Note From Dad #161: How Do I Celebrate My Daughter's 6th Birthday?
Hi Avery,
I want to talk to you about your 6th birthday.
You turn 6 today and we celebrate the day you came into our lives. I hope you enjoy your gifts and feel loved on your special day.
For me, when I look back on these 6 years, I wish I could have done things differently. I wish I could go back to when you were a newborn baby. I would hold you more, be more calm, kind, and patient. I would worry less and laugh more. I would hug more and criticize less.
Having you has shown me how much work I have to do on myself and how much I still have to learn. I commit to doing better and doing my best to learn from my mistakes. Thank you for being you and for the love you show me. Thank you for spendi...

Hi Avery! I want to talk to you about Grandpa’s 75th birthday. Grandpa turns 75 today. I have so many memories of him and, like Grandma, his “fingerprints” are all over me. Grandpa has always been very organized and good with numbers. His Dad jokes, tickling me from the driver’s seat while driving and setting a good example for Ava and I are things which have left the biggest impressions on me....

She was someone I remember from my earliest days growing up in Michi...
Note from Dad #157 : Holding Doors

Hi Avery! I want to talk to you about holding doors. In Michigan, I saw an elderly couple walking towards the exit of McDonald's where we had stopped. They were both walking a little slowly. I saw they were slowly heading for the door so I went over and held it open for them. The man looked me in my eyes and thanked me. It cost me nothing to do that. When we do polite and helpful things, it fee...

You are with yourself for the rest of your life and the choices you make will be with you for your entire life. You have to earn the right to have a good s...

Hi Avery, I want to talk to you about the good old days. When I came home, I got to give you a kiss. We sat down for dinner, told knock knock jokes, and looked at some pictures on my phone. Then, we went outside to play. You ate a popsicle and we rode around on Whitey, scooters, and your bike. Finally, Mom called us in. These are the good old days. As we both get older, we will both look back o...

Note from Dad #153 : Giving CPR To A Deal

Hi Avery! I want to talk to you about giving CPR to a deal. CPR stands for cardio pulmonary resuscitation. You give CPR to someone when they are unresponsive and they might die. You breathe air into their mouth and do chest compressions so their heart will pump blood. CPR can, and often does, save a person’s life. In my business, I recently had a deal which had died. Someone was going to buy fr...

Hi Avery, I want to talk to you about moving the decimal point over. When I was in sixth grade, we had to learn about decimals. When multiplying by 10 and dividing by 10 you can simply move the decimal to get the answer. I was having a hard time. My Dad took a lot of effort to try and teach it to me but I still could not understand it. The next day, he showed me a big card he had written out sh...

My Mom wanted me to succeed so much, she started putting sug...
Note from Dad #148 : The Weights Don't Get Lighter, You Get Stronger

Hi Avery! I want to talk to you about getting stronger. When I go to the gym and ride the fan bike or lift weights, my muscles get tired and sore. As a result of tiring my muscles out, they grow back slightly stronger. The stress of exercising makes our muscles grow and gives us strength. If I work out enough, I will get much stronger and more capable. Then, the next time I work out, the same w...
