Garlits my hero!! Best drag racer alive😁😁
Saw this Beast run at Motor City Dragway in Mount Clemens, MI back in '66.
Thanks man! I've reached out.
I saw The Wagon Master at Niagara Drag Strip around 1970 but it didn’t make any runs.
Great video! How do i contact you.
rennonteng12@gmail.com
He forget to mention the car was used in one of the Beach movies driven by a gorilla.
Serop is my grandfather. My significant other and i just brought his great grandson into this world two days ago.
Closest I got was a 1977 hot wheel.
hahaha!
I pushed that car around a shop and it weighed a ton ..took a bunch of us to move it and the steering was very narrow
Currently upgrading my A100 pickup, from the stock slant six, to a strong 360 magnum crate motor .... the color scheme? RW&B. what else?
I never saw it race, but had a scale model in 1963. Was a real looker!
Those Buick Wildcat Engines were great, I had a 1966 Buick 225, with the 445 Wildcat Motor. 👊😎subbed.🇺🇸

Good Video & Tribute To An Underrated Champion Of Drag Racing! Thank You. (Like #137)
When I was a kid I had a poster of the EMPI Inch Pincher ( Supercharged VW Beetle) Just beating out Ivo's four engined rail at the line.
I saw Tommy Ivo, and his four engine car at Ontario motor speedway back in 1978 world finals. What a crowd pleaser.
I'm pretty sure I saw this car at Lyons drag strip back then.
I saw him and that car at a car show in Tyler Texas at Harvey Hall when I was in Jr. High School aprox 1982.
Ply Mouth ? 🫦
Great story
Wow, i literally grew up at Lion's Drag Strip and saw the little red wagon go down the 1/4 mile on 2 wheels. Was big for the times. We were there with the Butters/Jerard aa/fd.. i miss those days.😊
I had the model
Time stamp 2:40-2:50 Never knew the winter nationals were held in Fontana, I know the first one was held in FL. in 1960 and the 2nd one in Pomona in 1961, and I thought it never changed venues since. Time stamp 0:49-0:52 Isn't that a Army patch on his left arm , and I'm not sure if the US Marines ever wore berets.
Just like the "Hemi Under Glass" Barracuda. There were several grand standers that did bumper runs until they became unsafe and were dangerous.
The 60's were great.
little red wagon lived across the street from me! st.pete fla😮
The first two LRWs were based on the the factory unibody with a tubular rollbar and modified rear suspension. After the wreck in 1975 the truck was rebuilt with a full tube chassis that placed the driver in the center of the truck. Chuck Swift's "High And Mighty" A-100 was a copy of the original. I've gone for a 1/4 mile long wheelstand in it as a passenger. No passenger seat, so I was sitting on a milk crate and holding on for dear life. Still one of my craziest stunts.
I saw this car at an air show at Johnsville Naval Airbase in the sixties when I was a kid.
his brother lives in my hometown now
this is my great uncle
Wow!
Seen the LRW I think in the late 90s in Chandler Indiana if not it was someone with the same setup 👍
This and the jolly rancher stage coach was my favorite
I was told by a friend John Farley that he drag raced Don on the street Don had a flathead ford and later put that engine in his first rail job. Don't know it that's correct or not my memory not that good. Wonder if Don remembers the good Ole daz.
Long live the king! The biggest name in drag racing when I was a kid!😊
How many out there had a Revelle model kit or Hot Wheels of the Little Red Wagon?
I seen this Little Red Wagon at the Harrisburg IL Drag strip . It's a little 1.8 mile but that truck would go from one end to the other in a wheel stand .
I was at the Mecum auction in Kissimmee a couple years ago when one of the "Little Red Wagons" was being sold. Side note. talked to Bob Riggle "Hemi under Glass" and he was talking about how driving one of these wheel standers had gotten so much more manageable with the rear tire steering. For him, shifting a 4sp and not knowing where you are, trying to gauge off the other car, well there was a lot going on.
Memories are so bitchin.
This thing made dozens of appearances at US30 Dragstrip in the ‘60s.
I heard that he showed up at Lyons drag strip for the first test of his rear engine design, They didn't realize who it was and were going to turn him away, not with that stupid looking car, until he stepped out of the car. Then they said OH, Mr. Garlits, of course come on in. (conversations probably not actual but you get the idea)
Don was and always will be "The King".
Saw The Little Red Wagon race at Great Lakes Drag Strip in Wisconsin. He was pretty much a regular there along with Don Prudhomme and Don Garlitz. Always had pit passes and it was so cool watching the team tearing apart engines so quickly
Don Garlits rear engine dragster first ran in 1971. He won top fuel at the Winter National in Pomona Cal. I was there. The car was developed because he lost half of his right food in a clutch/Garlitsdrive transmission explosion at Lyons drag strip in 1970. During his recovery his thoughts were to develop a safer dragster. After working out some steering issues he got the new rear engine car to work. Most racers at Pomona poo poo'd the new design but Garlits went through eliminations and took top fuel. The rest is history. The only blemish on the victory was that Kenny Stafford could not make the final run because of engine failure. Even at that Don gave it a full throttle pass for the crowd. Another note of interest is that tragicalley Sneaky Pete Robinson was killed when he lost down force on the front of his cammer Ford dragster. Right at the traps his car lifted slightly and veered to the right and hit the guard rail. A real tragedy.
And don't forget we have Don and Connie to Thank for signing Shirley's Top Fuel License ! ☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️ Rrrrrrrrrrrrr !! R !
I love watching neophytes startled looks when a top fueler launches!
I saw the little red wagon many different times at New England dragway Awesome to watch!!!
I saw the little red wagon many different times at New England dragway Awesome to watch!!!
This car was popular in the magazines and also as a scale model. I remember it well
I guess Don Garlits never heard of the Colman Brothers rear engine Dragsters!
