Thank you for sharing that insight! My understanding is based on what my guide explained during my recent visit and the celebrations I observed. From what I gathered, the Ethiopian calendar-officially the Ge’ez calendar-is what is widely recognized as the state’s civil calendar. This seems to be why there were "2017" decorations and signs at the airport and around the city. It’s fascinating to hear about the Henok connection as well!

Ethiopia follows its own ancient calendar, which is approximately seven years behind the Gregorian calendar commonly used worldwide. The Ethiopian calendar has 13 months, with 12 months of 30 days each and a 13th month called Pagumen with 5 or 6 days during a leap year. This system is rooted in the Coptic calendar, which itself originates from the Alexandrian calendar. The difference in years stems from a variation in the calculation of the birth year of Jesus Christ. Ethiopia celebrates its New Year, called Enkutatash, on September 11 (or September 12 in leap years). This distinctive calendar system contributes to the unique cultural identity of Ethiopia. Hi, the width and length were pretty decent comparable to Etihad or Qatar but slightly less than British. The only complaint is narrow footwell but I was able to get decent sleep.

@@My_Travel_Tips The aircraft you encountered had the older business class seats, the new airplanes has the 1-2-1 layout making the footwell wide and comfortable. Ethiopian will retrofit the older seats by the end of 2024.

@@Eyob797you are correct. I heard the new configuration which serves long haul currently is great. Waiting for a chance to try the new product.

This review is about a particular flight where things didn’t quite meet expectations. It’s interesting how just one flight attendant can sometimes make or break the experience-we know how much great service adds to the journey! Glad you had such a memorable trip with them!

I did on one of my recent flights on Qatar and I got to say that’s the best treatment I got, on top of usual excellent service Qatar has. She was offering me so many different mid flights snacks just to try. Wish I had video of that but that was before I started blogging.

I get it but it’s the small details that differentiate the great from good

@@My_Travel_Tips I think every single airline I’ve flown did that. (Qatar, EVA, Lufthansa, Saudia, Cathay…) nothing special. Talking about the small details: the right text at the right place and also some footage of the dinner service would’ve been nice! Keep up the work but don’t forget: it’s always a huge privilege to fly business class.
