I just saw the film about a Ghananian Jewish community (Doing Jewish), who have been mentored by this Uganda community. While seeing people who don;t look like us, and are different from us in many ways, when I heard the prayers the imediate emotional response was "There's our people!!"

Thank you, Rabbi Gershom! Until this morning, I had no idea there was a Jewish community in Uganda. Your story was so beautiful it moved me to tears. My family escaped Russia in 1905 to a better life in America that was more tolerant of the Jewish people. Shabbat Shalom!

I have just returned from Nabagoye and I am pleased to announce that with help from my mother, Yvette Abramowitz, Rabbi Gershom Sizomu, Dr. Baniru Masaba, director of the Tobin Health Center, Be'chol Lashon and the entire Abayudaya community, we have finally completed construction of the dental facility at Tobin in honor of my late father,Burton Abramowitz,z''l. This facility is now equipped with the latest and most modern dental equipment available. We have even purchased an intraoral camera and portable digitlal x-ray unit which can be used in the clinic and additionally with our complete mobile dental delivery system at the Hadassah Primary School.This is the only x-ray of its kind in eastern Uganda and the only functioning x-ray in the town of Mbale. The two weeks I spent with the community on my most recent visit, treating the children at Hadassah and teaching and learning in the Rabbi's yeshiva, was perhaps the most rewarding experience of my life.These are children who have never had any prior dental treatment. The difference in quality of life in terms of health care for the Abayudaya will be immeasurably improved. With additional thanks to my two exceptional on site dental assistants, Suzy and Samson, this process has now begun. I urge all to make the trek and spend time in beautiful Nabagoye with the most wonderful people you will ever meet. If Rabbi Gershom had a pulpit in the U.S., a synagogue could not be built large enough to house all the Jews who would literally be breaking down the walls to enter every Shabbat. The opportunity is here for you to make a difference with your Jewish brothers and sisters in Uganda.

I visited the Abayudaya in Nabugoya just three weeks ago. This film is a beautiful reminder of that wonderful, welcoming community and is very informative at the same time. Thank you for producing this excellent little video.
