    Great job on the details, this reminds me of the late 80s to early 90s and Nordstrom sold menswear that epitomized these looks. I wore braces…(they are not called suspenders- those are for socks)…to work nearly every day prior to casual Fridays being popularized. It was a fun time to be a young working professional. Fine dressing is timeless. These looks still have style imo. Thanks for posting this as you did a great job here and is a perfect style guide reference.

    I swear when I was young at 2012 I was looking at all the adults wearing leather jackets, undershirt and blue jeans I was like who are they, but than I saw a glimpse of the 1920 - 70s clothing really caught my attention, to me looking at men with business suits and etc really showed masculinity. I started making more researches on suits and I started looking for suits myself, as soon as I got my first 3 piece 4 button suit I looked 10x better than wearing street wears. For anyone who is afraid of wearing suits, please dont be afraid just because a new era of clothing comes in doesnt mean the suits should die out, maybe people will look at you weird but in reality some people actually do like suits, one time I was walking past a group of men who looked in their 50 and 60s looked at me and nodded their head as a respect. I believe that suits should come back into fashion, instead of it just being formal it should be a casual occasional style, I dont know who said "You should only wear suits during job interviews" but you can literally wear it anywhere! Please just because you see citizens around the street wearing Tech Fleece, Trapstars and etc doesnt mean you should start wearing it, You can still look better just by dressing the part!

    One of the points that should be emphasised is that conservative yuppies all wore the same clothes -- often exactly the same garments. Pastels were big So same shirt ; same jeans etc even identical acccessories. Totally lacking in originality. This was because there was far FAR less choice than today. Far fewer brands with MUCH less choice. Today there is everything online fadhion -- from vintage; to modern looks ; from monotone to bizzare & very colourful. EVERYTHING is available now fairly cheaply with resellers . Armani and RL& Lacoste had total domination in menswear was unparrelled. Micro brands were totally non existant back in start of the Yuppie era being around year 1985. Young hip People wanted to confirm too ; as it openly showed their social status as these high end brands ( Italian ) were hideously crazy EXPENSIVE. Any dress shirt was top dollar as websites did not exist. You went to the actual store and it was a BOUTIQUE store ! These small fancy boutique shops charged hell of a lot for anything imported. The movie mimics the trends pretty well in fact & Batemans look was really spot on for someone near the top the heap in New York Manhattan's CBD at the time the movie is set being around 1987 / 88. Today we wear anything and everything and I think socio -- economic status cannot be ascetained so easily from clothing generally. Ties were a also bit duller & thinner than in the movie as it has a more slight mid - 90s edge to some of the looks. But it gave the movie a more modern feel -- as for example his Apartment kitchen all clad in stainless steel you will notice -- not a fashion trend really until the mid to late- 90s era. You never saw that trend in the mid 80s period. Great book as recall ( although a bit confronting in parts !! ); Bale made a great Patrick Bateman, which was a VERY difficult complex character to successfully convey on film.

    The New Powersuit didn't catch on earlier this current century because women have taken over a lot of the management type roles businessmen used to own. Now it's more appropriate for men to wear toned down notch lapels for fear of displaying excessive authority, which they don't have and that elicit accusations of pretentiousness. These are less certain times we live in, both economically and culturally, so appearing overconfident by wearing a power suit doesn't cut it, unfortunately. Agree?

    • @jonathansantos-bn1vw
      @jonathansantos-bn1vw 9 месяцев назад

      then there are men like me, we wear that power suit with all confidence with no care who is intimidated by it, thats the point of the power suit no? even if we not in a position of power, nobody dresses like this anymore and people automatically assume power and statues from you and treat you like such. men have to bring back power suits, forget the softies and women that dont like it, games the game.

    The Power Suit / Wall Street Style is the only post-1960s style I can get behind and I love it. My roots are still within the early half of the twentieth century, but I love the 1980s style nonetheless and the Wall Street style is my go-to for most workdays. Black chalk stripe suit, Winchester shirt, red necktie, suspenders and all.

    I still wear suits quite often - never in my life have I felt bad whenever I wore them. If the material is good, the fit is great, you will feel like you can take over the world.
