Hello Tzacharia, Depending on radio of nutrients in your NPK fertilizer, we can calculate the quantity per acre. CAN is about 26%N. So U need about 210kg or 4.2 bags of 50kg applied in 2 splits. 1st application of 2.1 bags at 6 weeks and second application of 2.1 bags at 8th to 10th week. Note that CAN is a top dressing fertilizer

Hello Ronny Ojok. Number of bags of fertilizer depend on weight per bag of fertilizer, ratio of nutrients in each fertilizer and plant population per acre. Best way is to determine kilogrammes per acre instead of bags. Eg For an acre with spacing of 75cm by 25cm, you will achieve plant population of about 21,000 plants. At 5g per seed or plant station, U will need 108kg of DAP 47% P. This is equivalent to 2.16 bags of 50kg DAP at planting.

@stephen Kagaba. Thanks for your comment. Maize seed production does not achieve yields like a person doing commercial maize farming. This is because all the rows planted with male varieties are chopped off or removed from the farm after pollination and their yields are not considered. You should however get atleast 80% of yields received by commercial maize farmer. The other reason from my observation is that farmers doing maize seed farming don't observe proper cropping husbandry for maize i.e nutrition, spacing
