Arendal 1723 S Theater Review
This is one of the best I have ever heard. It consists of the 1723 Monitor S THX, the 1723 Surround S THX, the 1723 CENTER S THX and 1723 SUBWOOFER 1S. The S stands for small. And these speakers are all downscaled versions of the the regular 1723 line up. And while they're said to be small, they are absolutely massive. And I love them.

Taps' Best of 2024
Просмотров 4,1 тыс.21 день назад
This being the first year that i've gotten more products that I could have ever imagined in for review, I have put together my Best of 2024. I should note that while I was only able to pick one winner, nearly every product I got to review was rather special in their own right and easily could have won on another list. And also, I'm pretty biased in general. I loved what I loved. MY REVIEWS: www...
3 Weeks with the Monitor Audio Anthra W10 Subwoofer
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.28 дней назад
A while back, I got a chance to sit with the Studio 89 from Monitor Audio. Along with those speakers, I got sent their Anthra 10 Subwoofer. I only had a 3 weeks with them both and spent most of my time evaulating the Studio 89 as that was to be the focus. But during that time I did take the opportunity to run the sub through its paces. This might just be the best monitor speaker ever. The 1723 Monitor S is a downscaled version of the 1723 Monitor. 6.5" mid-bass drivers as opposed to the 8" ones of the regular version. Downscaled is hilarious. It's huge. Cambridge AXA 35 Integrated Amplifier Review

The now 5-year-old AXA 35 is the most powerful integrated amp within the AX series, the other is the AXA 25, a 25-watt amp. After reviewing the Rotel A8 Integrated Amplifier, more than a few people asked about the nearest competitor. And so, I reached out to Cambridge Audio. And they agreed to send one over for review. Thank you for your detailed review as it steered me towards these speakers. I just tested the MA bronze 50; As I have the top of the range MA speakers, I approached this with an open mind, expecting it to be a toy. I compared it with late 2024 editions from other brands, as a budget set- up for the holiday house. Like my expensive MA set up, the bronze 50 out performed other brands when it comes to Classical music and Opera. There is clarity unlike the muddy renditions of its competitors. There is differentiation between layers of instruments or singers, front middle and rear; the others flattened them. The orchestra was “ meaty “ , full bodied, the piano sparkled, the voices had a real presence, full emotional nuances reproduced with fidelity during the operatic cadenzas. Monitor Audio in my opinion excel with Classical and Opera. Pop is a breeze. I used vinyl recordings: Brahms ‘ First piano concerto ( Arau - Guilini)/ Maria Callas’ Casta Diva (. 1960 stereo with Serafin) and Mozart’s Magic flute (Klemperer) Papagino’s final solo aria. Highly impressed for my budget set- up, and by the sophisticated sound that came out of these Bronze 50. I bought a pair. Of course, the more one spends on Monitor Audio, this sophistication gets even better with Classical/Opera- the speakers pick up more detail, the separation is more expansive and there is more power. The bronze 50 is powerful enough for a small space.

For example, you can access to your computer folders from an app on Yamaha Music Cast, no cables, nothing, they are both on the same router and you just choose "Net Server" on the app and access to whatever folders and music.

    i just bought two AO7 maxs and they're SO close to my Plinius 9200 it's scary. the 9200 retailed at $4800 CAD years ago when i bought it. the two VO7 maxs in dual mono are giving me 95% if not 98% of the performance of the Plinius. and the Plinius 9200 is an amp ive loved for the past 20 years. i mean it has very close to the SAME bass, SAME detail, and SAME slam as the plinius. and im listening on $5000 USD speakers. so they are very good with details and bass. * one key tip*** i discovered that im not sure if everyone knows, is if youre using the AO7 max with a streamer, you need to run the streamer in volume pass through mode, or fixed audio mode. this was a GAMECHANGER. i originally put my streamer into variable mode as this is the way that has been suggested, but i decided to select passthrough mode and for whatever reason it seems that when passthrough/fixed volume mode is NOT SELECTED it seems to attenuate the level of the signal that passes through to the amp, so with this ENABLED, it literally blasts that much more signal through, thus allowing me to turn the volume DOWN on the Ao7 but still listen at the same volume as before! this makes the amp sound MUCH cleaner. after i hooked them up to my massive floorstanding Tyler acoustics linbrook signature monitors and bottoms, i listened for a solid hour and i had no desire to re hook back up the Plinius. thats really insane. the Ao7 provided JUST as much enjoyment. not only that, but after a solid hour of quite loud, ROOM FILLING sound they were literally cold to the touch, and so were the power supplies! im immediately buying two 48 volt power supplies to replace the 36 volt that came with them. i LOVE these things. i cant wait to get the 48 volt power supplies and be able to turn the volume down even further and clean them up even more.

