Too bad Chewbacca didn't have a better agent. I bet if he'd learned to speak English he would have had quite the the Hollywood career.

Ugh, Star Wars sucks. I was 9 when it came out. Never liked it. Jaws was and remains so much better, IMO.

Well, Hollywood didn’t forget about serious pictures. They’ve kind of forgotten about escapist fun, though.

I was 12 when I saw Star Wars with my dad on August 12, 1977. I will never forget that day - my dad didn’t like sci-fi but he knew how much I wanted to see this movie so he took me.

*They didn't catch this either I guess...* at 1:24 Luke is going down a ladder... (in the movie, Han climbed up a ladder) Anyways at 2:47 Luke looks at Han exclaiming "I got him" however he is looking to his side... not up where he should be looking.... the only explanation is the ship happened to be sideways at that point, but that is unknown.

Never got why this movie became such a phenomenon; the soundtrack is about the only thing I like about it. It was fun to see such an old episode of Siskel and Ebert; I grew up watching their (often opposing) film reviews.

Amazing under-expected movie. I had a similar feeling before watching From Here To Eternity. Wasn't interested in a romantic movie with Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr canoodling on the beach but you give in and are thankful you didn't hold firm to stupid assumptions. FHTE is gritty and brutal and heartbreaking like SNF.

To appreciate what a game-breaker Star wars really was you should watch Logan's run it came out just the year before and while it did not win an Oscar for its special effects they were highly praised. It's not a bad movie however next to Star wars its effects are laughable

I believe that the Aisle and Ebert review of Star Wars WHEN THE FILM WAS RELEASED (not this re-review) had Ebert trashing the film. The guy was a clown without makeup. The original Star Wars, is by the way, the only movie of that series that I really enjoyed. The others were poorly written and cashing in.

Even just the way the gunner seats move seemed authentic and sensible. Such great escapism, there's a reason this franchise is still relevant today (though with varying success capturing the magic of the original).
