Not taking a shot at degree holders at all, I'm just saying, push comes to shove, that's a piece of paper. Just be careful about putting it in a plaque and setting it on a pedestal while riding a high horse. Long fall to the mud from there. 😉

Right about wasting $150,000 on an overpriced and overrated education. Just because someone is College educated doesn't necessarily mean they're smarter than someone who didn't go to College. You'd be surprised (and shocked) to find out how many non College educated people are smarter than College educated.

The part where he is studying while taking his lunch in the mine is my favorite scene of all. Today we may enjoy the view as we stand on the shoulders of giants, but it was certainly a chore climbing up their pants.

This movie had a profound effect on my while in high school, particularly this scene. It made me want to specialize in statistics and use numbers to solve complex problems. Nearly 10 years later I have a degree in probability and statistics and work as a statistical analyst doing similar work in health care, and I love every minute of it. Thank you for uploading this clip, I hope it has the same effect on young people as it did on me.

This is why I find it annoying when people who have went to school and got a degree think they’re are smarter than somebody who decided to work a trade. They think they are smart but they are really just good at remembering some knowledge from a lecture by a professor that hasn’t even had any success in the profession he’s being paid to teach

Sadly it's actually better to go to a trade school than get a college degree. Two of my closest freinds went to Notre dame & brown ( ivy league ) they studied pre med. They worked their asses off their whole lives, their parents spent a fortune on private schools even though they came from upper class wealthy towns where the high schools were excellent . Just saying they went to a public school in bronxville the wealthiest town in america. The smallest home costs a million bucks & the taxes are 30 grand & up depending on size so saying they went to bronxville hs at least if ur from the nyc & bordering areas would be just as impressed as saying they went to the high school private school we went to. Being from Yonkers which is about 80% affluent but 20% of it had some scary high crime rated parts. The stupid mayor & superintendent thought in the 70s that " bussing " would solve the problems of the 20% ( dmx & mary j blige grew up in the rough part & they have talked about it being very rough ) so what they did was bus the kids from the affluent areas to the poor area schools thinking if the kids from the rough neighborhoods would fair better in the better areas schools bc the taxes were so high those schools would have excellent resources & better teachers , meanwhile it just threw the kids from the good areas under that bus & the kids from the bad areas still went home to the same homes & same neighborhoods so it changed nothing for the better. In fact it destroyed the Yonkers public school system & killed any sense of community bc kids had to sit on a long bus ride to schools not in their neighborhoods. So guess what happened in the 80s ? All the kids from the affluent or middle class communities put their kids in private schools which their used to be many so the tuition was not that bad as their was a lot of competition. So my parents had no choice but to send us to private school & in hs I felt in a way I missed out on a true american hs experience. The private hs were all boys or all girls. So meeting a boyfriend or girlfriend was more difficult & we didnt have things like homecoming. Also bc their were only about 5 private hs in the entire county which was huge everyone came from a different town . So it was hard to have a social life with classmates without a car. Anyway I'm still grateful bc I would not have fared well in public school in my city. I met many girls who did transfer to my school bc they got their butts beat regularly. So my point is my 2 freinds parents were shelling our a fortune in tax money plus paying for private school. Yonkers taxes were a lot lower. I still felt bad for my parents paying taxes that went to public schools that my bro & I did not even attend, but that was my patents choice. So my point is after all the money spent on k through 12 they spent a fortune on their colleges. So all that work & money would up being in a sense useless bc they wanted to be doctors. They both applied each to 50 medical schools ( the application fees alone cost thousands. They got rejected from every medical school they applied to. So after trying again with re taking the MCats & taking even more courses even though they graduated I guess to show the med schools better grades they were rejected again. So one wound up a hostess at a restaurant the other a full time nanny. So their educations got them jobs that a hs drop out could get. They both had almost perfect g.p.a 's so I assume they did not perform that well on the mcats. Their great degrees got them nowhere. Meanwhile many people I know who went to far less superior colleges or did not get a degree are making great money. Another girl I know went to ivy league columbia. This girl was very very bright & she decided to become a teacher. If ur gonna go to an ivy league school I think picking teaching elementary school was a waste of her parents money. Teaching is a noble profession dont get me wrong but many teachers I know went to mediocre colleges & got the same teaching job as the ivy league girl. Also I can't tell u how many people I know went to really expensive colleges & did not even doing a career in their college major. So with so many going to college theirs not enough good jobs to go around for all the college graduates. The most successful people I know instead of going to college took up a trade as an electrician, plumber or contractor. I know one guy who went to a community college & went one year to a great school for communications that got him a very good job in the field bc he went to that school for one year bc he met a bunch of people who actually did graduate from that same expensive school &made great connections with people who produce movies , direct movies & write screenplays who paid a fortune for their 4 year degree have the same jobs as he does only going for one year. Honestly I wish I instead of going to an expensive college for 4 years I went to a community college for my associates degree than finished off at a state school. If I had done that my student loans would not be the albatross it is around my neck. I did not even know that my parents took on 60% of the loans & I was on the hook for 40 % so I wish I knew then what I know now I would def have went to a community college & state school that costed less than my high school tuition. My loans are not even as bad as the kids I knew that went to super expensive colleges owing between 120 to 200 grand in college debt. I'll probably still be paying these loans when my 10 & 7 year old set college aged. So I really wish as a 17 year old my patents told me I would be responsible for almost half my loans. When i figured that out in my sophomore year i took summer courses at the community college so it saved me my final year of tuition. I did go to work for a couple years without my degree but decided to finish my last 5 classes bc of the principle. It would have killed me to have all the debt withoutthaving a degree so I forced myself to finish so I would at least have a degree . I never understood the people who dropped out. Its insanity imo to have all that debt & no diploma to make it all at least count for my diploma that in my career the degree hanging on my parents wall has not been worth the paper it is printed on. Finally an 18 or 19 year old who has to pick a major may feel completely different about the major & career as we mature. Some people I know had no clue at such a young age what they wanted to do as a career so they picked liberal arts as a major. My cousin has the 120 credits & no degree bc he was an athlete & he just took tons of electives & his college actually had gym classes that were available bc he needed to take a minimum amt of credits to stay eligible.

The guy told Will he’d be serving his kids fries at a drive thru, all the while claiming he’ll get a degree. Ironically, two decades from now, it will be a lie. The person serving French fries will be the guy with a degree, seeing as how College keeps failing us in the long run.
