What GOOD Political Satire Looks Like
Directed by Jason Reitman ("Juno", "Ghostbusters Afterlife") and based on a novel by Christopher Buckley, "Thank You for Smoking" is a masterclass on how to do political satire the right way. Let's explore why.

Just ONE "Wagon's East" clip?! Thank you for sharing
"We need to get these people to a hospital." "A hospital? What is it?" "Its a big building with patients in it, but thats not important right now"
The wave at the end finished me off 🥹 Nearly 31 years since we lost this great man x
🕺
I'm the locksmith and I'm ALOCKSMITH!
Buster Keaton : a gift from Heaven. The admiration is the same when discovering these scenes a century later. It can't be eroded.
😄😄😄👍👌👏👏👏💯✔️ I❤ Leslie Nelson ⚘️💞💞💞
Still missed and forever will be
In 2025, I miss John Candy. Anyone who remembering?
Ricardo Montablun was good as always in his role as the villain in Naked Gun. However Robert Goulays expressions to Leslie Neilson's odd remarks was awesome. "Falling in love is like drinking drano, sure it will clean you out, but it leaves you feeling hollow."

Thank you for recognizing Mel's brilliance, AND Hollywood's hypocrisy. Just sharing that opinion takes..."seeds"
Haha yeah Hollywood isn't exactly in a position to lecture anyone if we're being honest. Thanks for your comment and kind words.
I feel like Gibson, more than any other noteworthy filmmaker, is the hardest to separate the “art from the artist”, as some would say. I mean all the “issues” (arguably) with his films aren’t really issues with the film, but issues with Mel. So if you don’t agree with his takes (and most of the people who decide whether a film is or not don’t), it’s pretty hard to sit down and watch one of his movies, when they are so deeply baked into their very DNA. It also doesn’t help that Gibson doesn’t exactly react the most tamely when faced with such criticism. But to be completely honest with you, I think the latter will go away in a few decades, as the awareness of Gibson’s work inevitably retains better then the cloud of real-life antics around them, (as so frequently happens through the process of society forgetting and rediscovering things), and perhaps our collective view on his body of work will change.
I couldn't agree more. I'm convinced over time his films are going to be rediscovered for what they are rather than for who he is.
One of the best Actor/Directors (currently working as both at the same time) ever. Underrated actor too, I’ve noticed he is amazing at conveying that intensity when it comes to sudden heartbreak
He's got an incredible charisma on screen for sure. There aren't many like him.
I have always felt that Mel Gibson was and is one of the great directors of our life time. You are not only right on target with your comments on Mel Gibson but you did it with passion.
Thank you very much for your kind words! Happy to see I'm not the only one feeling this way about Gibson.
He's a better director than an actor and a person
I agree that he's a better director than actor. I think his range is pretty limited, though he's very good at certain kinds of roles.
Hahahahaha.....oh you were serious
Well, if that made you laugh, that's always a positive. 😉 Thanks for watching!
He is really good
He is! Thanks for watching and commenting :)
@ of course!
The brilliant Mr. Keaton sometimes reminds me of my past lives, hehehe... Thanks for the lovely compilation
You're welcome!
Mel Gibson for president 2028!
A goat 🐐🌬️👌😂😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🙏🤩🙏
John Candy was a good man. Not only did he help Neal Page get home in time to spend Thanksgiving with his family, he also helped Mrs. McCallister get home in time to spend Christmas with her son.
7:05 left out the funniest part about the rat gnawing her mole off 😂
Unfortunately YT is pretty strict on copyright and the bit was already too long.
What a RIDE! François! I have seen soo many of these - I see the clip - I Know the movie. What a TRIP!
Glad you enjoyed it! New videos coming soon, so stay tuned. :)
Missed this over the season, but glad I'm seeing it now. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! I might try and make more like this in the near future.
Sad that he is the least known of the three most successful silent comic stars. Two factors: he owned the rights to most of his films and kept most of them off screen until a highlight reel was released in the early 1960's. Meanwhile Chaplin and Keaton's silent films were available. Bigger reason: politics. Chaplin was a self-styled if unconvincing Leftie. Keaton mostly non-political and Lloyd a conservative, and active in 1940's and 50's Republican politics. The literati and the Left hated him then and still now so he got no love or recognition on campus film studies or classes. Chaplin of course got adoration then and still in academia.
But the most successful thing about his marriage is that Harold never divorced his first wife, Mildred. This makes me think that he is a public figure truly worthy of admiration.
1888- ROUNDHAY Garden Scene 1975-Jaws 2002- hero
Best quotes for me; Nice beaver and Nothing to See Here.
IMO John was the king of the 80’s comedies
This is a stop-motion animation supervised by the French animation master Georges Méliès. It was first released in 1902.
Not just funny actor, absolutely great actor that can do serious scenes also…
Check out our film "paradox aftermath" 41mins in "desperate film makers" youtube channel we tried it with minimal budget
What are the lesser known performances of John Candy please? Some of these lines & deliveries are perfect. Who was in his circle? Not just performers, but writers & directors too
It was the Best. Miss him💔🙏❣️
Sometimes I forget how much I love him. One of the greats ❤

Love John Candy, so talented, his performance in Planes Trains and Automobiles is my favorite.
Same!
"By the way, I faked every orgasm" Jajajaja
Cuban? No Dutch Irish, my father was from Wales ❤
Leslie Neilson was an amazing actor and absolutely hilarious. I don't know how he kept a straight face. Absolutely love him.
the heroine also has done a splendid job. All actors are good
❤❤❤
I love the scene from the first movie where after giving a speech he goes to the mens room. He didn't know he left his microphone on. Was so funny,
who in their right mind swaps the original audio with some random music... unwatchable
"Funny, she doesn't look druish" - there's another few hours of great lines!
The one and only! John Candy, you are truly missed, sir.
He really is!
Life is like a mime. Only by facing difficulties can you be like Harold and have a successful path.
So Lame you didn't show him in the Movie' Stripes'. Let me guess you thought it was offensive. You either loved him or you didn't.
This deserv a follow up. Both brutal and beautiful at the same time.
Thank you! Appreciate it. I'd love to make a longer version one day.