    I have these speakers and was floored by the sound quality. My room is a garage size room and it fills it nicely with a full bodied sound. Highs are sparkling without being shrill, midrange is weighty and natural and the bass is phenomenal for such a small speaker- fast, taught and goes surprisingly low. These speakers have rejuvenated my love for music again. I will be getting the matching centre ( HTM6 ) to complete my home cinema.

    I teamed the the 606s3's with a Marantz PM 8006 amp, Marantz CD 6007, Bluesound Node direct wired. 400 sq ft room. the key for me was 3 ft away from the back wall and 3 ft away from the side walls running 15 degrees off axis from listening area which can tame the treble a bit. With most good recordings, they simply disappear. No subwoofer for my needs. Clarity, soundstage and imaging is very very good. They team well with the Marantz PM 8006 and that amp is known for it's imaging. I almost forgot, the 606s3's are on their recomended 25 inch stands which is crucial as anyting higher could compromise. I put alot into making sure this system remained somewhat simple, in budget and I read alot and watched videos and tried different things. To my ears, they sound amazing. To my friend who has a system over twice the cost, he just shakes his head.

    The 1723 S series is actually quite old. I think they came out in 2018 or so. Can someone explain why we see a lot of reviews of these speakers in the last 2 years, whereas before there wasn't much? I realize that the innovation curve in passive speakers is quite flat. It's mostly the same ideas packaged in a different way all over again, and then there is the furniture aspect, that spawns many iterations just for visual appeal. But why this delay for this series?

    What a great review. I have the AXA35 and the Elac DB3's. This is a great pairing. I found my AXA35 used on Ebay for $135, which was quite a steal. The one thing I dislike about it is how it turns itself off automatically after a while, and how it always defaults to a particular volume (can't remember which). If there was a way to turn this feature off or disable it I surely would!

      Thank you! I think they’re comparable. At this price neither is more revealing than the other. But I do think that at the size the 6.5” midbass driver sounds better than the 8” on one the bronze for vocals. But if you’re just going to rock out like me its a toss up!

    The insides of this amp are almost the same as the A-4 from the 1990's. The only real change is the built in phono stage and screen. It would be nice to hear them go up against each other.

    It always makes me smile when you mention all my favourite electronic artists and films which other reviewers seem to miss entirely… (I’ve also watched Arrival, Prey & Seven a thousand times… and I also DON’T like John Wick!). I’ve been thinking between a living room home theatre setup consisting of either Aperion Theatrus (T65/T80’s) or Arendal 1723 S (Monitors) and having a tough time with it. Naturally I much prefer the look of the Arendals too and heard the Aperions may be a bit bright? Would you agree the sound quality/immersion is basically on par with each other so I can be happy buying the prettier Norway option? Thanks again for the review Taps! Nickolas

      Maybe we’re kindred spirits sonically! Between the two I have to admit that the Arendal (from my memory) sounded better for music. So maybe that will help steer your hand!

    Greetings my friend. thank you for your reviews and everything you do! please tell me - I have an office of 17 square meters on the floor - which speakers in it will be better revealed 607 s3 or 606 s3? The amplifier is a Yamaha 800, but it is possible to change it to a Cambridge 81. Will the 607 be able to fill 17 square meters with sound or is the 606 still better for this room?

    • @0102studio
      @0102studio 9 дней назад

      You can get away with the 607 in that space. And with your Yamaha you have tone control to augment the sound a bit. You should be fine with it.

    Great review. How are these for music without a sub (rock music mostly), do you think they dig deep enough on their own? My usage is 80% movies/20% music. Thanks.

    • @0102studio
      @0102studio 9 дней назад

      Think they sound ok for music. I liked them, especially for shovibg up against a wall. But I did have a friend over who thought they didnt sound as good as the Verus Bookshelves. If its mostly rock, minus a sub and 80% Movies, I would pull the trigger personally.
