the same kind of tones and more out of it.
+snapon1993 _ i prefer a squier, i dont really liked this sound
very cool, thanks for this video and demonstration brigde. What are you think about original floyd fose for this guitar? or this floyd good too?
it does very well for what it is. by no means is it a floyd but you can do dive bombs on it if you really wanted to but don't expect to stay perfectly in tune
wow. ...thanks you
Alrighty, so I just got one of these second hand. I am loving this guitar, however, I noticed that all the models I have seen have had the zebra color pickups and plastic, strat like knobs. Mine, on the other hand, has all chrome hardware (chrome pickup covers and metal knobs ((like a telecaster))). Is mine a special edition something or another or was that done second hand. Any help would be appreciated. Just got into sterling/musicman guitars and am so far loving them. Thanks
that's probably all second hand stuff, probably has some seymour duncan pickups or another brand similar to them, I would prefer that kind of hardware over the plastic
the dimarzio cliplock has 2 screws and it seems ur using the stainless one on the body.. Does the other black screw fit on the body?..
Cooper Sanvidge hole*
cool guitar, looks like Paul Landers s Music man in Sehnsucht album.
4:50 DT- home :D Do more by all means great playing
Thanks for your review this model.. just found it from Guitars shop , so i really like it and then i m searching about details of this model and this is my choice for me now...
It's a good choice to buy, I just put some dimarzios in it about a month ago, hopefully (I'm so busy it's hard to find time to make videos) I'll do a review within the next week!
Ahh... Hope sound will great with Dimarzios i will follow up your next review.. Rock guy !!
How do you set the tremolo? Floating?
To be honest with you I have no idea lol. I had it done at a music store and told them I didn't want to hear an ugly noise when it goes back to full tension (aka didn't want the trem hitting the body)
great review mate !
Thanks! Having the dimarzio John Petrucci set of pickups put on it now so I'll do another review as soon as I get it back!
great cant wait to hear it . iv'e bought one for myself in blue for live gigs as a back up guitar im planning on putting some nice seymour duncans in it later .
realkidrage so far I like them, still kind of getting used to them, but they do give the guitar a lot more clarity, not quite as beefy sounding
How long have you been playing to get that kind of skill? You sound amazing!
Idk, it's been a while lol thanks!
Sry bro! What distortion effect did u use?
That's the rectifier amp model on a Roland Cube 80X
Very nice job. Just picked up mine in trans black. Thanks for the review.
thanks man~I will buy this guitar today^^
Just ordered one in Trans Black and I'm very curious. (Don't really need another guitar though!) Worth a punt for the cash I reckon. Nice playing and demo....do you still have yours?
I sure do, I'm actually about to put the John Petrucci set of Dimarzio pickups in it before too much longer, I'll do a review on them too
kkmspm I know I said I would do a review on them 4 months ago and never did, but it's a video that I really want to make, along with a review of the line 6 pod hd 500 and the roland cube 80, just haven't had the time to with my busy work schedule. I will say that the dimarzios are definitely worth buying, they make the difference.
I like you.
sure thing! I'm probably gonna start doing more videos like this with other stuff that I have, thanks for watching!
