I stumbled on your channel recently and I’ve been really enjoying your videos and the mindset you’re sharing in them. I like and appreciate a lot how supportive and understanding you’re of the difficulties and challenges which come with the language learning. I also enjoy the practical tips that you share, but your perspective is something that really stands out to me and that I relate to a lot. Thank you so much for your time, effort and wisdom that you share with us! Can’t wait to get my next paycheck to donate some money to you ^_^ Take care ❤

But thanks to your recommendation I'll try that reactor. I'm a heavy reader and find it so easy just to read and soak up vocabs. I just translate a graded book in Google and enjoy it.

    Honestly, the best way to handle those 'snaky natives' is to simply ignore them. For us as language learners it's sometimes difficult to see that these people have no knowledge about what it takes to learn a language and about the variety in their own language. Most people, not even natives, don't speak the standard variety of a language. There are almost always certain differences in how they speak which is a result of many factors such as socio-economic class, register, age and geographical location. Learning a language 'properly' is something that means something different to different natives without them even realising it. In fact, I bet that most people saying these kinds of things to you probably don't speak the local standard anyway. Just look at the UK, how many people actually speak RP or modern RP? It's definitely not the majority yet it's the standard pronunciation that we as language learners focus on. Also, since we are using different speakers from different areas of the country of our target language to learn pronunciation we will eventually pick up on things that are not part of the standard (or what snaky natives would call 'proper English'). Learning these people's idealised version of their own language is impossible because they themselves have no idea what it is supposed to sound like. Btw, this does not only affect pronunciation but also grammar, see for example double negation or habitual-be in AAVE.

  • @tryh4rd999

    I'm not a native English speaker but from my point of view, your English is almost perfect. I've read some where about some cognitive factors and our learning speed and precision as we age and from what i saw, the best age to learn new languages and be perfect with no accent, is around 8 years old 😒 (not sure if this have strong evidence, but did make sense when i read at the time) . Looks like later in life we will probably always have something that will show were not a native speaker (of course, there must exceptional talents out there, the research is for general pattern for most people). Going for perfection may be good, but expecting it and getting frustrated when this perfection not comes, is not good. Well, about your way to solve these self doubts, i knew it, you looks like exactly as i described in some other comment around here ;) You kept calm and thought: 19:41 "and i was like...i know why I'm doing this..." and then confidence just come back, because you know what, why and how you doing what you doing. Just like i thought, you really seems to be confident and calm as a standard, like you know what you doing, at least most of the time (even if you disagree, you transmit these vibes). The entire content of your videos is inspiring, not just because of the language aspect, but also due to these little details and your overall style. That's really cool-keep going!

    I think it would be really cool to see you speaking Japanese, Chinese, or Russian since they are famously difficult languages. Could you choose one of the three to learn next? Actually, it would be great if you documented your progress in a new language from the very beginning, showing us your approach, learning process, daily practices, etc., for three months. This way, we could see what’s possible and how far you can progress in one of these languages from scratch. You seem really smart-high IQ-so it would be amazing to see how much you can achieve in a challenge like this. I’m sure your channel would blow up after this! i want to see your confidence/cool vibes every day, I'm already missing.

    Hola! Tengo curiosidad por saber cuál es el idioma nativo de tus padres, ya que considero que las personas que en casa hablan dos idiomas tienen más fácilidad para hablar un tercero o cuarto. Mi sobrino habla español y catalán. Tiene un buen nivel de inglés incluso mejor que el mío que , por cierto, llevo estudiando décadas. ¿Qué opinas? Gracias.

    • @crissVinn
      @crissVinn 5 дней назад

      hola! mi padre es húngaro y mi madre rumana. crecí hablando tanto rumano como español, pero el húngaro nunca lo llegamos a hablar en casa. creo que la facilidad de aprender un tercer idioma depende de la cercanía que tenga ese idioma con los ya aprendidos. en mi caso aprender francés fue más fácil gracias a que tanto el español como el rumano son lenguas latinas, pero con el húngaro (idioma lejano) fue bastante díficil. después, también depende de las inclinaciones personales de cada uno. se puede haber crecido en un ambiente trilingüe, pero sin esfuerzo y dedicación no se aprende fácilmente un cuarto. espero que te haya servido. un saludo!! :)

    Hi I recently came across your channel and I find your willingness to genuinely help others by sharing your own journey of self-sufficiency in learning to be very inspiring. You've done very excellently for yourself so I don't think you will need this but I'll share it anyway. I've also taught myself the complexity of English and one thing I did (and this is probably going to sound like a dweeb-like thing to do) was read US supreme court decisions. They are not only valuable in expanding your technical expertise of the language but also challenge your method of forming logic. The use of language in the field of law in general I've found to be an insightful look into how much influence language has on how we organize society itself. In this regard a youtube channel I've found interesting is Strict scrutiny. And also Elizabeth Prelogar's way of forming arguments. Additionally, two channels unrelated to law but focused on learning you might enjoy are Veritasium and Tibees. Hope you find these suggestions interesting. Wish you the best in your journey of excelling at self-motivated learning!

    I'd rather stick to my 'abrupt' model of consistency. One day 30 mins, another 15, third 1 hour. Because effective learning depends on a variety of factors like: how well you slept, how well you fed your body, was your work day intense and your relations with others non stressful. Sometimes 'I don't feel like it' can give you a great boost the nest day. Once again, don't mold yourself to a system, mold a system to you.

I read too but really less then listerning or watching something and in the order to Output, I think , writing is my favorite I see it as a way to think in language at the same time spelling is not my strong skill so, I use time to time Google Translate to speak my sentences or some thoughts and it transcribe it for me and then I do my correction I use head righting notes too so, I combine a few methods on a daily basis it's really helpful and I can share my thoughts on social media like I do it now and can get some feedback and exchange an experience. it's really inspiring and make me more confident at using the language

      hey thanks for the comment, so kind of you! i am a calm person but i wouldn't say "i know exactly what i'm doing", quite the opposite, actually. i've realised life for me is about not knowing what im doing and just doing it anyway. i didn't really know i looked confident, but i guess it comes from focusing on my message more than "what others might think". learning daily about myself (my judgments, my vision, my bodily sensations...) also helps with the process. i would really recommend journaling and being aware of your social environment (it's what's worked best for me). hope it helps!
